Sartre Meets Afghanistan: Obama's "No Exit" Strategy

Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 12:05:29 in World

“As always, an outstanding piece.
Once again we have an adminstration that plays around with
words - and their unique meaning for the words they craft.
And once again we have an adminstration that wants to
please everyone, and in the process loses all sides.
Every time I hear someone from this adminstration
talking about building schools in Afghanistan, I want to
scream. For decades, schools in the country have been
crumbling. The drop-out rate is soaring. Yet, we are
NOT building schools here - we are building them
in Afghanistan - where they get blown up!
Yet, there is no real outrage in this country,
there is just the silent sound of indifference.
How many more troops will die in the hell hole
of Afghanistan? How many more billions will
be thrown into this country of war lords and
tribal chiefs? Sadly, we have seen this picture
before and we know how it will end.”

Thankful, Well Not So Very Much

Commented Nov 27, 2009 at 13:47:29 in Politics

“You are not alone...
Obama is a huge disappointment, and as Democrats we are used to
being disappointed. The sad thing, is we resign ourselves to our
disappointment and don't demand more.
Yes, he has a ton on his plate, however, that does not excuse him
from his stunning lack of leadership. He has shown ZERO leadership,
and ZERO fight. He now will take anything he can get, as long as it
has the word, "reform" on it. When in reality, there is NO real reform
and no change. He has broken promise after promise, and has
given the shaft to Progressives, while being on his knees to the
Republicans. So once again, we have been duped by promises
not kept and leadership not delivered.”

“Arianna, I could not agree with you more. I keep wondering why does the MSM give this carny
barker any ink, or air time in the MSM? A better use of that ink and air time would be to look at
the demographic that believes and embraces this clown. Yet, to totally ignore him, is also
dangerous, the hate, lies and very transparent racism he peddles with ease, is to say the least,
very troubling. And if his fire laden rhetoric leads to violence, he should and must be held
responsible. And yes, his advertisers should be contacted, how in good conscience can they
spend their ad dollars with this guy? Buying time on his shows, clearly condones what he
stands for - and perhaps even embraces what he stands for. And those advertisers should
be boycotted - NOW.”

A Wake Up Call on Jobs

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 16:34:39 in Politics

“This is such an obvious PR event from Obama. Where are all those "high paying Green
Jobs" he promised? Where are all the innovators - thinkers and people with fresh new
ideas that will result in new industries? Other countries are way way ahead of the United
States in developing new energy resources, new green technologies. We are falling
further and further behind. Innovation is the key - so where are the innovators?”

No, Rachel, No! This "Health Reform" Could Lose the Middle Class for Dems

Commented Nov 14, 2009 at 23:26:26 in Politics

“This bill is an insult to every thinking person in this country. Obama caved before any debate
began, when Single Payer was taken off the table. He was on his knees to the Republicans
from day one. The discussions on healthcare reform were never framed the way, they should have
been. Questions that should have been asked include the following:
How can the richest country on the planet NOT provide healthcare to all the people?
How can the members of Congress, fight to stop people from getting healthcare - the
people who PAY for THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE?
Recently, on Larry King, Michael Moore said, "the American people are given so little."
How right he is. In Demark, there are NO medical bills paid for by the patient. No
hospital or Drs. bills. Countries all over the world, including some very poor ones,
provide free health insurance for ALL.
And this bill wants to FINE people for not buying health insurance, - that's ABSURD!
Billions are found over night for wars - literally over night. No outrage about costs,
not any at all.
And there is no real outrage from the Democrats - we are so used to being disappointed,
we just take it. Obama and the Democrats are losing - because they are seen as weak,
spine less. They have the House, the Senate and the White House
and they still act like the Republicans are in power and control. The Democrats will lose because
given how weak they are”

Is This as Good as It Gets From Obama?

Commented Nov 02, 2009 at 23:08:28 in Politics

“We Democrats are so used to being disappointed, europhia of Obama winning, soon turned
to indifference. He turned out to be a quick disappointment. From day one, he was on his
knees to the Republicans. We needed and many thought we were getting an FDR, or an LBJ,
instead we got Dukasis (sp) sans the helmet. Obama has shown no fight, no passion, and
we are all disappointed and resigned to still another weak Democrat. He has shafted the
Progressives, while kissing the backsides of Republicans. And for those who keep thinking,
and hoping that - this is some kind of clever strategy on his part - come on!
He took Single Payer off the table before the discussions even started. He didn't want a
Public Option - which is a joke anyway. He has the White House, the Senate and the
House and he can't get anything through. Perhaps we should not be suprised - he never
took a stand on anything while he was a United States Senator. And as a State Senator
he took the easy way out - voting "Present," and NOT taking a stand. That should have been
a giant CLUE to all of us. The Democrats are blowing it - and it will take decades for them
to ever have this much power again.”

A Look At Michael Jackson's New Poem 'Planet Earth'

Commented Nov 01, 2009 at 11:14:31 in Living

“I just returned from seeing the movie, "This Is It" - in the movie, we get to see not a tortured broken
human being, but rather a brilliant, energized, kind, generous spectacular talent. The poem may
be a bit hokey, but he wasn't. In the movie he is real, no diva, no ego maniac, just sheer brilliance
and talent shining from him. He dances better than the 20 year old dancers in the film. His voice
touches, resonates and connects. I left the film feeling sad, that he is no longer here. Sad that
he did not get to do these concerts - which would have been the biggest come-back in the history
of entertainment. And so sad that his life was filled with such sadness. In one of those rare
interviews he gave years ago, he talked about his beatings from his father. Since I experienced the
same thing, I could see his wounds, hear his pain, that was real and so was he. His plea for the
environment came from his heart and we have lost an extraordinary talent and a extraordinary man.”

House Health Care Bill: A Death Sentence For My Fellow Breast Cancer Survivors

House Health Care Bill: A Death Sentence For My Fellow Breast Cancer Survivors

Commented Oct 29, 2009 at 23:16:01 in Politics

“Hearing these heart wrenching stories about these brave courageous women, and
the double struggle they are facing - the illness and the fear of losing everything because
of these very expensive life saving drugs makes me both sad and very angry.
This is the richest country on the planet and we don't provide health care for the
people who live here. How can this country be so immoral - so corrupt?
Recently, I saw a television interview with a group of women from Denmark.
they were astounded that this country is engaged in a fight on healthcare,
and astounded that the United States does NOT provide totally free healthcare
for all. They talked about how ALL of their medical care is free, and how immoral
it would be if it were not. Billions are being spent in the hell hole of Afghanistan -
no one - no one even talks about the cost of this. And yet, there is no money for
healthcare in this country. Is it as simple as the politicans are owned by the
insurance and big pharma corporations? Is it really that simple?
Where is the outrage from the millions of people who have health insurance
got sick and lost everything?
Are Democrats so used to being disappointed, we just resign ourselves to acute indifference?
Is it too late - to demand real reform - for the people you talked about in your piece and for the
millions of others who need help now? Aren't we”

Anybody else remember skids of money taken off planes that just vaporized in Iraq?????

But when it comes to domestic policy that benefits the people of this country, we have to be deficit neutral or else. We have to favor business interest and lobbyists, or else.

What kind of country does this to its citizenship?”

“The nation we need to rebuild is our nation. Every time I hear about building schools in Afghanistan,
I become livid. Schools in this country are crumbling, and they have been for decades. And for
decades teachers have been buying school supplies out of their own very small pay checks.
Yet nothing is being done about our crumbling schools, our increasingly high drop out rate for
kids. It is insane to be continuing this war in Afghanistan, a country still stuck in the Middle Ages,
and liking it that way. We saw those heart wrenching, moving images of President Obama,
standing while the coffins of 18 individuals returned home from Afghanistan. The lives of their
families forever shattered. And for what? For a country of war lords and tribal chiefs - what's
wrong with this picture? Bring the troops home, now, if this doesn't end now - more and more
will be returning to Dover in the dead of the night. We must stop trying to fix a very broken country,
and start to repair our country which is great need of repair on so many levels.”

“Bravo, Arianna, I happened to be watching the show, and I am fairly confident there was a loud
chorus who were shouting - THANK YOU Arianna. It is astounding that the cable media drops
everything and instantly goes to wall-to-wall coverage of non-events like this. The little boy was
found safe. EOS - End of story - and this DOES not belong on "The Ed Show" or any political show.
Valuable air time is lost each day to mindless stories. Where are the stories about people who
have insurance and when they got sick discovered the insurance companies would not cover
them and they have lost everything? Where are the stories about our crumbling schools in
America? Building schools in Afghanistan - and NOT in the United States. Global Warming,
is never discussed. Ed appeared testy as you questioned why this story on the kid in the balloon
was still being covered? It was great to see someone take this on - head-on.
Again, Bravo Arianna from millions of people who were asking the same question - as they
shouted at their television screens!”

Rethinking David Letterman: Exactly How Are We Supposed to Feel About All This?

Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 20:39:23 in Media

“Enough already. David Letterman was not married at the time of his liaisons. He is not an
elected official. He did not commit a crime. He went out with and had relationships with women
who worked for him. No woman ever complained about David, on the contrary, women have said,
it was the best place in the world to work. Done - over.
And as far as Dave not being able to tell jokes about straying LIAR politicans, why shouldn't
he make jokes about them? He did not do what they did. He also did NOT LIE about what
he did do. David Letterman is a great comic, we need him, we love him - he makes us laugh,

And I guess we should not at all be surprised, he never took a stand or a leadership
role when he was a United States Senator. As a State Senator he took the easy position
of "Present" so he did not have to cast any votes that would hurt him politically, down the

“Another brilliant commentary from you, Bill.
Why has this country become so indifferent?

Where is the outrage, why isn't there a march of millions on Washington
demanding health care reform?
Why aren't the millions of people who have no insurance demanding
healthcare?
Why aren't the millions of people who had health insurance, and when
they got sick, they lost everything because the insurance companies
would not cover them - why aren't they marching on Washington demanding
health care reform?
Why aren't the small business owners who had to let people go, because they
could no longer pay for healthcare - why aren't they marching on Washington?
And I suspect people don't know that any plan that will actually pass will not
go into effect for 4 years - just in time for the Republicans to kill it.
And there is no outrage - there is silence, and acute indifference.”

Doubledoot replied on Sep 25, 2009 at 16:21:52

“When Obama was campaigning he insinuated that he would fight for a Universal Health Care in which everyone is covered at a fraction of what it costs now to insure people. But that has changed : he now calls it "reform" and it amounts to simply adding another confusing insurance plan that you have to buy which will supposedly compete w/ the insurance co's that exist and cause them to become fair. Well that is not what the American people wanted. We don't want to have to worry about health care anymore and we don't want the companies we work for to have to sholder the burden of health care either : it costs us all too much $. We want to do away with the hated insurance co's while at the same time demand and have the same high quality health services that are alloted to congress. Anything less isn't enough to make me want to march on Washington no matter how much it needs to be done not for that but for a long list of other reasons as well.”
