“That's a fairly short sighted analysis on your part. The Sirius stock was not hurt by Stern's involvement with the company. First, the $100m/year figure is grossly inflated as the number reflects a huge stock grant. That's be fine, except it presumed the stock to be worth roughly $7.80/share. The result is that he's paid much less.

Second, he has helped Sirius as a company. Recall that before he signed up, Sirius had only 800,000 subscribers. They added several million within a few months of Stern's signing. You could chalk that up to a coincidence, but I'd find that hard to swallow considering that Sirius reports that 60% of their subscribers only listen to the 100/101 channels (Stern).

Third, Sirius' stock price was harmed by two things, none of which Stern had anything to do with: (1) Government holdup of the SIRI/XMSR merger was said to have cost the company several hundred million dollars. Even ignoring these direct costs, anti-trust regulations compelled Sirius to split years ago (and hence XM was created). This resulted in twice as many satellites (at $500m/each) for what is now the same service. (2) Debt leverage - the company is heavily leveraged due to the staggering start up costs associated with a company that has to operate from space. I would bet money that Sirius files Ch. 11 and emerges as a juggernaut. Let's not forget that they are the second largest subscriber based company behind Comcast.”
