Man, I read stuff like this piece and I can feel my IQ bleeding off.”

Three Myths About the Democratic Race

Commented Mar 24, 2008 at 14:43:38 in Politics

“My Dear NYPete:

I KNOW you have better chops than this. Next time, write something like this in your own voice and not in the voice of Penn, Wolfson and the others. I know from experience that you can do far better than this. This is a waste of your talents and time.

C'mon man, people are hungry for some real out here, not the same old same-old.

-T, who respects you enormously.”

Blue Dog Democrats and Republican Triangulation

Commented Mar 26, 2009 at 18:10:11 in Politics

“As The Good Dr. Black is wont to say, over and over again, so it sinks in: "More and better Democrats". You do that by primary challengers. Challengers who, even if they don't win, scare the beejeesus out of the winner and push them towards normative electorate realities.

We on the Democratic Party side of things need to challenge hackery wherever it sticks up its ugly head. Even in our own party.”

“Rep. Jones has truly become a gentleman of conscience and consistent moral compass, in the finest traditions of the old Republicans of the south and years gone by, from all over the nation.

I was raised by Republicans like that. My mother, from South Carolina, who was one of those Southern Republicans, said before her death "I would not vote for a Republican for dog catcher, these days".

I think that she would approve of Rep. Jones.

Note: I am a Democrat. Proudly Yellow Dog. That said, it would be wrong to not give Walter Jones the kudos he deserves.”
Sean Delonas: A Study In 'Hack'

Sean Delonas: A Study In 'Hack'

Commented Feb 19, 2009 at 18:08:37 in Politics

“Ok, straight up: I was one of the first people to buy a Sean Delonas print.

Sean was a kid who grew up in the same hometown as me. Shy, unassuming and very talented, I met him at a local bar and he had some of his work with him. His early stuff(He was real young at the time, and the drinking age in NJ at the time was 18) was clever, witty, biting, satirical and intelligent. He was just a nice kid with a lot of talent. I paid him $20.00 for the print. He could not believe I wanted it.

But that was then and this is now and what Sean has become is an embarassment to himself and a real source of agita to those who knew him when. Like back when he had style, talent, humor and imagination. Now, he is just a clown, recycling the worst possible stereotypes and thinking himself clever.

I don't know what they do to young, malleable minds at the NY Post, but it sure must be something right out of MKUltra. Or maybe they just remove everything but the brain stem.

Frankly, I don't know where that print is anymore, nor could I care.

Sean, you sold out in the basest, ugliest manner imaginable. Enjoy your image in the mirror. If even it can stand what you have become.”

The Times Gives Kristol the Pink Slip

Commented Jan 26, 2009 at 17:52:48 in Media

“You know what is shaking the faith of "conservatives"? In large part, it is the confrontation, the other day, where The President looked a blustering and posturing Sen. Kyl in the eye and uttered two simple words that ended the conversation:

"I won". Thus, end of story.

This is the sort of thing that these people, in their fundamental intellectual simplicity, understand. "Might makes Right" has been their epistle and their gospel the last eight years. I doubt they expected a Democrat to answer them in such a way, 10,000,000 vote margin of victory or not. They certainly never were addressed in such a manner by present House and Senate leadership.

I suspect President Obama has a few more revelations like this up his sleeve, waiting for them. It should be endlessly entertaining when he whips them out and teabags them with said revelations.”

Should Progressives Engage Agents of Intolerance?

Should Progressives Engage Agents of Intolerance?

Commented Dec 24, 2008 at 12:31:57 in Politics

“To my gay brothers and sisters:

As a breeder, some might say my comments might not carry sufficient weight in this matter. But still, I am compelled to comment.

You WILL win this battle. History shows that groups like yours always do. Sometimes not soon enough, but you will win. You are determined and you will not let your voices be stilled.

On the other hand, Rick Warren will be giving his invocation to a bunch of near-terminally frozen people and those watching on TV who will be counting the femtoseconds until he is done with his droning. His words will be reliably vague, full of boilerplate nostrums and will be forgotten in nothing flat, for they will be reliably unimportant, unless he gets up there, loses his mind, and ends up being dragged off the platform by the Secret Service. Which would make for some damn entertaining television.

After all, besides Billy Graham, who used to own that invocation position, name 5 ministers who have given invocations in the past...that's what I thought. Warren will be a lost footnote on some dusty history document.

But you will win. That is a given.”
