“She...
quit 4 schools
quit journalism
quit being governor
quit the Border's Book signing
quit the Turkey Trot

the list gets longer and longer... what will she quit next? Oh wait, didn't she say she quit being Republican because they're not conservative enough? So what is she if she's not that? Should we call the party Conservative Quitters?”

“Don't jump on me... I'm not a republican, but I do have an example... Richard Nixon. HE passed the international bioweapons convention because he realized the dangers there, and he also passed laws prohibiting the use of the developmentally disabled for research purposes (prior to that, many developmentally disabled kids in institutions had been giving hepatitis B, just so researchers could study the 'natural course of the disease...' SICKENING).”

“It's more than that, though. If I didn't have group insurance, I couldn't get insured, all because of pre-existing conditions.”

kleerview replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 13:06:51

“It is also an issue with people prescribed anti-depressants not being able to get individual policies even if ordered for sleep. If you have a history of depression you will not be able to get or if accepted afford health insurance at individual rates. I am "blessed" with a group plan but next year my annual deductible and out of pocket expenses go up $3000 which means I am paying all of my medical bills for the first $3000 and I have not been to the doctor all of 2009 ! Oh, I am still paying $65 per month premium on top of that.”

“Doesn't Ariana remember Obama saying that the Taliban in Afghanistan would be the priority in the war efforts, rather than Iraq lies? He IS doing differently from Bush. Bush made up lies about Iraq and waged war there splitting the focus, and likely allowing Bin Ladin to escape. He brought focus AWAY from where those responsible for the 9/11 attacks were hiding.

However, at this point, things are such a mess that focusing anywhere is likely a moot point. When the region was destabilized by Bush's war with Iraq, the Taliban took advantage of it. Who knows where the core group is now?”

“I had my swine flu vaccine on Saturday. No ill effects. This vaccine is made via the same technique as seasonal flu vaccine, and therefore has over 2 decades of use and testing. In the USA, due to opposition to the use of adjuvants like thimerosol, adjuvants have not been used... so no mercury.

Most side effects are due to the immune response to the vaccine, and are mild... aches, headache, et. al.

Yes, some people will die or get sick after getting the vaccine, but these cases are mostly coincidental... such people would likely have died or become ill from the same conditions whether vaccinated or not. you can also still get the flu. You can get other strains, or you can still get it in the first weeks after the vaccine as it takes time for the immune response to mount.

I really wish people would do their research before saying things against the vaccine. Avoid the nasal if you are in certain risk groups, since it's a live vaccine. Avoid the shot if you're allergic to eggs, since that one is grown in eggs (or be pre-treated for that allergy before getting it).”

“There was a PE requirement at Colorado State when I was there (2 semesters required), but it wasn't linked to BMI at all, and there were alternate courses someone could take if they were unable to participate in athletics (like a quadriplegic friend I had there). In my case, my varsity athletics (track & Cross Country) counted for my PE credits, but my horseback riding and scuba courses would have counted for that too.

I see nothing wrong in a PE requirement. I think it's a good way to get people active. However, tying it into BMI is rather discriminatory. Just make it apply to EVERYONE, not just those with higher BMI's.”

Daniel Webb Dead: Obese SC Man Died After 8 Months In Home Recliner, Didn't Have Health Insurance

“From the article: "His health kept getting worse, and Ada Webb said she begged hospital officials to keep him after doctors treated his knee injury in March. But the couple had no way to pay and were sent home."

Clearly the care was wanted, but lack of insurance prevented it. Yes, he died from morbid obesity, but you don't know all the facts. Maybe he had Cushing syndrome or another medical condition that caused it. Not all obesity is the result of diet and activity levels, and such things could have been diagnosed and treated if he'd had health insurance.”

Lorifromky replied on Nov 19, 2009 at 22:21:59

“Would anyone you know in your family or circle of friends allow a person to stay in a recliner for 8 months? Since he was unemployed, did the family look into medicaid? The family called paramedics twice, once when he hurt his knee and at the very end. Did anyone not think to call the paramedics in between? Say he is having chest pains, say anything, but do not allow the person you love sit in a chair and die over 8 months. The lack of health care was secondary to the lack of common sense - and yes - common decency that this man's family showed him. There are a million things wrong with our health care system, but we do have to take some initiative for ourselves and the people we love.”

calibabe replied on Nov 19, 2009 at 22:20:35

“The care was 'wanted", is that the criteria. My mom 'wanted' to stay in the hospital longer after a hip replacement. Medicare said no, you can walk 50 steps - out you go.”
