Nation's Largest Union: Change Health Care Bill Or Else

Nation's Largest Union: Change Health Care Bill Or Else

Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 15:06:08 in Politics

“With Democratic majorities in the House of Representatives, the Senate and with a Democratic President, there is no excuse at all for the cluster-f. that is the current "health care reform" bill. This is a giant heap of dung, and a slap in the face and kick in the pants to those of us who emptied our wallets and busted our butts to get Democrats, and particularly this President, elected. At this point, I'm sure Republicans are sitting back laughing, like the hyena's they are, at the giant fiasco this has become. The President has shown very poor leadership in getting an acceptable bill passed, and Senator Reid apparently does not have what it takes to get the job done. Maybe he needs to borrow the spurs that President Johnson used to dig into the legs of those he wanted to make sure got his point! Ben Nelson, Joe Lieberman, Mary Landrieu, etc.----you are obviously not team players when it comes to advancing the Democratic Party's platform. You need to be kicked off the team, and we need to proceed with delivering a bill that the majority of those who stood for change in the 2008 election can support. What a bungled up mess this has turned out to be! If we don't get true health care reform, in whatever bill is advanced, you can best believe that there will be extremely undesirable consequences in 2010 and beyond.”

madisonhack replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 08:25:58

“Senators Feingold, Sherrod Brown, Bernie Sanders are apt to not vote for the bill in it's current form, particularly because of the mandate without a public option or Medicare buy-in.

Feingold (my Senator) openly says that this is the bill that Obama wanted all along, that this was negotiated last summer. I believe him.”

“Hey, Rahm---- bite me! Give up your health insurance along with the rest of your government cronies, and THEN we'll talk about "no public option".”

dizmo4 replied on Sep 24, 2009 at 16:45:48

“Again, this isn't Rahm killing the public option, it is him saying that its probably dead because of the US Senate.

The SENATE is the problem.”

“I've been thinking the same thing-----the news coverage has been sooooooo "fair and balanced" on this issue! It is definitely more entertaining to show the angry "mob" and the gun toters, than it is to show a peaceful and productive forum on a crucially important topic like health care reform! This is not the time for "entertainment". It's the time for progress.”

George Tiller Killed: Abortion Doctor Shot At Church

George Tiller Killed: Abortion Doctor Shot At Church

Commented Jun 02, 2009 at 15:47:14 in Home

“When President Clinton was in office, the RICO Act was used to keep the nutbag anti-choice zealots from disrupting abortion clincs and harrassing patients. RICO was used because it covers "acts of terrorism". I can't remember if the use of the Act was struck down by a court, but I believe so. When death threats, harrassment, intimidation, acts of physical violence, and ultimately murder is committed by anti-choice zealots, I believe that the word Terrorism is the proper and appropriate word. If there is no protection for women and their doctors/clinics who are involved in legal abortions, how can we claim that Roe v/Wade is being upheld by the government? If it was any other activity that was permitted by law, those breaking the law with threats, harrassment, intimidation, stalking, assault, or murder, would be arrested and charged by the police and then prosecuted. THAT is what needs to happen to tone the anti-choice muscling-out of a womans' legal right to choose. The anti-choice fringe is interfering with our constitutional right to privacy, and if I did THAT with THEIR precious Second amendment rights, that would not be tolerated. But, by all means, tolerate what's been going on all this time regarding a womans right to privacy because it's easier than taking on the zealots and ending the war against choice, once and for all.”

“hunh. That's an interesting concept. We could stand around gun shows picketing them and protesting them. We could have signs with pictures of all the dead kids from the latest school shooting, tell them they are all prospective murderers or some such nonsense. Wonder how well that would go down?

God save us from the American Taliban”

redkim replied on Jun 02, 2009 at 19:37:48

“So freedom of speech is okay, except for when it concerns stuff you don't like. When that happens then it's totally cool to call into play RICO and the Patriot Act.”

OswegoKayaker replied on Jun 02, 2009 at 18:49:15

“Great post. I think anyone who have ever seen these zealots at a clinic knows that the woman who is making one of the most traumatic and hard choices of her life is being abused by these people. They shout and grab at them (after police leave), wave pictures in their faces, tell them they are going to hell, etc. They do not know which women are there because they are facing a medical crisis because of the pregnancy or what her story is -- and it is a privacy issue. The woman shouldn't have to give her reasons to a cabal of self-righteous talibans. I know I walked a friend through the gauntlet and she was terrified. She was there for information and to talk to a doctor. I think RICO would be the perfect solution. We do not live in Iran, we shouldn't have to have fanatics threatening people.”

“twogunmojo: The fact that this particular victim and perpetrator do not have a relationship is totally irrelevant. Even if they had been married, for example, no one deserves to have their life taken because they have the misfortune of being associated with a power and control, homicidal nut.

This BLAME THE VICTIM mentality in our society is partially to blame for all the injustices that are perpetrated upon others. It has the effect of not holding the perpetrator accountable for their actions. That is one of the primary reasons there are so many outrageous acts taking place.

If WE don't hold them accountable, you can d*mn sure believe the perpetrator will find someone to blame for all of their problems and difficulties in life. You'd better hope that YOU'RE not the next one on their list when they decide that "someone is going to pay!".”
