“If hitting the ground running is all it took to get Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu and the rest of the conservadems to vote for a single payer health care system, repeal don't ask don't tell, pass climate change legislation and pass employees free choice then i'm sure Obama would have done that, but it isn't. Ben Nelson voted against a Democratic presidents budget and voted for the Republican budget. The Democrats have a majority but its not a monolithic group. Sometimes its good that the legislative process is slow and takes 60 votes in the Senate. Imagine if Bush would have used 51 votes to privatize social security or if Reagan would have repealed Medicare with a slim majority.”
