Tea Party Movement Plans 2010 Caucus

Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 10:00:20 in Politics

“It is going to be interesting watching these tea baggers obliderate the Republican leadership in next year's elections by forcing into potential nomination their extreme fringe candidates. Candidates who will likely be comparable to the one who ran in N.Y., Glenn Beck (or Rush) fans. That would pretty much seal deal for the Democratic candidate.”

MaryanneAZ replied on Dec 18, 2009 at 17:58:50

“Shhhhh.... We hope they do not figure that one out. How absurd to siphon off potential votes for the GOP incumbent or opponent in order to promote the idea that Government is bad and all taxes are ev.il. The tea party does not want big Government or its programs, but they WANT their candidates to win elections to be in that Government and to control those programs legislatively? The only way their strategy would work is if there were enough seats up for grabs that would constitute a Majority if they won them. Our election calendar does not allow that to happen at any time. That is exactly why no third party has a chance to ever overtake the Government as a Majority. Trust me, this fact is no accident. The founding fathers were absolutely genius in their development of our new Government.”

“That is not a good picture of Palin. She looks either scared or under stress. Hopefully, she's not going it alone and is getting help and some much needed rest. She really needs to lay low and get into her family. She also needs to get over losing the race and pull back on her not-so-kind comments about Obama and his administration. That would really help her toward healing after all the bad press. Keeping her mouth closed on political issues would go a long ways for her.”

The Bible's Vindication of Obama's Middle East Strategy

Commented Jun 10, 2009 at 17:17:53 in World

“The Bible is only fantasy to you because of bad teaching you may've received for pastors, parents or whoever. What's applicable in today's life is found in the New Testiment, which is the book we should read before drawing any conclusions-- "Study to show yourself approved." I suggest the gospels of John on to the first chapter of Revelations as a start.

Now the Bible is not a book for intellectual absorption but, rather, for spiritual absorption. Like our physical minds we also have a spiritual mind that needs to be fed. So say a short pray for understanding prior to reading the Bible.”

grooveygrover replied on Jun 11, 2009 at 15:58:54

“the bible was created by a bunch of men at the council of Nicea at the behest of constantine, they kept the gospels that were convenient for the time and try to destroy the others. The purpose was to impose constatine's version of christianity on the masses. worked for the most part.”

DonCosenza replied on Jun 11, 2009 at 01:48:41

“So only the New Testament is useful to understand God?

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” -- Matthew 5:17

'Now the Bible is not a book for intellectual absorption but, rather, for spiritual absorption.'

Baulderdash. The Bible (both old and new testaments) makes tons of factual claims, most of dubious veracity. It is upon these claims that any spiritual merit to the texts rely. The spiritual value of the Bible is therefore only as strong as its intellectual value (intellect being the property with which we distinguish truth from falsity)... and that is not very strong at all.”

“Obama has so many pressing things on his plate. He's obvioulsy trying to work his campaign promises, but he has to prioritize if he's going to get anything done. If Dan Choi would've just kept his mouth shut until Obama reworked the "don't ask don't tell" law he'd still have a job. But nooo, Choi had to test the waters with the law still firmly in place, then he cries foul over being fired. Why couldn't he have waited, even it it took a full year before Obama worked on that law?”

waitforme replied on May 08, 2009 at 00:20:10

“Evidently there is a legal option which Obama can use or not use. By not using it he is affirming the law as it stands. Things come up. -- Torture comes up, unplanned; and has to be dealt with, not ignored, not 'let's look toward the future'; by not dealing with it fairly he is affirming torture.

(There is always someone, isn't there, who elects to blame the victim?)”

Heaphy replied on May 08, 2009 at 00:00:15

“Both Barack Obama and Dan Choi are advancing change, each in their own way. Don't ask Barack Obama to move faster than the American people are prepared to move - or slower. He is a far more masterful politician than you or I. And don't ask Dan Choi to "keep his mouth shut". He is an honorable patriot with valuable skills we need for our national defense. No Arabic linguist should be discharged from the service for matters as trivial as sexual orientation. No soldier, sailor or airman/airwoman should. Change is coming. Change WILL come. Both men are playing their historic roles. I believe that before long, Dan Choi and many others like him will be back in uniform.

- Jim Heaphy”

Truthahn replied on May 07, 2009 at 23:55:24

“Get real. If Choi waited a year it would be campaign season for the 2010 midterms. You really think Obama and the Democratic Congress would have the courage to tackle this issue right before midterm elections? If Choi waited till after midterms, then it would be time for Obama to start campaigning for reelection, so that would be an even worse time. Was Choi supposed to wait until Barack's 2nd term starts in January of 2013?”

MountainPenelope replied on May 07, 2009 at 23:55:08

While important, this issue is 'way down the list of priorities!”

t iessa replied on May 07, 2009 at 23:46:00

“"Obama has so many pressing things on his plate." Yeah, as someone said earlier, we wouldn't want a little thing like human rights to be a priority in his administration.”

RoadCrossingChicken replied on May 07, 2009 at 23:41:09

“I don't know why he did not wait. Maybe he was just fed up with living a lie. Maybe he figured if he went a head and came out he might force some of the suits in Washington to get started NOW. I cannot imagine how it is to have to deal with something like this.

Don't ask, don't tell is a very cowardly way for the brass to deal with this. Either accept that we are now in the 21st century and accpet these people and let them do what they have been doing in our military without being afraid someone will "find out"... or just say "No, you cannot be in the military." and then they will have to deal with the flack that will cause.”

Commented May 07, 2009 at 09:48:08 in Politics

“Running against a black candidate, and riding off her popularity in Alaska, Sarah just 'knew' she was enough to push McCain over the top. Especially after her successful convention introduction. Everything, including her state, was pushed aside in, what quickly became, a progressively-fleeting bid for the second highest office in the country. She has been a good lesson in when to say "no thank you" when offered a political postion that way over one's head.”

billbb replied on May 07, 2009 at 10:34:07

“One of the books Sarah has obviously not read was the "Peter Principle" about people tending to rise to their level of incompetence. When Alaska was riding high on the oil boom and she handed out free money, she was really popular. Now things have turned bad and Sarah is looking more to saving Mrs. Palin than to working at the governor job. It isn't fun anymore, now that tough descisions have to be made.

Yeah, anyone can steer the ship when the weather is clear. When a storm comes up, it is helpful to have someone who has a clue or two.”

“You know, there is something more insideous here that may be true. The "torture memos" began before the Iraq war. Miss-information about existing WMDs may've been the bi-product of torture. The war in Iraq may be the dirty little secret about just how INEFFECTIVE torture is. Four-thousand plus American lives later and no WMDs. Why was the Bush administration so sure that they were there? They had said so with such certainty, like they knew they were there? How? I believed a torture victim told them what they wanted to here. A man so tormented he did whatever he needed to make the torture stop. Bush officials believed him.”

It was an intended slight by whoever told the media, and I would say gleefully, that Obama's "body of work" wasn't adequate enough for them to honor him with a degree. Intent plays a big part in how this went down, and I believe my assessment is accurate.”
