White House Protects Blue Dogs and Bullies Progressives

Commented Aug 19, 2009 at 15:00:22 in Politics

“I would bully the Progressives too, y'all need to relies that America is bigger than San Fran, Chicago and other uber liberal districts like West Hollywood unless you really wanna become a minority party in 2010. I'm saying please go ball out with this "Progressive" agenda but keep that resume handy”

DocTwain replied on Aug 19, 2009 at 20:04:02

“There are more progressives in American than conservatives.
60% of Americans want single payer health care.
59% of American doctors want single payer health care.
Nothing is more progressive than single payer health care.
Ergo, progressives are the American Majority.
It is only the lies of the media and the corruption of the political process that keep us down.
If Democrats would actually act like Democrats, they would win a permanent majority.

It stands to reason that if one party really does fight to protect the interests of the lower 99% of Americans, while the other party fights only for the interests of the top 1%, the first party will win. That's why the plutocrats have seeded the Democratic party with Republicans (i.e. "Blue Dogs," "DLC," "New Democrats," etc.). Because so many Democrats are actually agents of the plutocrats, voters aren't that enthusiastic about Democrats, and think they're just about as bad as the GOP--which, as far as the Centrists are concerned, is basically true.. But end that corruption and the GOP would implode.”

“Should I pay for your heath care: NO
Should you pay for my heath care: NO
Do we need heath care reform: YES

***BUT***
This an't the way to do the damm thing. The new system they want to set up is a lifetime guarantee to get Democrats elected and reelected (becuase the "R" will run to either rip the thing away or water it down). Many of the "poor" and "middle class" (that is to be around the 250K area) should have something like the Amish where they set up a catastrophic pool, when you get things like Cancer our "for-profit" system should have the best of the best Hospitals in this nation to trip over themselves to fix you up so they can say "we got the best med care," you walk away healthy and we all maybe learn something new so we can learn more about catastrophic heath care then just waiting on a list to more likely die”

BBackSoon replied on Jul 20, 2009 at 10:08:24

“Hell, I don’t want to pay for my own health insurance.

Let me explain, I pay $170 a week for family health insurance. It sill costs me a $30 co-pay to see my doctor. It is too expensive, and it covers less and less every year. The profit driven portions of health care such as Big Insurance, Big Pharma and Big Medical are the problems. We have groups that provide little real benefit yet demand and get a large share of the health care dollar.

Do you have insurance? Does it cost you? If not where do you get your insurance?”

skyeapril replied on Jul 19, 2009 at 16:12:44

“Earth to Jibreela . . . you obviously have not had a catastrophic illness in your immediate family and should get out more to see what is really happening in this country. Healthcare reform is not a political ploy to make the Democrats look good. If the Republicans cared more for their constituents than the lobbyists big checks then they would be seriously trying to help craft a bill that fixes the ills rather than just saying NO to everything.

When we do get reform forced through and decades from now when history shows that reform had as important an impact as Social Security has had on peoples lives, there will be lots of naysayers like you pretending that you supported it back at its inception. Everyone loves a winner, so get on board now.”

We pay for each others National Parks If you don't recognize this you must be from outer space or something and it might be time for ET to Phone Home.

What we need is what works successfully in other civilized nations ... Comprehensive Universal Single Payer Health Care. I don't care if the Democrats or the Republicans get the credit for implementing it but for the good of the United States it must be implemented. It's not rocket science, ET.”

washlib replied on May 11, 2009 at 04:40:52

“Tenure will not protect her if she is prosecuted for warcrimes, or if Stanford feels her presence is too much of a distraction for the school, which it may become. She obviously lied to the American people about the (nonexistent) threat from Iraq, as it's clear the 43rd administration purposefully created false intelligence to warrant invasion. The purpose appears three-fold, to control Iraqi oil resources, send a warning to other countries that seek to change the trade of oil into other currencies, and to create a permanent hegemony in the region via 50+ military bases.

History will judge Rice accordingly, and it will not be pretty. It's up to Stanford, as an institution of higher learning, to decide what side they want to be on. You can bet their will sacrifice her tenure if it means they may lose funding and/or attendance.”

“is there mayors in Alaska?”

inmyopinion replied on Apr 22, 2009 at 19:11:29

“By the way, I'm also assuming that your "Is there mayors in Alaska" query is a sincere question, posed with the intention of actually getting factual information.
I don't know why I make such a charitable assumption. Nothing you have written in the past indicates either any understanding of Alaska or any sincere desire to understand Alaska's unusual conditions, circumstances and what is really happening here.
For example, you have in the past insisted that Alaska's economy is in great shape (?!?), that Alaska is recession-proof (?!?!?!?), both assertions that any economist here, or any long-term resident, can tell you are flat-out wrong. As a state inordinately dependent on commodities prices that are beyond our control, particularly oil prices, Alaska's economy has always been very, very vulnerable, and goes through many deep busts as well as booms.
Frankly, your assertions about Alaska seem to be just Lower 48 Palinista fantasies.”

inmyopinion replied on Apr 22, 2009 at 16:55:36

“I'm assuming you are wondering whether the problems in the villages could and should have been addressed by those villages' mayors.
To answer, with all due respect: Yes, there are mayors in Alaska, but not in many of these villages. Many Native villages lack the funds or resources to support a local government under the state system. The villages most affected by the fuel/food crisis this winter are in the Wade Hampton census area, which is not organized into any borough and lacks any local government in the middle-America sense.
There are tribal councils, but the Palin administration is extremely adamant about refusing to recognize tribal sovereignty. The Palin administration, unlike the feds, does not engage in any government-to-government relations with tribes, and as there are no city governments in many of the villages, that leaves no one in charge but the state government. (The federal government DOES recognize tribal authority, and long has, even in Republican administrations. Some BIA aid for western Alaska was secured by Senators Begich and Murkowski, so perhaps future problems could be eased if the state recognized tribes and allowed them to govern locally.)
The situation of rural Alaska is very complex and unlike that in most of the Lower 48. Especially in western Alaska, there's not really much of a cash economy or tax base in the mainstream dominant American culture sense, though people do work very hard maintaining a traditional Native lifestyle.”
