“The amnesia is all yours.

The Afghan war isn't Obama's---Bush began it, neglected it, and left it for Obama to clean up.

There was no valid reason to invade Iraq---a nation which posed ZERO threat to the US.

You lack even the most rudimentary understanding of the issues, or you would not post such overweening nitwittery.”

rollingdivision replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 11:14:15

“Thunderclapnewman my post is not a defense of Bush's surge in Iraq, but rather pointing out the hippocrasy of progressives in now supporting obama's Afghan War. How do you defend obama's choice to escalate the Afghan War??”

Marcospinelli replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 10:51:08

“You're awfully generous with our national treasure there, Newman.

By all accounts, there is no "cleaning up" possible. We're throwing good money and lives after bad, staving off the inevitable. Those who pose a threat to US security aren't there.

You make a tired argument, based on what Obama would have done 2 years ago. For Obama to be sending more troops to Afghanistan to fight the Bush-Cheney 'war on terror' would be like FDR sending troops to the battle of Arnheim in 1945 after it was lost (and a dismal failure) in 1944.

(WWII, Operation Market Garden - http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwtwo/battle_arnhem_01.shtml)

We know a heII of a lot more now about the true state of our national security and where and what the threat really is.

It's interesting that this is the only campaign pledge of Obama's that he's keeping. Every other one has been broken because of lame excuse like, "We're NOT starting from scratch", etc. How long is it going to take Obama's most ardent admirers to realize that he's a 'Company' man now, a continuation of the Bush-Cheney administration's policies. Just about every last one of them. You know you didn't vote for that.

Only the 'now' matters, and this is the wrong decision for now. It goes completely against the Obama doctrine, for what US foreign policy should be around the world. So Obama's even going against his own positions.”

The right will oppose Obama, viscerally, because he is Obama, because he is a Democrat, because he is black, and because they lost.

It doesn't matter what he proposes---they will oppose it.”

The Met Office plans to re-examine 160 years of temperature data after admitting that public confidence in the science on man-made global warming has been shattered by leaked e-mails.

The new analysis of the data will take three years, meaning that the Met Office will not be able to state with absolute confidence the extent of the warming trend until the end of 2012.”
