Big Labor, Big Concerns: Obama's Approach Causing Tension

“I think it is getting close to third party time. President Obama is very close to loosing labor's support and labor will NEVER vote for Republicans because of what Reagan did to the Air Traffic Controllers.”

“What signs are those? A lower number in the increase of unemployed last month? Keep in mind that just to stay even with people entering the jobs market you have to create 100,000 NEW jobs every month. If you think unemployment is getting better then take a look at this animated map of the United States showing unemployment increases by county over the past couple of years.

>>> http://cohort11.americanobserver.net/latoyaegwuekwe/multimediafinal.html

Are things getting better Marginally. Will they continue to get better? Probably not because they is always an increase in unemployment right after the holidays as temps are let go.

Will the Republicans and conservatives join with President Obama to put together another stimulus plan? Don't hold your breath because it is in the political interests of Republicans to do everything they can to insure President Obama's failure and the economy is the elephant in the roon right now.”

“The only hope for some kind of 2nd stimulus is if President Obama can make use of the repaid TARP funds in a way that boosts the economy. Republicans sure aren't going to be part of any 2nd stimulus plan because it is in their best interests to keep the country in economic pain until they regain control of Congress.”

masher replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 13:35:58

“You can throw all the money in the world at the US and it won't matter. We don't make things anymore!! If a nation produces no wealth and isn't committed to change then throwing money at jobs is a waste of time.

Obama has blown every chance to change things. He has carefully managed to change nothing. It is intentional.”

HMDMSR replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 13:19:43

“I agree that "Republicans sure aren't going to be part of any 2nd stimulus plan..."

Republicans, if they regain power, will attempt a Hooverian economic agenda, which will end in disaster, precipitating a political crisis.

What will Americans choose to do at that point, having been disillusioned via the Obama fiasco, and brutally abused by the Republicans?

A second stimulus would provide an escape hatch for the established powers, and would allow them another attempt to rescue their system from the majority of Americans.”

“Quit kidding yourself. He is likely right.

Once we see the holidays sales numbers we'll know a bit more about how the consumer feels. Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress will continue to do everything they can to make sure that there is no economic recovery until after the mid-term elections. It is their best bet on regaining control of the House and Senate. They are using the American people to further their grab for power in Washington.”

Republicans arer parasites waiting to take control of our country and keep it in the hands of the rich elite and corporations all with that fake Sarah Palin and Tom Delay smile... They preach otherwise, but their actions betray them every time, big example the last 8 years with Bush and how he gave it all to the wealthiest 1%.”

“You're right. I was returning from Washington to NYC during the 1977/78 snowstorm on the East Coast and took the Metroliner because I knew the airports would be closed. We got into Baltimore and had to set there for about 2 hours until they could couple up an old Pennsy GG-1 to the Metroliner. The overhead power was fine but the Metroliner was just too light to handle the heavy amount of snow accumulating on the tracks. We crept into NYC about 6 hours late. Fortunately, I could take the subway to within about 3 blocks of home because taxis were nowhere.”

“Well, you have to consider what would likely happen if it fails to pass. The Republican spin machine would spend the next 15 years hammering the Democrats for its failure to get Health Care Reform passed. Essentially, it's a Catch 22 situation.

The only hope the Democrats have is that something will come out of the House/Senate Conference Committee that has enough in it to provide some meaningful reform. If that happens then the only thing that can happen is the Republicans can try to block it in the Senate of the final vote. It's unlikely they will want to expose themselves to the potential of having been totally responsible for killing Health Care Reform.”

“Shades of Nikola Tesla. They will probably do a lot of work just to find out that Tesla patented it and then had the patents stole by Edison.”

horhay replied on Dec 19, 2009 at 01:59:26

“Yes that is a Tesla experiment. Tesla was funded by J.P. Morgan & so was Edison. But Tesla wanted to give us free power and was eventually deeply in debt. I believe that's how Edison and Morgan got their hands on the patents.

Tesla was a Croatian Serb and when he died his remains were sent back to what was then Yugoslavia. He died owing many creditors. Some of his property, like steamer trunks containing many of his writings and scientific exposes were sent back to Yugoslavia, and when the U.S.S.R. took over eastern Europe they acquired much of Tesla's work as well.”
