“The last video was fast but it was paced for the younger audience who are capable of capturing a screen's information much faster than previous generations. It's a product of speed reading and having to quickly evaluate and understand those items that are critical when playing a video game. Face it, gamers read/recognize content differently. I'm still in the mode of linear reading... outdated.
At the same time, if you are going in for laparoscopic surgery one of the questions you should ask the surgeon is how many hours of video games they play each week. Gamers (within reason) have much better success rates.”

Humana Mailer Targets Elderly, Claims Medicare Benefits To Be Cut

“If you have opted for a Medicare Senior Advantage plan with your health insurance company you are NOT really getting medicare benefits. The insurance company bills Medicare and you are totally subject to the whims of the way your health insurance company manades your plan.
If you can, get out of the Senior Advantage plan and find a company that provides a Medicare Supplement Plan. It may be a little more expensive but you will revert to Medicare for your primary insurance and the Supplemental plan to cover the Medicare gap.
Allowing health care insurance companies to market Medicare Senior Advantage plans was a major snow job on seniors that was allowed by Congress based on pressure by companies offering these plans.”

One has to ask, "What did the photo contribute to the story?" Looking at this I have to say it really didn't contribute anything to the actual story. You are right, a good reporter can paint the picture without resorting to a photo. However, that is not to say that in some future story a similar photo wouldn't be appropriate. One also has to realize that many people don't really read to a level where even a well written story can "paint the picture" in the reader's mind. And in other cases, the reader simply doesn't want the picture painted. Sadly, we continue to live in denial of the cost of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. I think for too long the horror of war has been hidden (no photos of returning caskets, no coverage of funerals, the list of those killed only appearing nightly on PBS) and the cost borne by too few in our country.”

“I guess Dorfman simply wants to ignore that fact that everyone of those new cars was sold by an independant dealer who provides jobs to his local community (was Dorfman one of those people wringing his hands about how many dealers were being closed by GM and Chrysler?). The other major point is that many of those "foreign" cars, i.e., Toyotas and Hondas and others, were actually made in the United States by U.S. workers again saving jobs. It was very interesting to note that at least one U.S. manufacturer was restarting some production lines and calling people back to work because the C4C program has drawn down inventory to the point where they needed to start building cars again.”

“This is not about "personal responsibility, or integrity" as you state. This is about newspapers that have promised through years and years of reporting to be unbiased and objective while reporting news. Instead, much news now wears the mantle of reporting false innuendo, outright lies and deception, and do not differentiate between editorial or lay opinions and legitimate facts in news. In reality, Americans are fed false and malicious lies and because of 1st A. rights which protect speech against public figures if no malice can be attached we do not know what the truth is. Personally, I vote to throw out the "Times v Sullivan" and Gertz USSCT decisions which have benefited the news media for years in Tort actions brought by individuals. News papers, and other media purporting to be news should be fully accountable for any statements that they make to the public. That means they must do their investigatory homework. Hiding behind statements that individuals have stated the news (as in the cases of Palin and the birthers) and not necessarily the media is misleading. Just how stupid does the media think we readers and listeners are?”

Crazies used to just stand on the street corner, yelling at the cars driving by. Then someone in the media decided that they could make a buck by putting them on TV. Now instead of talking about real issues, the Pres. has to spend about 5 minutes of every speech rebutting the insane claims.
i.e. NO death panels, no secret government plan to steal your money, etc
This is where we've gotten, and its entirely because the media treats anything anyone says as legitimate. Every opinion, no matter how stupid or crazy is valid. If they call a lie a lie or a crazy crazy, they're biased. so instead of being respectable , they've become a joke.”

Stimulus Spending Fails to Follow Unemployment, Poverty
Commented Aug 06, 2009 at 10:50:22 in Politics
“Your point #2. Is right on the money. while much of the money has reached the states it is their decision as to how it will be spent. When looking at transportation money (especially in State swhere Republicans control the government) almost all of this was shoveled out to rural areas and very little went towards projects in urban areas. This made it look like nothing is happening and it also allowed the Republicans to pour the money into the pockets of very few contractors working in ruralk areas.
One other issue is making it hard to get the stimulus money into circulation, that is the issue of matching funds. Many of these "shovel ready" projects require the State and or local municipality to come up with matching funds. Since the recession had a major effect on State tax revenues many of them have been hard pressed to find the matching funds without cutting back in spending on critical programs or diverting money from projects well underway.”
