“Maybe the referenced school district would like to provide a substantive answer to the same question regarding their "indocrination" concerns.

But then again --- I think we all know what the "crux of the matter" was in their case.

FWIW --- my "gems" are meant to provoke thought ---- I see too many others here that are pure dogma and nothing else. While that approach works well for the NRA, Rush, Karl Rove, G.W. Bush, Glenn Beck, etc. --- I don't care for it.”

“Frequently ALL of the pieces in a comment need to be read together with the understanding that they are not literal but are abstract --- requiring you to "go somewhere else" to gain the necessary context.

I will not spoon feed you and I will not attempt to teach a pig to fly --- you know what they say about that effort? Oh that's right ---- pigs CAN'T actually fly --- I forgot.”

Berettasskeeter replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 20:08:40

“Sorry guy, it was you that brought up a "bet" that the district would not air the NRA's views. Therefore, it is incumbent on you to provide some illumination on what you think that indoctrination may be. The district DID NOT, by your words, bring this up. YOU DID!
Provoking thought is fine if you have cogent argument. You don't seem to have that cogency. What you have is blatant nonsensical statements with no concrete backing!

“I live near a "red" county that refused to air Obama's recent speech on education --- some schools nationwide allowed kids to opt out -- this whole county refused to air the speech ---- afraid of "indocriniation" don't ya know.

I'd bet that same county wouldn't want NRA-style indoctrination being brought into their schools either.

Yep --- I'll just bet.

Odie ---- for the benefit of the "faithful" here --- please recap the move by Repug G.H.W. Bush to limit certain AW importation early in his term as POTUS.”

“"I live near a "red" county that refused to air Obama's recent speech on education "

So move.

"I'd bet that same county wouldn't want NRA-style indoctrination being brought into their schools either."

No indoctrination. Just basic safety rules.

"Odie ---- for the benefit of the "faithful" here --- please recap the move by Repug G.H.W. Bush to limit certain AW importation early in his term as POTUS."

Which has what to do with anything?”

Berettasskeeter replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 14:18:32

“Of what "NRA-style indoctrination" do you speak? Would it be the Constitutional background of the 2d Amendment? Or, would it be safe firearm handling classes? Or would it perhaps be competitive shooting?
You throw these little gems around, but never getting around to the crux of the matter! How about doing so.

“"Yeah, they've made a few missteps..."

Their twice endorsement of Shrub Boy being two of them. Their revisionist assessment of Shrub post-2008 election as a "gun friendly POTUS doesn't pass the giggle test.

NRA + Shrub = Zero (credibility)”

Toonadude replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 13:02:53

“Funny thing, dj --- I don't recall ever supporting those politicians. You should stick to the facts / truth. But you live in "anti-world" where criticism of one thing (Repugs / Shrub Boy / the NRA) automatically imparts support to the opposition. Furthermore, the NRA's support of Shrub Boy stands on its own "merit " ---- Gore and Kerry aside. Recall they failed to endorse Dole over Clinton in 96 --- two years after the AWB. They could have also refused to support any candidate in 2000 & 2004. The NRA knows it messed up by backing Shrubby--- thus the revisionist approach now that Shrubby is out of office. But the damage is done.

“Surely you are not implying that NRA members allow the NRA to do their heavy lifting (thinking) for them?”

benEzra replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 08:09:24

“Huh? The NRA didn't create the misleading "Do you want to keep guns out of the hands of terrah-ists???" poll, MAIG did. And it is MAIG and the gun-control lobby that are trying to retask the unconstitutional Bush blacklists as gun-prohibition lists.

As far as supporting point-of-sale background checks (as I do), you have it backwards, I think. The NRA is OK with the checks because most of its members are, and guess who elects the board of directors (yeah, the members).”

“"No, it is a call for the bureaucracy to use the tools they routinely throw away."

Sounds like the law enforcement agencies are overstaffed then. Perhaps a reduction in force and accompanying tax cut are in order. It's the Republican thing to do and, accordingly, would receive the full support of the NRA. Taxpayers shouldn't be expected to wait for any change in enforcement approach that may never come.”

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 11:59:54 in Politics

“"We assert that we do not need more regulation - what we need is better enforcement."

This sounds like a call to staff up the bureaucracy. That means more taxes. For a generation now, one of the two main political parties has sold their rot on the platform of “We can serve all of your concerns best…..but with no new taxes.” .. and there appears to be no shortage of lemmings who buy into it. The NRA dutifully serves in its role as a shill for this same political party by endorsing just about all of its national level candidates for elected office. There appears to be a disconnect here.”
