Commented Dec 07, 2009 at 08:38:05 in Politics

“The modern day NRA peddles fear and mines ignorance. Just like Bush/Cheney/Rove and the modern day Republican Party. Maybe that’s why the NRA has turned into a shill for the Repugs. Odie and mike102 -- you should read LaPierre so you can gain an understanding of the organization that you so blindly follow. Yes --- LaPierre speaks for the NRA ---- it’s his job to do so.”

“"No, it is a call for the bureaucracy to use the tools they routinely throw away."

Sounds like the law enforcement agencies are overstaffed then. Perhaps a reduction in force and accompanying tax cut are in order. It's the Republican thing to do and, accordingly, would receive the full support of the NRA. Taxpayers shouldn't be expected to wait for any change in enforcement approach that may never come.”

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 11:59:54 in Politics

“"We assert that we do not need more regulation - what we need is better enforcement."

This sounds like a call to staff up the bureaucracy. That means more taxes. For a generation now, one of the two main political parties has sold their rot on the platform of “We can serve all of your concerns best…..but with no new taxes.” .. and there appears to be no shortage of lemmings who buy into it. The NRA dutifully serves in its role as a shill for this same political party by endorsing just about all of its national level candidates for elected office. There appears to be a disconnect here.”

“I'm still waiting for dj or even you, mike102, " to document that: " ..all of the proRKBA people here support birth control and abortion rights." I challenged Odie to take up the issue with dj for making a such broad, unsupported claim but, as usual, when called on something it was off to another RKBA-related site to run through the "assault weapon / assault rifle -- one pull/one bang -- hey look at my curriculum vitae" rant that the gullible, NRA-worshipping lemmings have come to expect.”

“"Howabout we actually look at the CAUSES of violence in the country? Poverty, racism, lack of education, etc."

For once we seem to agree on something, TP. Curious though -- what ideas has the "no new taxes" crowd put forward to address these issues? The "party faithful" looked to GW Bush for massive spending cuts in his second term (it was O.K. to spend his way to re-election in his 1st term) but we know how that worked out. Furthermore, I have seen where some of the most pro-RKBA posters here appear to earn their living from a public sector source / endeavor (government worker / military pension, etc.) and I'm guessing they don't want to be unemployed or have their benefit checks cut even if the result is to fund social issues and thus reduce violence where guns are involved.

I would be interested in their views on that point.”

Berettasskeeter replied on Oct 05, 2009 at 22:09:08

“The Federal government has thrown massive amounts of cash at those problems, so much so that if they had given all the poor and oppressed a million dollars, we'd have nothing to talk about... or would we? It isn't taxes that will remedy those issues, it is personal responsibility and education. Parents have a responsibility to themselves and their children to enforce education and discipline, but does the Left want children disciplined?
Stop the free flow of our tax dollars to those voluntarily indigent, and what will happen? Will they sit in the rain and starve to death, or will they get jobs, possibly those jobs that "Americans don't want to do"??

“"Why is it so important WHOM the NRA endorses? "

Hard as it might be to believe, many voters (whether they are NRA members or not) base their vote on that endorsement. With the double G.W. Bush endorsements, the NRA has demonstrated that their judgement is flawed and that they are serving as a shill for the Republican party.

The NRA's credibility on political endorsements is toast and they need to keep out of politics before they endorse any more Constitution trashers.

It's that simple.”
