Natalie Portman Doesn't Like To Play Jewish Women, Girlfriends
Commented Jan 06, 2010 at 10:34:04 in Entertainment
“Nat is pretty classy for a movie star, and I don't blame her at all for not wanting to be always typecast in Jewish roles. Maybe she should go blonde to avoid that in the future. Hollywood sees dark hair and all they can think is ETHNIC!”
OakDragon replied on Jan 06, 2010 at 17:24:14
“I can't help but think of Danny Kaye. Once he bleached his hair and played Hans Christian Andersen, people thought of him as Nordic. ;-)”

“Hey, my mom had a dog, Homer, who was half Great Dane and half Mastiff. He could put his front paws on the shoulders of a 6 foot tall man and was obviously taller. I don't know his own standing shoulder measurement. He did weigh 200 pounds tho'. He was a sweet gentle giant. RIP.
My brother would play at trying to choke him. He wouldn't even notice. His neck was solid muscle and his head was like an anvil. Once, on the beach, he found and played with a railroad tie all day, carrying it around in his powerful jaws. He had another game on the beach that was kind of dangerous. He'd go a ways off and then turn and come galloping toward you, always swerving at the last moment. If you freaked and moved the wrong way, he would knock you off your feet and into the air. Fun for all.”

Olympia Snowe Will Vote Against Health Care Reform

“The bill that exists is NOT reform. Whatever her reasons for not signing, I can't say she SHOULD sign it because nobody should sign it. They need to start over without the lobbyists dictating terms.”

“She's in the Senate - if she wanted a different bill, she could have help craft one. Oh yes, she did in the Finance Committee where she voted Yes. The bill really hasn't changed that much - she was stomped on by the Republican leadership and caved.
So, the answer is - she is against all reform!”

“I would say from all I've read about/from her that she's against the crappy bill. However, the bill is crappy because it does not provide the public option. It DOES correct some bad practices from the insurance industry, but if it went far enough to do that, then the rich fat cats would not be rushing to invest in the Insurance industry. But that has to be because of the mandate, which is going to end up being impossible to enforce with all the provisions allowing that it doesn't have to be followed -- religious objections, not being able to afford it, etc., etc.,”

“There will be subsidies and people will have to buy ins. or pay a fine. But the amount that these fat-cats think middle-class and poor people can *afford* as a new monthly payment added to their already-stretched budgets is a joke. Most people these days cannot afford the rising monthly bills they have already. Now they're supposed to-- make that, forced to-- pay hundreds of dollars a month more for private health ins. which may or MAY NOT actually cover them if they get sick....? What a travesty. And the regulations on the private insurers are only that they have to take everybody, regardless of health condition, but no cap on what they can charge for premiums. I think I see where that's going.... through the roof!
Reform my ass.”

Kill Bill. Start over.”
MarionWatts replied on Dec 18, 2009 at 10:48:02
“You kill it, you bury it. Everytime healthcare reform has been introduced and trounced in government, it takes a long time to return and it returns in a weaker form. Kill this bill now, and I guarantee, the GOP will tangle up the legislative agenda with so much cr*p (and there IS a lot to be done) for the next three years, it will never see the light of day. They will also point to the stances of Dean and Nader and play that divisiveness to the masses. The result? President Palin and you're stuck. And healthcare won't raise its head again. The European systems are hanging on by their fingernails and running at losses, enduring all sorts of service cuts rather than sell out to private entities, but that day is coming - which means it won't return in the States.
Nader and Dean both have huge egos and axes to grind, and both are multi-millionaires. Killing this healthcare bill now wouldn't affect them in the least. They're covered, and probably by cadillac plans. Don't forget, Dean' s fortune comes from medicine as well. Just like Bill Frist.

Rupert Everett's Advice To Gay Actors: Stay In The Closet
Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 17:27:06 in Entertainment
“Whether it makes sense or not, the female audience for a leading man/movie star wants to be able to fantasize about that man and herself, NOT that man and another man. So that's life. Don't ask don't tell if you want the larger fan base. Dougie Howser is pulling it off somehow so it's not impossible, just rare. Oh, and also? Straight actors who play gay roles probably pay a price for that in terms of suspicion following them around.”
