“We turned our television off - forever - over 16 years ago now. Our oldest child was 8 or 9 at the time. We didn't even watch the evening programming at that point - just some of the public television children's programming.

However - we wanted to be sure that our children would not be subjected to the ceaseless and mindless barrage of advertising. We didn't want them owned by corporate America.

Now - as you discuss - the television issue is even more complex and obscene. Not only that - you can see it in high resolution on a screen that gives you larger than life images.

It is a true assault on our senses and our sensibilities. If you want soulless children - television is the way to go.

All of it.

“I would go further and dump it in Lieberman's office. He got the okay to go home for the Hannukah holiday since they don't need his vote on the funding bill. When he comes back and finds his office filled with snow floor to ceiling...maybe he'll get the message on healthcare reform.”

“Yeah I saw that last night. It's enough to make you want to fold your tent and go home. If you had a home.

The Re=Thugs have had their way with this country. It can be turned around - but it won't happen anytime soon. Unfortunately they gutted the education system and own all major media now -- very little that can be done to overcome those disadvantages in the short run.

Our only hope is assuring they don't overturn net-neutrality. Without that - we won't even have a country to rescue.

ErnestineBass replied on Dec 18, 2009 at 13:19:12

“You got that right...if the SCOTUS grants corporations the power to cut out their PAC middleman and DIRECTLY FUND campaigns, net neutrality will be on the chopping block first thing.”

“I was ready to be impressed by this man. If he had gone about things the right way - and not been so divisive - looked for ways to build a stronger base without alienating others to badly - I would have been very proud of him. He's accomplished a lot in his life and has a right to be proud of himself. The way he handled his last two presidential runs was not a credit to him. He could have done it right - he could have had more of an impact.

I'm a progressive and I criticize Obama all the time (and get thumped for it regularly here) - and I am not alone.

Nader is somewhat of a sad case - and it didn't have to be that way.*”

“The Unions understand that as premiums go up - and they're expecting double digit increases AGAIN next year -- the price hikes will automatically bump them into the category of "cadillac plans" as the term is currently defined in the bill.

This is a legitimate concern AND it will also be happening to those of us with regular employer health plans.

He's doing us ALL a favor by pointing this out people - calm down.
