“Intelligence is not the only worthy attribute. Intelligence in a dog does not at all necessarily make it easy to live with. As a matter of fact, the opposite is often true. If you do not have work for a border collie, a border collie will think of something to do all on his own. He will be doing something at all times.”
“Yes. We have a low-functioning autistic niece and so were excited to see Rainman when it first came out. Within the first 15 minutes of that movie, you learn the Dustin Hoffman character has a lot of money for his care. All tension gone. This gentleman is lucky to be surrounded by a warm family.”
“If a woman had painted on hair, you can bet this thread would be full of comments about it. As far as this question...? What is more amazing is that a woman would never be suspected of saying such a thing about a man. What a double standard the world puts on women!.”

“Indeed. And the proof is that the denigrating comment this man made is far more apt if applied to Berlusconi himself - but male privilege means he can have every expectation of going through life immune to such comments. It is his privilege to judge the looks of women while being physically repulsive himself. In fact, it may just be the privilege you will find men most dedicated to protecting.”

“I used to puzzle over what Will Rogers could have meant when he said, "I never met a man I didn't like". ( Let's assume he meant "human".) It felt like a breakthrough for me when i realized that's exactly how i felt about dogs. Exactly.
For a long time after i did exercises like imagining every stranger was either my mother or a Labrador. And...you know what? I am now much more of that than i used to be. Look at people with love and they will feel it right away.”
“Oh, i do wish i had some surveillance cameras too, Lee, but it would only be to watch the baby birds coyotes. I would feel lucky to see a lynx or bobcat. I don't think they cost very much these days. I might go to radio shack this afternoon. Hope the little boy isn't afraid of dogs his whole life now. For all we know an under-socialized dog might have felt she was saving the boy from a horrid bike.”
“So am I.
But people drive through our lovely town, and think anyplace with lovely homes, and lovely horseflesh all around must have $$ and break-ins are known.
It's also nice to be able to catch the critter that's been making a mess of your garden and know what you're dealing with WITHOUT having to trap or shoot it.”
“I blame the dog's owner for not knowing that dog had it in for the kid for whatever reason. Three of my cats have done the same rescue thing...one was defending her little Pomeranian dog friend from a cattle dog attack. Anyway... this cat thought if anyone was going to rip up that kid, it was going to be her.”

“If your children do not see that you have forgiven their own parents, it will be much more difficult for them to forgive you and.....every parent has something to be forgiven for. My guess on this is that this mother was always bitter towards her parents too. God bless parents and children who forgive and love each other.”

“I have always felt best with 10 hours of sleep in 24. That's the high end of suggested sleep requirement, but my mother says i was like that from the start. Somebody's got to sleep the high end. I am glad to do it. And... oh, i often have conscious dreams when i am allowed to get enough sleep. Somebody ought to study that relationship.”

“For many centuries it was common in Europe to wake up about three, stay up for two or three hours and then go back to bed. You could get your morning milking done and make the bread, Maybe have a few moments of privacy before the day began. Then you could sleep till morning matins and then back to bed at sundown.”

“A few years ago I worked a motor route in my city delivering bundles of USA Today those were about my work hours. Sleep for 3-4 hours, get up and work for a few hours, come home and eat breakfast and go back to sleep again. It was a great schedule and I always got enough sleep.”
