“News Flash: The HP Tech Page announcement of shutting down its historical comment posting format, (because we want it that way--not) is down from 227 comments to 220. At 6:00am CDT time there were 227 comments, as of 9:30am CDT there are 220... How's the new format working for you HP!! NOT.”

“Two more things: My local paper requires a FB comment, and when I unchecked post on Facebook it posted anyway, and then I was also inundated with others' comments on my news feed. I ended up deleting it from my timeline. And my experience with Facebook, is that it is not any more civil than the world of anonymity--by a long shot.”

“The funny thing is that the Facebook format isn't designed for conversations, it's more like drive by comments. Here we can at least comment directly to a poster, without 200 other people thinking they were the target of the comment.

My facebook is to stay in touch with out of state family and friends and share photos--that's it. I hate talking about current events on Facebook. For one, not many people are well-read and informed, so I'm not really interested in their "opinion" nor, taking the time the educate--gave up on that long before Facebook. Here one can scroll and roll, or have thoughtful conversations. On Facebook with a limited number of "Friends" it becomes Family Feud. NO, thank you.

Cheers. May be I'll see around the Web sometime.”

peacekitten on Jun 1, 2014 at 08:26:15

“totally agreed. the blog entry in the tech section that appeared *today* to inform people about the changeover has the headline of words to the effective of "moving the conversation to where you want it."   it's such a pathetic, bald-faced lie, it makes you wonder just how stupid this site's powers that be think their readers really are.   it's deeply insulting.   i totally agree about the facebook format, conversation isn't even possible.   but like everything else, it's all about money from ad dollars. what's really funny is that this site had an article up a day or two ago urging people to quit facebook.    i have to wonder if ANYBODY on their staff pays attention to anything here besides the bottom line. hopefully we'll run into each other elsewhere.      ”

“I would not have allowed Greenwald to use the information to become wealthy.
I would not have run away.
I would have stood up in court - as did Daniel Ellsberg - and defended my actions and made my case.
I would not be seeking out media spin opportunities.
I would not blaming anyone but myself for my situation.”

“How has he harmed our security and foreign policy? If anything I think he helped it. Simply by proving how easy it is for anyone to walk away with these documents. And that because he did, background checking companies have come under scrutiny, where it is revealed that they fudged nearly 665,000 clearance checks... robo-clearing, if you will.”

“Well, not really, maybe to a certain point but Liberals take it a step further, as in the large soda ban in New York. Yes they all want a measure of control, so in that you are correct, but I was more talking about degree.

Also the Republicans may want more control but usually most want it at the local level and less power at the Federal level and I also tend to think that is better. We are not all the same so one rule fits all at the Federal level seems to me to take away any chance of individuality for the States.”

“A partial truth is a partial lie.

As the self-appointed world policemen, the US government must be held to the same, or higher, standard as the rest of the world community.

Did it ever occur to you, that had Brazil, France, or Germany not enter this dialogue, our domestic issue would have been airbrushed as if it never happened? The outcry from our allies, forced the US governments hand so-to-speak.”

“No, he is trying to scare people and glom on to some more fame/notoriety. What sacrifice? He stole and fled the country. That isn't a "sacrifice", that was criminal behavior. A sacrifice would have been standing up for his alleged principles and good intentions by doing it legally.”

“I think Snowden's disclosures regarding NSA's widespread surveillance of American citizens has already had some positive effects, both in propelling the debate about such surveillance forward and in new legislation designed to curb the scope of that surveillance. I don't have a problem with that at all and I think he would be in a much better position if that were all he disclosed. However, it wasn't. As for "his sacrifice," well that was pretty much his choice, wasn't it?”

“And the difference is what??

Snowden's (and our allies) characterizations..... for now that's all we have, and he has the documents---- to prove it. The rest is super-duper secret.... Demonstrably easily absconded with by any of the 665,000 employees/contractors with falsified background checks. Yes, the US government is suing several of the "contractors" charged with doing background checks.

No time to be emotional or sympathetic.”

Twinz48 on May 29, 2014 at 18:33:55

“"Yes, the US government is suing several of the "contractors" charged with doing background checks." Good. I hope they are successful in identifying all contractors with falsified or faulty background checks and toss them out, no matter how pure their motives may have been for going to work for the government. Perhaps Congress can strip funding for outside contractors and allow the NSA to hire replacements as actual government employees?

However, I am neither emotional nor sympathetic regarding Snowden or his revelations.”

Suffice to say he could tell me that Kate Upton is a tall, attractive, bosomy blue-eyed blonde and I'd still seek a second opinion in the matter.”
