“Ignore all those fancy charts and facts - don't you know that American healthcare is the best in the world!!!!!
Private companies have a choice - improve Americans health or make more profit - which option do you think they take - making money is the American way. Obamacare is a step in the right direction but it is still a terrible system compared to what much of the rest of the world has.”
Ingarose on Oct 3, 2013 at 10:26:52
“Why is Obamacare a step in the right direction, when more people have to feed the private corporations (insurance companies and Big Pharma) through this bill? Even if cost should go down by 1% it will hardly make healthcare affordable for many.”
“The German public have better experience than you of the dangers of a government spying on its own citizens. Maybe you should get off your high horse and heed their words rather than acting as if Hitler is still in charge and that America is the still the land of the free.”
“Erm if I had a few years to live than maybe I would but how can I guarantee I'll have the freedom to whinge and complain about my government in 50 years time?
The US has built a surveillance system that could (if the user so wished) be used to bribe/blackmail politicians, steal business secrets, abuse financial markets and quell any resistance to the government.
Now I don't think the government as a whole would do this, but individuals could abuse this and if the Chinese are as good at hacking as the US often suggests then how long will it be before they have hacked into it and are using the NSA's tools to spy on Americans, American companies and American politicians?”
“Hahaha - he did stop - he now has 'news'papers writing stories with the material he leaked. Snowden doesn't need to be involved anymore, apart from to ensure that journalists aren't releasing non public interest stories that he disagrees with.
Who'd av thunk that Merica had the ability to spy on anyone and everyone and a database full of everyone's communications - I thought only the Chinese played dirty games like that”

“Then you have not really looked at the reality of American history.”
“'If he had thought that he was doing nothing criminal, he wouldn't have left his family, his friends and his girlfriend. If he thought that he wasn't doing anything criminal, why flee to another country and then disappear?'
Maybe he thought that what he did revealed greater criminality than his, secondly, that it was justifiable to himself given his beliefs about the rights of americans and citizens across the world, and finally because the crime of embarrassing the US led to his predicted response (i.e character assassination (which is what you are doing)) and intense pursuit of him for being the whistle-blower beginning a much-needed debate.
This debate, which was impossible to have without Edward Snowden, about what is the correct level of state surveillance to keep people safe & free should be (whatever is decided) be determined by an informed public en-masse.”
“GDP *contracted* last quarter after BILLIONS in cuts to defense spending.
Pauly K has been severely right - has more credibility in his little finger than the GOP has in its entirety and is a far superior economist to anyone you may suggest.
Yes you are right, unemployment is high - but the GOP is far more interested in deficit reduction - which will make unemployment worse (look at Europe). I don't quite get where you stand on this - do you want to solve America's problems - or do you like prefer to shout about people who look at evidence, point out hypocrisy/self interest/lies told by public officials and who get slandered by famous economists such as Brian Farms for their troubles?
Nothing is free - I hope your education was.”

“Right. Because the budget is a mess. And the sequester is around the corner.
I get what you're saying though...
If you take out the bad parts of the GDP report, it would have been fine.
Realise that what this author has told you is not the truth, but manufactured garbage. It sounds like straight forward commonsense but it isn't. Its deceitful, misleading and counts on the simplicity of the message in order to believe it - easy to fall for, but the fact remains it is untrue. There are better solutions to our problems.”
In reality does a house pay itself? Do you raise taxes on your family members? Does daddy keep all of the money because 'he made it?' is the baby daughter a dependent welfare-scrounger? No, no, no, no.
Stop making a pointless, useless analogy and trying to sound clever by using it, it is harmful and doesn't help to solve anything.”

“The US can not spend more than it brings in ad-infinity. Do you think it can?”
Justice Goodyear on Jan 6, 2013 at 14:05:24
“the analogy is exactly the same. It is that simple although politicians would like for you to believe something else.”
“Responsibility involves paying debts your democratically elected congress has already allowed. Responsibility involves finding ways to cut spending without holding the US and world economy to ransom.
The deficit is the size it is due to the recession, which whilst officially over, certainly isn't gone, as a country you have not recovered to where you should be/ where you were before. Whilst unemployment is high, benefits will be high, taxes will be low, hence deficit is high - not because people are lazy scroungers - but because there are not enough jobs! Make more jobs in the short term, borrow if you need to, getting people off benefits/back paying taxes, your deficit will fall. When people are back at work start cutting spending sensibly, even welfare, and start saving for the next recession. If you get this far, be wary of a Republican president spending all that money on wars and tax breaks for the wealthy.”
Ice4you on Jan 4, 2013 at 11:38:44
“Yes we will never get our deficit down if we elect another trigger happy republican president.”
Aaron Moynahan on Jan 4, 2013 at 10:26:13
“If would be nice if the democrats when asked for a budget plan would stopped acting like eight-year-olds by claiming sticking to a plan is like being extorted and paying ransom. The recession certainly is gone since this is the state when the experts say it's gone based on evidence. As far as jobs go, we just elected the wrong guy if that were the key issue. Anyway, we in normal America just want to see a plan with budget targets, is that too much for the democrats to handle? God help us if it is.”
“Hi Alan, sorry for taking so long to respond and point out your very dodgy facts.
You said: "There was a working population of some 61 million people in 2009 so 60000 disgruntled people should be ignored. I was born and bred in England"
Do you live in the same England as me because there sure has heck hasn't ever been a working population of 61m in this country. Unless you think my 90 yr old gran should still be working and that my unborn child should have started her shift at the checkout already you are a few 10s of millions out!”
“Wait a minute, if 47% of citizens don't pay tax, doesn't that mean that Republicans have done a great job in cutting peoples taxes so much that they don't pay tax!
Oh wait a minute - its only the taxes of rich people that they want to cut. If poor people have their taxes cut to zero that is bad. If Mitt Romney's tax rate is zero, we are in dreamland, Mitt will shower the people with jobs and riches.
I love the hypocrisy and the brilliant, terrific lies told by the GOP.
