“As long as the Electoral College continues to exist, one person/one vote is an American myth. The Electoral College decides who is president...not the popular vote. There are currently 24 (?) electors who are not required by law to cast their electoral vote in accordance with their state's popular vote. Buy off a few electors and Republicans can make certain that (R)money gets "his turn" and that the White House is, once again, white.

Both the Electoral College AND Citizens United must be abolished so that We, the People have a real voice in determining our future.”

“Roberts, Alito, Thomas and Scalia are four perfect examples of why Supreme Court justices should NOT be appointed for life. These men are not judges upholding the U.S. Constitution, they are prostitutes selling themselves to the highest bidder.

Citizens United is nothing short of a failed covert operation affording wealthy investors worldwide the opportunity to buy U.S. elections and to sway our nation's trade and foreign policies in a manner favoring their interests.

Voters in every state should be allowed to make the decision as to whether this travesty goes or stays! If this is denied, Republicans can no longer claim that they support states' rights.”

“Southwest Ranches and Pembroke Pines dodged a bullet. Here in Texas, we have more for-profit correctional facilities than any other state. According to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, more than half of all privately operated county jail beds are empty.

Prisons and jails built for profit seem to be good for two things only; generating debt for the communities that build them, and creating misery for the people who are locked up in them.

Please read the attached article to gain a good idea about what is happening. If it doesn't infuriate you, you are probably a contributor to ALEC:

Commented Jun 14, 2012 at 15:50:36 in Politics

“I can tell you what Sheldon Adelson IS buying with $36.5 million. He, the Koch brothers, and other wealthy Republicans are pooling their money and using it to buy electoral votes. They are not going to leave "Obama One Term" to chance!

There are electors in 24 states who are not pledged by law to cast their electoral vote for the presidential candidate who wins the popular vote. Make certain the electors in these states know that their electoral vote cast for Romney will earn them $1 million (or whatever their asking price) and it is guaranteed, before the general election ever takes place, that Obama will not be re-elected.

In exchange for their money, Adelson and the Koch brothers receive legislative carte blanche. Does anyone doubt that establishment of an American corporate oligarchy is the endgame of Citizens United?”

Joseph Scott on Jun 14, 2012 at 16:37:19

“Or, possibly it's the expression of an already near-complete end game....a plutocracy.
ALEC told us what the score would be from now on....they are the ones that spread Stand Your Ground Laws around the states like a virus.

And they are taking the advice of the law, and Zimmerman's example, albeit metaphorically.
Which is?

Well, the gloves are off, first of all. We already know that.

But what they're saying now is STAND YOUR GROUND, GET IN A CIRCLE, KIDS, AND COMMENCE FIRING.

America is becoming a circular firing squad.

Talking people out of their own interests is the genius of the American aristocracy.”

Texas voters have first hand experience which comes from living in a state where the Republicans rule the roost.

The Hispanics have very few objections to allowing gays to marry, and I think that Cruz's homophobia will end his political career.”

“Age discrimination is rampant in Texas. While employers will tell you that they value older workers, they are waiting for the ones they currently have to retire and aren't interested in hiring any additional. If you remove age references from your resume, employers will use a Facebook or LinkedIn photo to determine how old you are.

If you are age 55 or older, good luck finding anything other than part time or temp employment with no benefits. Texas employers don't want to cover the increased cost of health care insurance.”
