“Please never, ever use a capital C when describing these thugs. They have nothing to do with Christ or his teachings. If anything, Christ would be described as a communist. For those who don't know what communism means: a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole. The definition via a dictionary adds or to the state, but Jesus believed in community. I have never understood how some modern American Christian sects equate capitalism with Christianity. Delusional I suppose. No actually, it comes from Calvinism. LOL!”

All unions (SEIU in this case) did was get a president elected who conned them. Can't wait for this HC "reform" to tax the hell out of those union benefit plans!”

“From the article: "Clinton ended his presidency with a budget surplus. But it soon was wiped out by a sagging economy, the Iraq war, GOP tax cuts and the lapsing of the pay-as-you-go restrictio ns."
How quickly they, we, forget. George W. Bush, his administration, and the Republican Congress wiped out the surplus. The economy wasn't really all that sagging until 9-11. You remember. The attack George pretended or ignored that was coming. Lied into the Iraq War. Disclaimer: I never bought into that bull and opposed it (lot of good that did). Tax cuts that were for the wealthy not you and m. Pay-as-you-go? Hahaha! The Republicans never say a deficit they didn't like as long as they were doing it. You know put the country so much that all those pesky social programs like Social Security, Medicare, unemployment compensation, education, and so for get cut or eliminated. FYI: The ten year cost of health care reform is less than we spend on defense-war in one year. Of course, George didn't want to raise the pay or benefits to military personnel, but he never met a contractor he didn't like. Ye gads and little goldfishes! I felt like I was living in "The Godfather" for eight years.”

“Just to add a little to your good post. The actuary was not permitted to tell the true costs of Medicare part D to congress, Medicare is not permitted to negotiate for lower prices, people from the Bush administration got fired for telling the truth about the costs for the Iraq war, including the general who said more troops would be needed. There are so many lies we need to remind ourselves of.”

Well, at least we have boots on the ground now.
With the taxes for health care (oh wait, isn't actually insurance we're reforming. ..those bad, bad people) kicking in in 2010 and a large chunk of the benefits promised some years in the future, I'm not so sure this is so much better.
That might explain why senators sought exemptions from the cost of it for their states before voting for it.”

“Members of Congress are OUR employees. Unfortunately, when they fail their performance evaluations, they still keep their jobs. The only way we can ever get our country back is through strict regulation of lobbyists, term limits and publicly funded campaigns. One more thing is to make it law that corporations do not have person hood in any way, shape or form. It doesn't matter what your political persuasion might be, this is our country, but right now we are living in one owned and operated for the benefit of corporations and the very wealthy elite.”

“Actually, I've waiting for this from Mr. Sullivan for over three years. As I've watched him to the TV machine, his reaction to the Republican Party and modern conservatism in general made me chuckle, albeit a sad chuckle. I often have wondered if he really understood that modern conservatism and the Republicans, as well as many Democrats, are owned and operated by corporations. As that liberal philosopher Frank Zappa said (paraphrased), "You think you're free. You think you live in a democracy. Try going against the status quo, and then you'll see the truth. There is neither freedom nor democracy in the United States."”

“drumsgirl, I apologize for the "religious" part of the comment. Medicare and Social Security are successes as far as most people are concerned. My generation is the first to pay for their own SS and Medicare. Medicaid is also a success. I don't think any of these programs are abused that much. I do think that the FICA tax should not be capped on income over $90,000. You should read or perhaps re-read US history before these programs were instituted. It isn't a pretty picture. What I'd really like to see end that really is a terrific failure is corporate welfare in the US.”
