“"the only son of God"

Whose God are you talking about? Buddhism is a non theistic religion.”

Penny Shreve on Jun 5, 2014 at 22:00:17

“To say that there is not one supreme God is tantamount to our culture's view that there is no absolute truth; that all is subjective…"your truth is your truth." But there is no truth apart from objectivity, and there is no God apart from exclusivity. Only the God of the Bible sent His son to take care of mankind's sin issue (could sin stand against a holy God? I think not!). And only His son, Jesus Christ, was resurrected from the dead. Only the God of the Bible claims this exclusivity, and only Jesus settled the sin issue and defeated death, hell and the grave. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father, but by me."”

“You are correct that Jesus of Nazareth was one of the prophets; although he is not the only one. Don't for get His Holiness the Dalai Lama lives in our age.”

Penny Shreve on Jun 4, 2014 at 22:48:49

“There is no one beside Jesus, as he was and is the only son of God, the only mediator between God and man. Faith in Him, in His death, burial and resurrection, is mankind's only hope to spend eternity with God. The Dalai Lama is a mere man. Influential, yes, but he is not God incarnate, and he cannot, did not, will not pay the price for our sins, nor will he conquer death, hell and the grave. Only Jesus did that.”

“I don't care if it is a long or a short gun; anyone carrying a loaded firearm into a family friendly restaurant is just a dipsh1t as far as I am concerned. I was in a very nice restaurant a few weeks ago and the man sitting at the table next to me, a local real estate agent, was wearing a pistol on his hip. I thought it was appalling and in extremely bad taste.

A couple of days later I was talking to a young couple who were looking for a house in our neighborhood. They started talking about real estate agents and how hard it was to find a good one, so I mentioned the gun nut in passing. They told me that they had already met with him but were so turned off by him carrying a firearm that they moved on to another agent. They pointed out that if this guy needed a firearm to protect himself, they weren't interested in spending any time with him.”

“I had a friend, I repeat HAD, that was a real estate agent. She was murdered one day showing a house to a man. I so wish she would of had a gun that day to protect herself from the very person she was there to assist. We may all need protection one day and that does not have anything to do with if you should spend time with them. These days are not safe days. I hope that if you are ever in a public place like a school, a theater, or a restaurant and ugly comes a knockin , that there will be someone who has protection on them and they can save your life. But I do agree, there is no need for a person to carry a long gun with them to eat.”

Mary Eyer on May 24, 2014 at 10:05:55

“And yet there were probably a dozen people in the restaurant carrying weapons you couldn't see. I know female agents who carry guns in their purses because an empty house or an open house is an invitation to crime. Don't get me wrong, I think carrying those military style rifles into a public place is in fact a threat of violence. But if you think there aren't people in a restaurant with concealed carry weapons then you aren't really thinking things through.”

telvis55 on May 24, 2014 at 05:20:27

“Are you just assuming they are loaded? Or is that for dramatic effect for the story?”

Griznet on May 24, 2014 at 04:30:34

“I totally agree because these carry laws have made it less safe for everyone, including those carrying. The loose screws have been handed a means to intentionally or accidentally harm someone else or be harmed themselves with foolish bravado. No one needs to carry a gun unless they are going hunting or target shooting at a range.”

bradfromearth on May 24, 2014 at 02:19:23

“Lets not forget that concealed carry was passed in Texas BECAUSE OF A MASS KILLING AT A RESTAURANT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby's_massacre#Aftermath

Harris county has the largest concealed carry population of any state. Personally I will not go to any business establishment that is so arrogant as to tell me that I do not have a right to defend myself and my family on their premises.

And as for Sandy P. Why don't you put a "no guns allowed" sign in your front yard if you feel so strongly about the issue.”

Also, if I were in a restaurant and someone came in publicly carrying a firearm (especially a long gun like they were speaking of in the article, as well as a publicly visible handgun), I'd have to leave. Sorry, NRA and 2nd amendment supporters, I don't care to sit there having to decide if this is someone standing up for their gun rights or if there's about to be a massacre by a deranged person.”

“open carrying at your business makes a statement as its a divided issue. It will make you friends, it will make you enemies because its a very sharp line in the sand. “Well I don"t advocate going back to the wild west days of gun play and fast draw fights - BUT, here is a story about a friendy restaurant -- this was on news a few years ago -- Mother and daughter went inside a friendly nice restaurant ( the daughter was an expert shot at target range and had a gun in her purse but left purse in the
car) a few minutes later a gunman came into the restaurant and started shooting and killing people at random - he killed the Mother - later the daughter told Police she had a dead straight aim at the shooter and could have saved her Mother and others but she left her gun in the car ---- so much for any SAFE PLACE”

“"They pointed out that if this guy needed a firearm to protect himself, they weren't interested in spending any time with him"............so if you approached this young couple while they're stopped at a traffic light and stuck a gun in their face, do you suppose they would maintain the view stated in the story?”

MountainPenelope on May 23, 2014 at 19:09:46

“Free market. Isn't that what these right wingers are always spouting?

So, go ahead and carry guns - including your AK-47s or AR-15s. I Reserve the right to not do business with you. I will also avoid any restaurant or bar or other public business that welcomes firearms inside.”

Ice9 on May 23, 2014 at 18:45:29

“You got some of the predictable responses from people who feel the need to always have a gun with them, but I think they are missing the point. When people go into a nice restaurant they don't expect to see people in ratty smelly clothing sitting around belching. Some decorum is expected and all of those dinning in that establishment have agreed in principle that they will observe some manners. The management reserves the right to ask rude people to leave, simply to preserve their business for the rest.

Having guns present suggests the possibility that deadly violence could occur suddenly and that is disruptive to a good dining experience. Given the choice I would prefer to sit in the No Guns Section.”

vigilantemind on May 23, 2014 at 18:25:38

“I no longer live in a gun crazy state, but I used to, and whenever I saw someone packing a weapon I would quietly tell the restaurant that I didn't feel comfortable eating there while someone was armed next to me. Many times, they would ask me to stay and tell the other person to please put their weapon in their car. Most of them were very accomodating... and some of them had a horrible temper, which as far as I was concerned completely validated my complaint, because someone with a hot temper shouldn't be armed.”
