Obama's Dover Salute Is an Iconic Image of His Presidency

“One of the rare Presidents of our time, who takes his oath of office seriously and truly cares about soldiers and their families.
He is right to withold his decision to send more troops to Afghan. Our goal should be to turn over the running of their country to them. U.S. troops currently out-number the Taliban 12 to 1.
Future plans should include working with UN forces to destroy Al Queda AROUND THE WORLD.
They have cells in many countries. The Bush admin. tied us up in two countries for 8 yrs.”

Get Off Obama's Back: Second Thoughts From Michael Moore
Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 18:05:03 in Politics
“Michael's article reflects the thoughts of a lot of people. When Pres. Obama won the election he stressed the fact that it would take time to right the wrongs of the past 8-plus Bush years.
I am disappointed to see some of his "supporters" buy into the GOP propaganda, complaining that he should have fixed the mess Bush left behind, after 9 months in office1 These voices belong to the "I hope he fails" chorus.
When he won he asked us to roll up our sleeves because all hands were needed "on deck" to right our sinking ship. We need to be active like the people in your documentary, or like Keith Olberman and the free health clinics.
We need to attack the GOP and Blue Dog Dems. (and corporate lobyists) who are the obstacles blocking his agenda.
We need to stay FIRED UP and keep going. That's what the right-wing machine is trying to destroy with their lies and propaganda. People Power are their biggest fear. Obama has crashed the "Country Club Wealth Orgy" made up mostly of old white European men.
And yes Pres. Barcack Hussein Obama (the grandson of a Kenyan man whose name he carries .. and who also spent time in jail for opposing British colonial tax laws in his country) deserves the Nobel Prize for becoming the first African-American president, in a country that flourished on slavery and Jim Crow. He inspired the world and showed us all the best in humanity.”

“The racists in our country will put a negative spin on everything Obama. The truth is, he has inspired the world, especially young people, to work together for change.
The white-controlled-corporate media are indulging in their usual hatefest. Obama is a threat to the status quo. His campaign for president was something they could not control. The media propaganda war that they are waging has not dented his popularity ... here or abroad.
After his speech a few minutes ago, on the Nobel prize ... on every network we saw Republican talking-heads spinning the negative. Todd, Gibson, the pretty female airheads on cable news et. al.
I had my TV on mute before and after his speech. I rely on Huff. post and The Nation for news!
He is an entity they cannot control and that scares them. This is a fight between the have-nots and the wealthy "Power Elite". With God on his side ... "The meek shall inherit the earth".”

Obama Losing Support Among Democrats
Commented Sep 02, 2009 at 17:43:03 in Politics
“If Obama fails it will be due to Senators and Reps. who care more for their pockets than for the people who voted for them. Obama knew the game before he ran for office (read the Audacity of Hope).
The critical comments written here makes it obvious that many of us realy don't understand the power structure in our country.
This is it:
1. Wealthy Power Elite (Old Money, Bankers, Oil Barons, Drug & Insurance Corps.)
2. Senators, Reps. (Many, especially in the GOP) come from the above group or are associated in some way.
3. The President - He has to fight all the above to win crumbs for the masses.
Our country has had this structure since Europeans arrived here and decided that a small aristocratic group should control the wealth. The real fight is between the aristocrats and the peasants. Obama, bless him, is Robin Hood. He needs our support not desertion.”

Obama is Robin Hood? Puleeeze. His policies have only continued Bush's: unprecedented transfer of wealth FROM the middle class and poor to the super rich (that's the plutocracy in action, VTya). The bailouts and the accelerated militarization in Afghanistan and continued occupation of Iraq - all good oligarchic work for the plutocracy, with much harm to the rest.
Be very careful about falling for another "Cult of Personality" rather than really doing your duty as an American citizen which is to hold our leaders accountable for what they DO, not what we WISH they would do.”

“VTya, it's not about voting Republican nor is it about cleaning up after Bush-Cheney in 8 months. Our nation, and the world, will be cleaning up after Bush-Cheney for YEARS to come. It IS about Obama's abandonment of principals upon which most of us voted for him and abandoning them without any fight at all. He caved even before the battle got going and it is because of his ineffectual leadership that the opponents’ propaganda got traction. By the way, he campaigned on what most Americans WANTED: single payer "Medicare for All", not this new-speak of "public option", and even that is reportedly being abandoned! There were REASONS we voted for him and the opportunities to ACT on those reasons are NOW, not later. We did not vote for him to embrace Republican “status quo” and call it “reform”. He had everything necessary to make change, but he is squandering it. It has only taken him 8 months to show that he is weak, ineffectual and squandering a precious moment in history. We don't want more speeches - written for him, read from a teleprompter, delivered with charm and that beautiful smile - we want ACTION, COMMITMENT and ENGAGEMENT and we want him to FIGHT for what he said he believed in, along with us ! We will fight along with him, but we are feeling bamboozled as we see him fighting AGAINST us and alongside Republicans, in support of corporate power! Is that what you voted for?”

President Obama's campaign and his victory as President has uncovered what was once a hidden secret about our media. It has always been used for political propaganda (read the Nixon papers!) Now it is mostly controlled by the Right. Network owners are Republican. Ted Turner regrets selling CNN.
During the Bush reign of the past 8 years we have seen journalists with integrity removed and replaced by highly paid right-wing picks. Remember the days of Peter Jennings (d.), Ted Kopel, Phil Donahoue? The last two dared to show the true cost of the Iraq war.
As for Chris Mathews ... he is paid 30 million a year! Like many others he will have anyone on his show who can raise his ratings! When did journalists start to be paid in millions? Who are all these women who look like models reading the "news" and giving opinions? Who's hiring them?
This is a good topic for Michael Moore to investigate.”

“For the record Chris doesn't claim to be a journalist. He said he has a show where he gives his opinion and he gets paid for that. I can respect that. let me know up front. I think he is one of the smartest commentators on TV. He knows the history of this country.”

sadly there is no solution. it's too late for that. those with power are not likely to give it up.
the days of real journalists is dead. Phil Donahue last and courageous attempt signaled its demise and last fateful gasp.
what else is there to say. Journalism RIP.”

“Cheyney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Bush et al committed so many crimes ... Why aren't they behind bars?”
