Blame it All on the Umpires
Commented Oct 24, 2009 at 18:28:12 in Entertainment
“Instant replay? Bah! What I would like to see is a little more consulting between umps on the field. The play the other day when two Yankees were floating off third base (hell of a funny play) then the third baseman tagged them both out is a perfect example. I mean everybody in the stadium knew both those guys were out. Certainly another ump could have trotted over and said "you missed that one, buddy," and it's a double play.
Of course, a couple of plays later Swisher (one of my least favorite players in the game) was called out for leaving the base early after a fly ball when he clearly did not. That's the thing, these things tend to balance themselves out. Part of the beauty of the game.”

I personally prefer missile defense against those who are our enemies, by positioning them closer to the Middle East, than to continue fighting a cold war against Russia that ended almost 20 years ago. And if we can build a relationship with Russia in so doing, more the better.
See? You (and Hannity) are simply wrong on all points.”

“Wrong on everything. Why must you right-wing extremists lie about everything? Why do you hate America?
We close Gitmo when we determine where the detainees go. Some are totally innocent and will be returned to their countries. Others will be held in maximum-security prisons in the US. Our prisons are the best and most secure in the world. Why do you distrust them so?
We extend civil rights and due process because we are a civilized country. Only barbaric countries hold prisoners outside the scope of the Red Cross and without due process. We're civilized. We're supposed to set the standard for the rest of the world. Evidently you want to go by the same rules as places like Iran and Somalia.
"Enhanced interrogation" IS torture. It is illegal in our country and in the civilized world. To make it public is to begin to make amends for the illegal activities of the previous administration. Again, you prefer the moral standards of places like Libya and Syria where torture is legal? For shame.
Civilized countries extend hands of friendship. If then they are slapped, then we hit them hard. You would prefer, I guess, like in uncivilized countries, to begin with a slap.”

Comparatively, Gitmo is club med. Iran's been slapping for years.”

Taking the Movement Out of the Obama White House

“It puzzles me why people think Obama is a "progressi ve." Didn't anyone actually listen beyond the soaring rhetoric of the campaign? Didn't anyone read his position papers? He's middle-of-the-road, a traditional Democrat in every way. He is NOT Dennis Kucinich, never tried to be, never gave that impression.
But liberals wanted him to be a progressive so that's what he became. Conservatives wanted him to be a socialist, so that's what he is perceived to be.
His skin color, perhaps, disguises a pretty traditional corporate Democrat, making us think he's something he's not.
I'm not particularly disappointed, because I knew what he was from the beginning. I supported him because he was the most electable Democrat. I hope that, just as G.W.Bush was the logical extension of Reaganism, that in 10 or 15 years someone like Kucinich will be President, and we will be truly progressive and can rejoin the community of civilized (socialist) countries.”

Palin Popularity Plunging in Polls
Commented May 08, 2009 at 18:19:07 in Politics
“Republicans like her have nothing to contribute at all. Their "popularity" is 100% marketing and image promotion, like any celebrity. They hook onto their big sellers (abortion, guns, taxes) and pound away at them every day.
But they have nothing. No philosophy beyond the acquisition of power. They don't understand the constitution or the country.
Because many, many Americans are remarkably uneducated, prejudiced and addicted to television, the GOP is successful in their marketing venture, up until it all falls apart. Which is why Obama is president and Palin is paling.”

And by the way, folks, let's not forget that they've been giving out that oil-company rebate of $1000 since the 80's. Palin had absolutely nothing to do with it. Some accomplishment.
Finally, an answer to one of your questions, about standing up to special interests like brave Gov. Palin? I know you're not interested in honest answers or else you already would have gone to Obama's website to find out for yourself. So I did it for you; just one example:
"Federal Ethics Reform: Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law. The Washington Post wrote in an editorial, "The final package is the strongest ethics legislation to emerge from Congress yet."”
