First off, you can't build a party on the mantra of DEREGULATION and then be surprised when wall st. turns a home loan into a toxic asset that cripples the entire system.

Secondly, if your going to blame the recession on the "Wall Streeters little insurance scam", then it's a little silly to be suggesting that the government simply lower taxes and get out of the way. Government regulation is the only hope of avoiding that situation.

Lastly and most importantly, what good is it having lower taxes and less regulation, WHICH WE JUST HAD, if it can't stop a meltdown like we're experiencing now? If it worked it would have just proven itself to be a sustainable model, even in the wake of a crisis in the housing sector.
