What Israel Can Teach the World About Airport Security

“Militarizing civilian society has always been a concern, and sd. be, or the American public. Furthering the militarization of pulblic facilities also perpetuates and endless war scenario that is simply as concerning as attacks and the rest of insanity going on.
Airport security in coordination with increased immigration controls/scuitiny clearly needs to be establishe d/.increas ed/refined . The def. concern is , a long host of issues need to addressed/ increased. I have very little faith, if any, going into an airport, flying. Controling who is granted entry to this country-by any means and regardless of country of origin-is an element of security concerns/remedies.
Perhaps a concern that is of greater concern is the level of hate being directed towards specific countries and how that hate has resulted in creating generations of people willing to blow themselves.
The probelms being faced are greater than machine guns can fix. Perhaps certain folks might like to consider the influence of a militarized society upon themselves, those around, and how all of it has added up to a planet full of violence and hate.
The US can and sd. try to be better better than machine guns and resorting to tactics which contribute to a militarized society.
I lived on military bases for 18 years and the more things continue in this direction the more I see this country looking more and more how it looked on the other side of the barbed wire fence.”

“The first rule for any society is to survive. The second rule of a democratic society is to maintain its principles. Marrying the two can be a challenge. It is impossible to reach a solution to any problem when one party to the conflict absolutely refuses to countenance the survival of the other.
This, indeed, is the dilemma we face today.”

“I am very sorry for what happened to you as well as my lack of clearity.
My premise about indocrinated was def. a poor choice of word but the iintent was that there seems to be some out there that still advance the notion that, "you are a woman-girl -female-me n, others will protect you."
In the same way that people have to be taught how to stand up for themselves, in the way kids today are taught to "fight bulliles", there seems to be a way to teach females to protect themseves on a number of levels.
I certainly do not blame the victim and want to make that clear. I know a lot of men including my self who really try to go above and beyond and make efforts in regards to females and with their children. I my self have been in more than one fist fight on the street as a result of male behavior towards females. One involved a knife and being threatened to be killed. “Thanks but I disagree on the victim mentality until they are victimized.
I see both boys and girls being raised by parents who are basically creating victims.
"Honey, you can't do that cause you are a girl" sort of crap. Or with little boys, treating them as babies-have a sister in law who calls their twin sons, "babies" and they are about 6-7. As a result they act as babies.
My girls just wrote a list-typed it out for them-"house rules"-because they already consider them "babies." They are coming to visit in a few days.
The list is as follows:
Treat others the way you would like them to treat you.
Hands are for helping not hurting.
No screaming.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
No Running
No Horse Play
No Shoving
No Bragging
Don't be boss
Don't throw your stuff on the floor, clean up after yourself.
They recently told me these twin boys have hit them while visting them, I was not there.
I have instructed them if they are unable to run away, to take the hockey stick, hit them with it, to hit them in the nose.
Children are indocrinated to be a victim or not in my opinion and to take control of their environment. The little list was a step in advancing this cause.
Better judged by 12 than carreid by six is what I say.”

“How is someone "indoctrinated" to be a victim? No victim of crime is such because they wanted to be or were trained to be, they were simply the object of someone else's violence.
I was raised to be a very strong, independent woman, but that didn't stop me from being a victim of rape. Nor did it help most of my female friends who were raised the same way and became victims of abuse and/or rape. No matter how strong a woman is, she cannot overpower a male physically and weapons are useless if you don't see someone coming at you.
This is about testosterone. Women are not less "evil" than men, but they are not as violent, because of testosterone.
I'm afraid that the best we can do is to teach our children to respect others, to try and set good examples for them, and hope that they will never be in a situation where they become victimized. Blaming the victim of a crime of violence is almost as bad as being the perpetrator. It is making me sick to see how many posts there are in reply to this article which do exactly that. Very few of these replies contain any empathy, but too many blame the victims. Shame on those of you who are doing so.”

“As a father of two females, it is my job to raise two less victims-on all levels.
My remedies are pretty straight forward. On a physical level, they are being raised in such a way that they are being introduced to all things physical that males are expected to do. Spec. on the physical developement level, they run, swim, do exercises to develope their upper bodies. When they are a bit older, will be introduced to various forms of martial arts/self defense/and eventually weapons/and yes firearms. Depending upon 911 or others is a joke. Survial skills come in various forms.
Of equal importance, on the economic level, advanced degrees, to be financial independent/to be able to protect themselves/to be aware of the realities of male behavior/to be able to survive regardless of the conditions. I think it is a combonation of these skills/experiences that will be necessary in order to educate, inform, and train females so as to prevent such violence against them.
A victim menatlity is the worst thing a male or female can have. By empowering the young women
I brought into this world, I will be able to help reduce the possability of them experience the fate other have expeienced and in turn help others, to give them a fighting chance.
If one behaves as a victim, you will be treated as a victim, is what they will be told.”

Imagine my surprise when I reached puberty and found there were things I was not allowed to do based on my gender (like play baseball or professional sports), or working at a job where I was "allowed" to train the new employees (which I loved doing) but the new male employees were instantly promoted to managers. I don't think anyone develops a victim mentality until they are victimized.”

Jack, lets be fair. My copy of the DSM IV-R is now in storage. Please tell us how many many of those symptoms for PPD must apply BEFORE a diagnosis of PPD is affirmed.

Was U.S. Soldier Who Killed Two Army Buddies Shattered by Iraq Tragedy?

“Really does not matter what I think.
He will most likely get life in Levenworth.
I do think all returning combat vets sd. be sent to a place like the US Virgin Islands,( San Padre, somewhere very laid back and Peaceful) to a medical "resort" for a period of time where they can be observed for a period of time, evaluated, and then transitioned into their communities.
It seems such that some folks do not understand how men and women who have been pulling a trigger for years-multiple tours-have a real dif. time transitoning back into the civilian world. A friend who returned from Iraq was not interested in going outside without a weapon.
I remember family and others returning from Vietnam. Some were better than others but they all had that "look" in their eyes and as a kid, that "look" would scare the hell out of me.
My father never hit me after returning from Vietnam-a couple of tours-all he had to do was "look" at me. I was an exception I knew more than one kid on the base who would get their ass kicked by their father regularly.
Vets deserve some time on an island with there families to decompress, exercise the violence and death. Fact is, all these Vets will bring the war back home with them and it is the responsibility of this country to help them.”

“"...Leaven worth."
I agree with that, and I would agree with the rest of the stuff, but it just ain't gonna happen. It was never that way, and I don't expect it to start now.
Our youth just have to accept the fact that they are nothing more than cannon fodder, if they decide to be involved in this war. This is an all volunteer army, so one has no one to blame for what happens to them, except themselves. I'm sorry, but that is the reality of it.
As far as I'm concerned, someone who serves and survives, should get a million dollars, and those who do not survive, their families should get 2 million dollars.
That seems like a fitting payback for people who go out and defend our country, while the rest of us sit back home and luxuriate. Incidentally, I did honorably serve.”
