Schmidt Calls Palin's Memoirs "Total Fiction"
Commented Nov 15, 2009 at 00:04:12 in Politics
“I'll give you one: That Obama "was palling around with terrorists."
For this to be true, Obama would need to have several friends who, at the time, had a part in some type of terrorist activity. This clain was based on the fact that he once associated withone perso, William Ayers, who was part of a terrorist group long before Obama knew him. Clearly, this is a lie.”

“Was it really a bunch of missteps by other people that made Palin look so bad? Are we really to believe that she's actually a competent, worldly, smart leader, who was just made to took bad?
If we were to believe this, it would do her some good to show positive evidence of her capabilities, rather than trying to discredit all the bad press she has recieved.”

Palin-Bachmann Syndrome™
Commented Nov 13, 2009 at 02:54:09 in Media
“I love the Beck video with Bachmann complaining that the census form doesn't contain questions about citizenship, which would allow the government to find illegal immigrants. And then she complains that the government could use census information against the people who filled out the forms.
First of all, no one would admit on a census form that they are an illegal alien. Second, why would she want the government to know how many aliens are in the US, unless it were going to use that information against them?”

“The Census has been around for 200 years or more and has never asked about citizenship. All it is concerned with is the number of people in the USA.
All this shows is how ignorant Bachmann and Beck are and how they will cling to anything to create an atmosphere of conspiracy.
The more I see and hear these people, the more pathetic they become.”

Many Issues With Tragedy at Ft. Hood -- A "Muslim Problem" not One of Them, FOX News
Commented Nov 07, 2009 at 19:45:32 in Media
“I didn't see the Fox News broadcast at issue here, but I bet they didn't mention that the suspect in the shootings was said to have faced discrimination due to his Muslim heritage. Maybe they could have speculated about whether discrimination, like the type the Fox bunch suggested here, was what caused this guy to snap and go on a shooting spree. Maybe anti-Muslim attitudes like those of Fox's opinionators is part of the problem.”

“I find it amazing that anyone is upset about this percieved change in the meaning of the word "marriage," even with the word's religious connotations. Did the faithful take to the streets and the airwaves to protest the Conservative Bible Project for altering the word of god? Nor do people reject the legal idea of common-law marriage either, which is another type of appropriation of the religious concept of marriage that certainly is detatched from its religious signifigance.
I think that religion may be a part of the opposition to gay marriage, but I think that it's fair to say that hypocracy is a part of it as well.”

“"The odds are astronomically against everything happening exactly right. So the question is, is it dumb luck?"
The question assumes that everything did happen exaclty right, but there is no way of knowing whether conscious life could have developed in some other form if the laws of nature were different.
But, this is beside the point. If tthere were a creator that set the conditions to be so perfect for our existence, who was there to set the conditions for the creator's existence?”

Where are the Screaming Liberals?
Commented Oct 01, 2009 at 02:09:44 in Politics
“I agree, people on the left in the US are bad at making noise. It's so bad that over the past few years, the religious right has labeled outspoken athiests, such as Christopher Hitchens, "militant atheists" for speaking their minds in public. They aren't actual militants ready to kill for their ideas like Islamic or Christian militants, they just argue. If socially liberal people are seen as militants just for talking, then liberals don't do enough arguing.”

New Rule: You Can't Complain About Health Care Reform If You're Not Willing to Reform Your Own Health
Commented Sep 20, 2009 at 03:20:40 in Comedy
“The really odd thing is that in America we pay way more than people in other countries do for the same health care, yet we take worse care of ourselves than other people do. And it's not our poor health that drives up costs, that only adds to it. We have every incentive to not stuff our faces with fatty foods, yet we do it anyway, no matter how much it costs us in the end.”

“The reason is because junk food is everywhere. I often had that complaint before leaving Canada. In Japan, convenience stores may not be the best place to get food--they do have a lot of junk food--but they can be a trustworthy source of salads, veggie-based snacks, wholesome meals, and healthy drinks. The number one drink in the coolers isn't soda, but different varieties of unsweetened tea. It's nothing like what I see in Canada (where I do all I can to avoid trans fats and corn syrup). I imagine it's similar in the US.”

“It's amazing how lax food regulation is in the US. Free market fundamentalists push the idea that the markets should determine which goods should and shouldn't be made, not the government. But this means that consumers have to find out what foods are good and bad, and which foods are healthy and which are deadly. It's genearlly known that people do not want products that will harm them, so how bad can a little regulation really be?”
The GOP Is Too Crazy To Be Racist
Commented Sep 17, 2009 at 02:37:51 in Politics
“Yes, the GOP is just a bunch of nuts opposing everything that Obama does. So Obama should seize on this: he should publically annonce his opposition for any idea that he wants to get through Congress. Republican politicians will be tripping over themselves to close Guantanamo, take troops out of Iraq, and establish free universal healthcare.”
The Left Should Reclaim 'Freedom'
Commented Sep 17, 2009 at 01:31:37 in Politics
“Let's not forget the blatant hypocrasy of the Right when it comes to freedom. They favor greater freedom by opposing goverment action in the economy, or larger government (outside of the military). Yet, to them, economic freedom doesn't include the right to purchase recreational drugs or abortion services. Nor do they think that government is limiting freedom when it prevents people from marrying a person of their own gender, or from willifully engaging in sodomy in the privacy of their own home.”
