“Please... stow the arrogance. Being gay is not an issue or a movement. Gay people don't sit around trying to figure out how to turn straight people around. Gays are not ostracized because of their public behavior, but because the straight masses think what we do in private is icky/evil. Every study/poll shows that the more exposure to gay people, not less, the more acceptance we get. “I agree with you. I think its great that he isn't scared it could ruin his career. And his character is dark so I don't think it will anyway.

I guarantee you, more A list stars are going to copy him. After the success of Keifer Sutherland, Glenn Close, Alec Baldwin, Kyra Sedwick, etc. on television shows it only makes sense. Reality TV has taken real actors work and dragged good tv down along with it.

“But is it a question, really, of "God making mistakes"? What does that mean? We all know children are born with all kinds of birth defects. There are children born with both male and female parts. Are those "God's mistakes"? We don't treat children that way who are born with Down's syndrome - we embrace them.

I think being born with a gender identity that doesn't match your body definitely ought to qualify as a birth defect. - the agony that these folks go through when they "feel they're in the wrong body" is a testament to that. I'm just glad for them that there's treatment for it. We correct other birth defects with available medical science, why not this? Why should it be any more stigmatized than any other issue people come to doctors for?

Anyway, this is different from "gay" vs "straight" as he makes clear in the interview. He's STRAIGHT. It just took him so long to come to terms with his identity as a man, that, for a while, he identified as lesbian because he liked women. If you don't identify as a WOMAN, though, you can't really be a lesbian and he came to terms with that.

Good for him. He's blazing a trail to hopefully make it easier for others like him.”
