I agree with everything in your post except this line. This line should read: "Socialism today is enjoyed by no one but the financiers and the wealthiest 2 percent in this country, while capitalism is endured by the rest of us."”

“No, that's not right. He's saying that whatever transgressions one has committed against those who love them, they will need to atone for their behavior and mend that private relationship with the person(s) who have been transgressed against, not you and me, who weren't there and weren't a party to any of the events. It's not up to you to decide who has been transgressed against or what private sexual behaviors between consenting adults is "inappropriate." When you stand in public, accusing and judging others for what you perceive as a "sin", when no one has "sinned" against you, who are you to establish yourself as the enforcer of private sexual morals and ethical behavior, and then engage in the same kind of behaviors that you have condemned others for? You're just another human ape, trying to shame everyone into following you. Jesus hated self-righteousness above all else. "Take the beam out your own eye before picking the splinter out of your brothers." You deserve everything you get for it. By your meddling, self-righteous moralizing, you set yourself up for it.”

And like any good socialist regime, the D.C. partiers, Dem and Rep. oblige them, because they all belong to the same club. And then turn right around to tell the rest of us, too bad, there's nothing left, you'll have to wait, tough love and remember to file your taxes, or else.

“Gore Vidal predicts that the Democrats will loose big time in 2010 and 2012 because they lack a REASON to govern. In his usual revelatory and insightful way, Vidal puts his finger right on the heartbeat of it. They were voted into office for the most part as simply the anti-Bush Party. Typical reactionary politics of the American electorate. They did not come to power as the result of any social movement except for the fear that everyone had over the economic system at the end of 2008. The Dems, always a disorganized, conglomerate of people and interests all over the political map, and politicians who behave like politicians, some honest and some corrupt. The Republicans speak essentially with one voice and have only two ideas as the answer to everything: lower taxes and deregulation of business. Want to clean up the air and water? Lower taxes and deregulate business. Want to end teen pregnancy? Lower taxes and deregulate business. Want to provide health care to all Americans? Lower taxes and deregulate business.”

“It's insane. Terrorism is a tactic, not a place. The "terrorists" want the U.S. out of the Middle East. They want us to take down our military base in Saudi Arabia and to stop siding with the Israelis. They want us to leave Iraq and Afghanistan. They want us to stop aiding and supporting dictators in their countries. They want us to stop killing innocent men, women and children in their countries. They want us to leave them alone. They want us to stop stealing their oil.

But of course, we'll have none of that. We have a President now who at all costs can not appear to be "weak", who must prove his manly swagger and intent to kill everything that moves to prove he's not weak on "defense." We thought we were getting a President who wanted to bring an end to the wars. What we've got is Bush on steroids.”

“To assert that sexual fidelity is "essential to any human relationship" is to believe in fairyland and to cling to a very narcissistic idea of love and commitment.. Monogamy depends on the people involved. Human beings are not, by nature, monogamous throughout a life time. To stomp your feet and pull your hair and insist that they should be isn't going to make them that way. You should stop wasting your time and damaging your emotional self expecting that they will be. Plan for them not to be. That's the road to happiness.”

World Citizen replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 03:05:29

“Not stomping my feet at all or pulling my hair, nor damaging my emotional self. Having fidelity is the opposite of narcissistic. On the contrary, people that have multi partners at the same time are narcissistic. Thank you for using that word. Yes, people like Angelina Jolie are quite narcissistic.”

“Maybe she's doing the right thing by preparing them to lower their expectations when it comes to sexual fidelity. You can rant and stomp and crucify and judge and preach all you want about monogamy, but absolutely none of it has had much impact on human behavior. Perhaps it's more rational to adjust your expectations. If it turns out that you find a partner who in the end was monogamous the whole way through, and you were too, well then good for you. You got lucky.

The "moral" requirements about fidelity have far, far more to do with child bearing and rearing than it does anything else. Men are upset about it because he doesn't want to raise another man's children and women are upset about it because they don't want the father of their children running off with another woman, leaving her to raise them all by herself. That's the evolutionary genesis for sexual fidelity. It makes sense, but there are no guarantees. We ladle all kinds of emotional baggage and ego expectations on top of that, which is the root cause of so much unnecessary misery.”

World Citizen replied on Dec 26, 2009 at 02:53:44

“Life is more simple than the complicated mess that you tried to explained. Children learn from their parents. Fidelity is essential in any human relationship.”

“"Chimps kill other chimps all the time. So I guess that means that we should kill other people because chimps do so as well?"

What planet are you on? Here's my statement of morally neutral fact, again. Human beings are not monogamous, by nature. Now, to your clear-eyed focus about "murder" among Chimps. So humans don't kill each other? What planet are you on? If you've found a planet where human beings are monogamous by nature and do not kill each other, please, for the love God let the rest of us know.

Typically, you confuse statements of fact with moralizing judgments. They are not the same thing and nowhere did I assert or insist that people SHOULD NOT be monogamous. In fact, I said, we can be, but that it isn't "natural" for us to be, over a lifetime.

Don't worry yourself though about what I said, I'm not going to marry you.”

“In terms of evolution, that would be correct. It's the basis for much of our morality surrounding sexual issues. By nature, men don't want to be saddled with expending energy and time caring for the offspring of other male's. In humans, he doesn't want the offspring of other males to fail, he just doesn't want to have to spend time and energy looking after them.

Notice, dear reader, I did not say that human males DO NOT or CAN NOT care for the offspring of other males. Obviously man do for many reasons, but they are not by NATURE so inclined.

The asymmetry between the sexes with regard to sexual behavior is rooted in biology of course, despite what some feminists insist. It's the females who get pregnant and no male can be 100% certain that the fetus growing inside of her carries his genetics. Who's the father? The male's role in the biology of reproduction is over fairly quickly and carries no outward signs of his behavior. There's no mistaking who the mother is.”

I'm DESCRIBING human behavior, not PRESCRIBING it like most people do. I only make the quite rational comment that we should stop filling children's heads up with the EXPECTATION that their partners are going to be monogamous, or that they are. At no point in any thing I wrote did I suggest that we not ENCOURAGE young people or each other to behave monogamously. But only a totally emotional, self-absorbed, narcissist would ASSUME, without question or doubt, that other people are here to protect you from disillusionment about human behavior, your's included, set up by having completely unrealistic EXPECTATIONS.”

“Human beings are not by nature monogamous. Women no more than men. Nothing in our genetics indicates that we are. Our closest relative, the Chimp, is not. However, that said. We can be monogamous, if we genuinely and truly want to be and work at it. We can decide to be monogamous, but over a lifetime, it's the exception rather than the rule. The pain is caused more by the totally blind, fantasized, moralized expectations that one SHOULD be rather than a cold sobering reality based assessment that we just aren't by nature monogamous. We grow up being told to believe such **#*($ about human nature and expectation. That's the cause of all the misery.”

nsmavrik replied on Dec 25, 2009 at 06:03:22

“So since chimps are not monogamous, we shouldn't be. Oh I see.

BTW, you assertion is total BS.

Chimps kill other chimps all the time. So I guess that means that we should kill other people because chimps do so as well?

You see, there is a big difference. We have intelligence and feelings that we can control. You know.... the difference between being an animal and being human. Just because our closely related mammals are into multiple partners or kill each other when they so feel doesn't mean we must.

It is common sense that we don't wish to feel pain, so when infidelity happens to a person that does not feel the same way as their spouse, we shouldn't chalk it up as "oh well. We a born that way." That is a cop out and you know it.

If a couple has no problem with it, fine. But don't chalk it up as to say we are animals like the chimp, because we are not animals. We might have been a long time ago, but we are not now, no matter what trait we share with animals.

If you want to cheat, go ahead and cheat. That is your perogative. However, take responsibilty for your actions instead of claiming you are the victim of being a mammal.”

MadHeart replied on Dec 25, 2009 at 04:58:51

Yes, it did. It's one thing when paid operatives, tr0//s around here, put that out as they have for months and people like me, who kept track of what he said and when, continue to correct the record to prevent these false memes from taking hold. It's another when Obama, himself, is directly involved in the subterfuge. That ends any doubt about the man's character and integrity -- He's got none.

Obama's pretty much been insulated these past few months, letting his surrogates carry the water for his continuing the Bush-Cheney policies. He hasn't faced a press conference in months, not that the worthless media would ask him any of the tough questions that need asking. His comments to WaPo, particularly on the eve of the Senate passing the bill and leaving town for the holidays, seem over-the-top and unnecessarily divulging. I think those opposed to this bill, who want real reform (the left), are stronger and closer to getting it (getting the House to draw a line in the sand and telling Obama to pound rocks) than Obama wants anyone to believe. I can't imagine Obama saying what he said for anything other reason.”
