New Jersey Gay Marriage Bill Fails To Pass
Commented Jan 07, 2010 at 22:35:39 in New York
“In the evolution of human societies, morality precedes religion. Moral codes existed in the West long before the 10 commandments were written. Every human society has a moral code. Morality is not based on religion. Religion is rooted in morality. That is why you can have a person of high moral integrity without a pronounced religious faith. And also how deeply religious people are sometimes morally corrupt. Humans are the moral animal, with or without religion.”

“You're right. Ultimately it's the government who allows these banks to charge these kind of fees and create these kind of financial instruments of greed. I think of all these fees and timing shenanigans as a tax. We elect the pols who make the rules that favor the banks that helps the pols get reelected by us.”
New Jersey Gay Marriage Bill Fails To Pass

“Well hate and ignorance and fear won out again. This time in New Jersey. This truly is a backwards, ignorant, fearful, war mongering nation. The world has every reason to be afraid of us.
I suspect that gay people will eventually win their civil rights through the court system. Clearly the basis for this NJ decision, as all the rest, are based on religious grounds. Marriage licensing has always been a civil, secular, governmental function. For the government to object to applying the laws in a fair and equitable, unbiased way to all of the population for religious reasons is obviously a constitutional violation, as it favors one religion over others.
I also find it odd that the civil rights of gay people are subjected to a popular vote, when no other group has had their civil rights so completely, legally, beholding to the fear and ignorance of the masses.”

How anyone could not immediately understand that all living things on the planet are related, that we all evolved as related beings is beyond me. This kind of information and study is far far more fabulous and wonderful than any "creationist" story. All the animals are our brothers and sisters.”

Does it really, really matter?
I don't care if he was mad at his girlfriend, best friend, his only friend or his IMAGINARY friend...i t's still completely and utterly unconscionable.
You do not physically harm animals. Period.
This man needs to be made THE example of violence against those who can't defend themselves.
EVERYTHING else is inconsequential.”

None of these people, not a single political prognosticator knows anymore about what the deal is going to be come this November than you or I. Elvis knows more.”

“All of you guys must be very young. You've got the analysis down right, which we've known now for almost 30 years, but no insights into how all this is supposed t happen. Just how is it that you propose to enact campaign finance reform? How do you propose to get politicians to vote out a system that got them elected?
One of the things you will learn as you get age is that the truth does not matter. The truth and what is the right thing to do almost never wins out in the end unless it happens to be allied with power. Power is what matters. Money is power. The system is venal and corrupt and all the polished political rhetoric and analysis in the world isn't going to change it. It will take a massive social movement or catastrophic economic upheaval to reshape the system.”

“George Bernard Shaw wrote a play called, "Major Barbara" all about charity work and what it really means. The CrossBack Churches, rather than use their influence and political power to bring about real social reform by challenging systemic economic inequities and the exploitation of the poor and the working poor by the rich and the powerful, actually reinforce and exploit the social and economic order for their own gain. They drain off the energy for reform by promising a better existence on some other plain all the while currying favors and protection from the political and economic powers that keeps the status quo. Then they spend SOME of their money on helping the poor to assuage their consciences for the societal inequities that they help to maintain.”

“No, that's not right. He's saying that whatever transgressions one has committed against those who love them, they will need to atone for their behavior and mend that private relationship with the person(s) who have been transgressed against, not you and me, who weren't there and weren't a party to any of the events. It's not up to you to decide who has been transgressed against or what private sexual behaviors between consenting adults is "inappropr iate." When you stand in public, accusing and judging others for what you perceive as a "sin", when no one has "sinned" against you, who are you to establish yourself as the enforcer of private sexual morals and ethical behavior, and then engage in the same kind of behaviors that you have condemned others for? You're just another human ape, trying to shame everyone into following you. Jesus hated self-righteousness above all else. "Take the beam out your own eye before picking the splinter out of your brothers." You deserve everything you get for it. By your meddling, self-righteous moralizing, you set yourself up for it.”

And like any good socialist regime, the D.C. partiers, Dem and Rep. oblige them, because they all belong to the same club. And then turn right around to tell the rest of us, too bad, there's nothing left, you'll have to wait, tough love and remember to file your taxes, or else.
