“In the evolution of human societies, morality precedes religion. Moral codes existed in the West long before the 10 commandments were written. Every human society has a moral code. Morality is not based on religion. Religion is rooted in morality. That is why you can have a person of high moral integrity without a pronounced religious faith. And also how deeply religious people are sometimes morally corrupt. Humans are the moral animal, with or without religion.”

I suspect that gay people will eventually win their civil rights through the court system. Clearly the basis for this NJ decision, as all the rest, are based on religious grounds. Marriage licensing has always been a civil, secular, governmental function. For the government to object to applying the laws in a fair and equitable, unbiased way to all of the population for religious reasons is obviously a constitutional violation, as it favors one religion over others.

I also find it odd that the civil rights of gay people are subjected to a popular vote, when no other group has had their civil rights so completely, legally, beholding to the fear and ignorance of the masses.”

They drain off the energy for reform by promising a better existence on some other plain all the while currying favors and protection from the political and economic powers that keeps the status quo. It's not up to you to decide who has been transgressed against or what private sexual behaviors between consenting adults is "inappropriate." When you stand in public, accusing and judging others for what you perceive as a "sin", when no one has "sinned" against you, who are you to establish yourself as the enforcer of private sexual morals and ethical behavior, and then engage in the same kind of behaviors that you have condemned others for? You're just another human ape, trying to shame everyone into following you. Jesus hated self-righteousness above all else. "Take the beam out your own eye before picking the splinter out of your brothers." You deserve everything you get for it. By your meddling, self-righteous moralizing, you set yourself up for it.”
