“They did not work just as hard. I know of not a single person who volunteered for McCain. Yet, among my friends I know of many who worked hard volunteering for Obama, and many new friendships have been forged meeting other volunteers. I do know some Republicans, am even related to some, and none of them did any more than send me a few nasty emails full of lies.”
An Open Letter on Prop 8: Enough with the Anti-Black Outrage
Commented Nov 09, 2008 at 14:23:21 in Politics
“With California's black population being less than 10 percent, it seems ridiculous to blame them. Surely the other 90% has more to do with the passing of Prop 8.”
CEKChuck replied on Nov 10, 2008 at 11:24:10
“I do not agree with blaming anybody, but you have a complete misunderstanding of statistics. It doesn't matter what proportion of the black community is part of the population, it matters what proportion voted for the measure.
For every 100 people the voting was something like this:
For Prop 8 Against Prop 8
Caucasian 49 51
Asian 48 52
Latino/a 51 49
African American 70 30
My numbers are off the top of my head, but I know they are not that far off from what was reported. So it doesn't matter if 490,000 whites voted for it if 510,000 whites voted against it. The only thing the smaller number blacks as a part of the whole means is that if they had voted even remotely close to any of the other races this measure would have failed. That doesn't mean blame should be assigned to the black community, but it does underscore where the gay communities civil rights struggle lies.”

“'Blame' is such an impediment in this fight. Instead focus your energy on how you can foster the relationship between G&L's and the black population. 'Blame' will only slow you down. And then, when this war has been won, learn from it and help whoever is next in obtaining their rights to be equal.”

“I am for equal rights for all and think that the legalization of same sex marriages will eventually be passed across the land, just as civil rights for blacks did, and equal rights for women did. It will happen. Tell me this though, if it were an either or, would you choose McCain as your president and gay marraige legal in California, or Obama as your president and a ban on gay marriage in Cali? I believe frimly that we will and can have both, but it seems that in this election we got the latter. Another vote will come up and gay marraige will be legalized.”

McCain-Palin Rally in Anchorage is a Whole Lotta Empty Chairs, Gosh Darnit!

“I was at an Obama Rally in Asheville today. I was one of 200 volunteers, who helped usher in a polite, friendly, though waterless, and bathroom less estimated 28,00 people. It was a last minute ordeal, of sorts, there was supposed to be more water, and porta-johns outside the stadium. Inspite of their lack the crowd stayed happy and enthused. It was a beautiful event!”

“Okay, we have an election, stress level high, add the 'bailout' scare, more stress, and here in Western NC (where Obama has a lead in most recent poll, wahoo!), we have to cue up for gas because of shortage caused by Ike. I spent a total of 4 hours cueing up in three different lines to get enough gas in my work van to get me to Tuesday, $168.00. But I still go to work, trying to save up so I can help the rich. Bah Humbug!”
hp blogger Brett Ashley McKenzie replied on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:29:23
“I am so glad to hear that Obama is up in Western N.C. I am so sorry to hear that you had to pay $168 for gas. When fueling your car costs more than a Banana Republic suit, this country is in ridiculous amounts of trouble.”

“Maybe when he dies, he will "will" his huge estate to the American voters to pay off the increased debt this administration has created, which increases significantly with this so called bailout. This is just another example of wealth redistribution and class warfare, but this clearly is taking from the poor taxpayers to give to the rich. Who is the opposite of Robin Hood? Could it be our own congress, who are supposed to be of, by and for the people?”
