“Theologically, i don't support homosexuality...but this country was built on the foundation of "equality for all" its citizens. This is NOT a religious question but a legal and civil one based on what AMerica promises all it's citizens.

If one American can be married, constitutionally every American has the rights to marriage as well. And, truthfully, in the end LOVE is LOVE.”

CFL68 replied on Dec 07, 2009 at 18:16:00

“Don't oversimplify. Take religion out of it.

How about all of the historical and socio-cultural record of human existence? How about biology and tens/hundreds of thousands of years of evolution?

The imperfect institution of marriage, or whatever you want to call it, is much more profound than romance or sexual attraction or economic expediency. It is an innate survival strategy that has evolved to increase our chances of successful procreation. Maybe - just maybe, it has exhausted its usefulness (I surely don't know), or perhaps it should be amended in western culture to allow polygamy and polyamory or something else. But you shouldn't be surprised that you meet resistance when you try to turn it on its head. You are partially right when you assume that people opposed to gay marriage aren't 'thinking.' Its deeper and older than cognition.

There is a lack of comprehension, and a profound wisdom in the query: "How on earth could 2 boys be married?"”

“Listen, my mother is Egyptian, too and has fair skin and thinks Egypt is part of Europe!!! She is a Ph.D! There is an extremely strong tendency with many Egyptians after English colonization.
Believe the people from the Nuba DO see it as racism as they encounter it...it is racism just not in the same form as we are familiar here in the US. Even when my first child was born, my mother's friends kept going on and on about how dark my son was. It's a head thing, trust me. They want to be white and it's a rare Egyptian like myself and my sister that consider ourselves not Arab although we share similarities in culture, language and faith.”

“Typical Arab racism...Lebanese, Syria, Iraq are rife with this crap and bring it over here. My father is from upper Egypt, extremely educated and a very beautiful dark handsome man with more intergrity in his left foot than all these nations put together. He is the sole reason we were raised to know that it is only character that elevates or denegrates, not color or religion or money.

Shame on Haifa Wehbe and all of her same ilk. That is why so many of these Arabs call all dark skinned people "Abd" or "slave". It's sickening.”

RaWash replied on Nov 20, 2009 at 02:33:41

“The songwriter is Egyptian, so i don't believe it's a case of "typical Arab racism", even the Nubian activists don't see it that way ("It may not be intentional racism on the part of the song writer, but it is still highly racist and offensive," said Motez Isaaq), try to actually read the article before you comment.”

“As I recall, Dick Cheney sent daily military briefs riddled with Bible passages and images to his entire staff... and let's not even get into George Bush intimating to everyone listening his code words for "this is a Holy war against Islam". The military has now become ultra conservative due to the past 8 years of war mongering and fanning the flames of ignorance. They knew their audience. “Dude...I say God is Most Great with everything I do... with the good and bad things that happen in my life - it is not, as you see it, as a cry that he is doing this in God's name...but the belief that the Creator is the beginning and end of all things.

Clearly, he believed his life was going to come to an end on that day - he emptied his apartment and said his goodbyes to people who had been kind to him. He didn't expect to come back just like many who feel their death is immenent in war or otherwise extoll the Creator of all things.

This has nothing to do with his faith but to do withwith how badly this man was harrassed by his fellow officers BECAUSE of his faith and their lack of it. You try being on the recieving end of that. I have - and it's awful and scary.”

“Well said, but Major Hassan and all the Muslims in the military have been experiencing this since 9/11. For myself, I think it's pretty clear he snapped...so in that sense I don't necessarily think he was a coward because I think he wasn't in his right mind

I also think that as a Major in the US Military you don't get harassed by a corporal or a sargeant. He must have endured that at the hands of other officers of his rank and above. This means that he could not go to his chain of command to report behavior that everyone "wink, wink" quietly condones. If anything it quite probably would have made his situation worse. In the military, it can be very exclusive, isolating and dangerous if you are not part of the pack. And what does this mean if he is going to be deployed with the very people that were making his life miserable?

The man joined the army out of high school to the disapproval of his family because he wanted to serve his country. I don't qet the picture of a coward - but the aftermath of this is devastating for all involved.

That's just the truth.”

It's been 8 years of hell and the hits just keep on coming ... so many millions of us every day go out into America and try to make a positive difference as a friend, coworker, room mom or even as a stranger - then this crap happens by a singular person with some obviously deep issues and the whole community pays for like no other community except the black community -and they've been taking hits in this country for far longer than us
