Commented Nov 21, 2013 at 15:40:06 in Media

“Bashir has a record of disgraceful acts--this tops the list of the most insulting, outrageous remark that would be censored anywhere else and result in the person who said it being fired. If he does not lose his job over this, what happened to all the talk about civil discourse after Gifford was shot?? If Bashir's comments don't get him fired, it means there is no civil discourse. Just say the most awful thinbgs imaginable and then offer a whoops apology a few days later?? Doesn't work for me. We are better than that I hope.”

robbor on Nov 23, 2013 at 16:43:59

“what Martin relayed was a fact, distasteful albeit, but one that woke up a vacuous mind that thinks the extent of slavery was picking cotton and singing hymns.”

Maezeppa on Nov 21, 2013 at 19:20:59

“Martin Bashir is one of the smartest in the business, and one of the most knowledeagable. He didn't say that and he should not be fired - after all, the republicans destroyed "civil discourse" over twenty years ago. Of course, they can't take what they dish out, but that's always been the case.”

“What do we have from Bashir saying he is sorry and giving an apology. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.”

jrb236 on Nov 21, 2013 at 18:12:21

“Sarah Palin says so much that is deplorable and outrageous and she can not stop lying. She is far from one you would like your children to follow has a role model. The junk and lies that come out of her mouth. Now she wants to be President so she can destroy the country. What Martin Bashir said was very mild compare to what comes out of evil mouth. What she says about Obama is often very outrageous and very deplorable.. Palin should apologize often for the rotten evil stuff that comes out her mouth. I feel what Bashir said was rather mild from what should be said about is low life women.”

Polar Shift on Nov 21, 2013 at 17:52:23

“alde, I disagree. Palins' remarks were the ones that are dispicable. She has NO knowledge of history, yet refers to events that are historically incorrect often. It is TIME to call it out and Bashir did just that. You can ' twirl that baton' all you want. She's a fool and a GRIFTER.”

robbor on Nov 21, 2013 at 17:51:53

“she's uninsultable, enjoys any attention as long as they spell her name correctly”

GirlUsingBrain on Nov 21, 2013 at 17:38:56

“Did you actually see his entire commentary? I agree he shouldn't have taken it as far as he did, but the sentence attributed in this article is taken out of context. Bashir was speaking of slavery and an atrocity perpetrated on slaves by a specific slave owner. Bashir was attempting to illustrate that Palin is totally ignorant in her understanding of slavery in America.”

“Have you ever listened to some of the RW folks on radio and TV. And, who never apologize for anything. Just like GWB/Cheny never apologized for the lies told getting us into Iraq and the lives (both ours and theirs) impacted. In fact, I think GWB said he didn't know of any mistakes he made. Give me a break.

Note: Bashir was right to apologize and should never have said what he did.”

bcbell on Nov 21, 2013 at 16:23:29

“before you fire him you might listen to the actual clip...IN CONTEXT.

Mike_Dooley55
Here is proof he did not say it. He implied it. That is a big difference. Bashir's comment has been misrepresented here and I don't think people actually saw what he said. I think Palin's statement was outrageous which is what he was getting at. See the whole exchange. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fbJE3RUJMw

“Nothing Bashir said was erroneous in any way. He did not make the quoted offending remark. Bravo to Martin! What comes out of Palin's mouth is excrement. So even if he did say what you think he said, it would not be out of place.”

“It was a set-up, a gottcha moment--they had it all set up with the excerpts on screen, although I had to 'pause' to read what it said. The main point was to smear Fatima Group and Ron Paul with a label of Anti-Semitism. Paul was right that it had nothing to do with his speech on foreign policy and the economy. She implies that going to speak somewhere means you endorse all the statements made by that group--this is nonsense IMO. If they really wanted a response, they should have let him read the quotes ahead of time and so he could consider the question instead of being caught off guard. He said he knew nothing about it as it was some kind of doctrinal question. I didn't really get what the Fatima Group's stance was--they say on the one hand they abhor hated against Jews as a race but then go on to say they are not in favor of Jews having full citizenship? They need to explain their position. So the host should have also contacted tham for an explanation--but since her purpose was smears--she didn't need to do anything like journalism.”

Not only did they 'interview' him in his apt. instead of taking him to a station for questioning (in a controlled environment where hopefully he would not 'find' a knife and then get shot and killed), but they went to his apt. after midnight (according to another news source). If this guy was a martial arts guy he did not need a knife to hurt someone. I read there were 4-5 cops there as well as the FBI agent, so why was this guy in his kitchen where he was just about to sign a confession--at midnight? OMG.”
