“I don't know about that. Clijsters was up 6-5 at the time, and if Serena was really as cool & in command as you say, she wouldn't have had her little fit. She got mad and behaved in an unsportsmanlike way because she was frustrated, because she was getting outplayed.
That said, I do think the line judge overreacted on the unsportsmanlike call- if I were her I would've used some discretion and cut Serena a little slack, understanding why she was frustrated. But if we're just going rulebook definition, it was a fair call.
Serena handled it well. I was impressed.”

That said, I was expecting it to be much worse than it looked when I watched the video. “I googled "John McEnroe unsportsmanlike conduct penalty" and found numerous examples of him being penalized. You get a warning, and then you get assessed a point, and then you get ejected. I suspect McEnroe managed to contain himself at the warning stage frequently, creating the perception that he got a free pass, but if you look into the history of it, I think you'll see the standard is applied evenly.
A friend of mine officiates USTA matches, and has gotten heat from some big names over his calls. He and his colleagues take accuracy and fairness extremely seriously.”
