“It's denial. Total denial.
Parents don't want to think that their children will make the same mistakes that they do. Some try to create a fantasy world where everything is perfect and their children are like the prince and princesses in the fairy tales.
When confronted with reality (ie scientific data) they go into denial or get angry. Nothing can disturb their creation of reality.
This new study won't change anything. It's going to take a jolt to wake people up. A huge jolt.”

“I suppose I'd have a lot more respect for the Pro-Life movement if the most vocal supporters actually listened to the women who have had abortions, and examined why they've had them. Do you know what they'd say? I had it done because I couldn't afford to have a child. (Google:Reasons U.S. Women Have Abortions:

Once the Pro-Life movement moves away from showing graphic pictures that work on fear, and into opening low cost day care centers then the dialogue on abortion will change.”

Why Rove Attacks Eric Holder: To Provide Cover for Bush's Pardons
Commented Dec 15, 2008 at 09:21:46 in Politics
“I'll respectfully disagree with you on this point. The power of Presidential pardon is very useful. John F. Kennedy used it to pardon people who were convicted of crimes under the Narcotics Act of 1956. First time offenders were give harsh mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses. Jimmy Carter pardoned Vietnam draft dodgers.
Now with that being said, since President Clinton, the power to pardon has come under well deserved scrutiny. I believe we can still have this system, but there needs to be some checks and balances built into it.”

“I agree. President Carter made good use of his power to commute the sentence of Patricia Hearst for crimes she had "willingly" committed after months of brainwashing. At the time of her trial the phenomenon of "Stockholm Syndrome" was not understood and her sentencing was completely unjust -- she is the only person ever tried and convicted under such circumstances.
Also, get ready to laugh, everyone - Now-jailed former IL Gov. George Ryan was RIGHT to set a moratorium on executions and commute all death sentences in the state. It upset many people who cry for "Closure" but our state has shown over and over again that it cannot handle the grave responsibility.”
