“What amazes me is that something as important as one's spirituality ( for lack of a better word) is shopped for and bought. like a pair of shoes that fit comfortably. I am not just talking about Scientology, but all religions. Either you are born into a particular religion and are too lazy to look beyond the teachings of the family and that particular church or within yourself. Or you shop around until you find a church that "fits" what you want it too. The worst is when you change your core beliefs to marry someone of another religion or sect. Spirituality is personal and in my minds eye should never be tainted by religion or the beliefs of anyone else . We all know what we know within ourselves and need to tap into that.. Herding is an animal trait and we humans should be way above that base behavior. Religion cheapens spirituality.”

We were members in good standing for many years until an opportunity came up where the chamber wanted to purchase products that our company provided. We were told that we were not allowed to even bid on this job because the chamber head always went outside of our county to purchase the products even though our bid was a third less for the same products.I­t turned out to be cronyism and nepotism.S­o much for the chamber...­. “I think of the circus of Teri Schivo and the thousands of people sentenced to a life of pain and despair because no one asked them teir opinion about their own care. I went to dinner with a couple who defended the republicans view on the reform bill and this guys story is that in the past three years, he has undergone three different cancer surgeries and treatments including bone marrow transplant. He actually said that he is not concerned with the other guys who can not afford insurance and that he would be dead without his insurance. He does not want any changes to his insurance plan. This guy still smokes and drinks and yet he says that everybody needs to be responsible for his or her own health and their own insurance. Go figure. It is my experience that republicans all have a real sense of entitlement in this country. The hell with the little guy.”

“For the first time in the history of our country, this health care reform bill actually takes into consideration the wishes of our elders as they reach an age where their health care is an issue. Just think of how many older people have never have a chance to voice their opinions about how they want to be treated in the case of stroke or heart failure or worse, that can lead to them being on life support for the rest of their lives. Do they want to stay home with home health care providers or do they want extreme measures to be taken in a hopeless health situation after they reach an age when their quality of life is horrible? I for one am grateful that if my family is all gone and I am alone to make these decisions.­..someone will listen to me while I am still able to make those all important and personal decisions about my own future. “It is pretty clear to me that both sides overreacted to a situation where there were a number of openings to end it. The bottom line is that when it was established that Prof. Gates lived in the home and that there were no others in the home who would present a danger....­..the police should have walked away. Leave the homeowner sputtering and ranting on his lawn and dismiss the crew that had gathered. Pretty simple. I have to add that I am a mature woman who is afraid of the many stories of abuse of power in our police force. I for one, will not open my window for a policeman if I am stopped. I will not stop on a lonely road and I do not trust the judgment of many of these guys who at a young age have been told that they have complete power over anyone. We have watched them taze pregnant women and women who were unconscious just for the fun of it.I can only imagine what fears black folks deal with every day. It is a dangerous world out there and no one is above my scrutiny.”
