Let's be honest: the only people openly associating themselves as Republicans are the hard-right reactionaries who truly believed the Rovian boasts of a permanent Republican majority, even though that goes against the principles of democracy. They are unable to tolerate any viewpoints contrary to their own, and their plan to return to power is to wait for Obama and the Democrats to fail so badly (a certainty to them, since they are unable to cope with any other conclusion) that Americans will have no choice but to vote for them. But that's not how electoral politics work; even in hard times, voters will not vote the governing party out if they see no viable alternative. The GOP is not offering a viable alternative right now. Eventually, they will have to realize their ways, or the people too tired of losing will go somewhere else.”
