Gluten: What You Don't Know Might Kill You

“Given the number of reports here on adverse reactions to micrograms of gluten, from people who have pursued a gluten-free existence, is it better to maintain *some* routine gluten exposure , rather than none?”

“You know, that's a really interesting question. The basis of homeopathy is that you take a bit of the element (allergy, disease, whatever) and it is supposed to stimulate your immune system to fight off the element. But from some of the reports here, it sounds like people who really have a bad allergy to gluten aren't able to tolerate anything. OTOH, if I eat some gluten I can certainly tell because of a sore throat and tiredness, but I don't break out in a rash or anything.”

“actually they are safe for celiacs b/c they are distilled and there is no gluten left in them. Stay away from beer though. It's often the way many celiacs are diagnosed is that they can no longer drink a beer or two with a friend without feeling like they drank a case.”

“Oh, I wish it were that easy for me. I love a good single malt and so far I've been able to have a little now and then but less than a shot of Jim Beam knocked me out and I slept for half an hour- which I NEVER do. Vodka is fine as long as it's potato based, red wine is okay and a very high quality single malt doesn't seem to provoke a response. But everyone's different. ..”

In Goldman Sachs' Cayman Islands Deals, Investors Could Only Lose

“Could individual managers' personal accounts have been at odds with what they knew to be fraud? I bet yes! They were only so happy to invest their company's funds according to the prevailing wisdom, while knowing quite well, they were sitting on a mountain of b'lls'it, and investing personally otherwise.
Will anyone ever be prosecuted? No. Why? The reasons would insult the intelligence of anyone who does not supposedly "represent" us Main Streeters.
Since these reprobates are reputed to be such magnificent geniuses, it would be instructive to see what marvelous material spews out of their skulls when they are put in a medieval torture device.
In the absence of the internet, such chatty frauds as Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer may have hoodwinked voters, but its not so easy now. Their allegiences are clear.
I am so disenchanted by Barney's incestuous relationship with Wall Street, that I must even question whether he is actually gay.”

Getting Corporate Money Out of Politics Must Become Our #1 Priority
Commented Dec 26, 2009 at 14:52:03 in Politics
“Perhaps it would just be easier to get Politics out of Money. It's quite clear that your vote only serves as some corporate proxy, because that is the one remaining sphere into which their "personhood' does not yet extend. Even now, once you've pulled the lever and done their bidding, your ideals and expectations are as disposable as a candy wrapper, until the next time the flashy ads goad you to let hope triumph over experience .
Since the voter is the only one kept out of the money equation, to make the process more equitable, votes should be auctionable as routinely as politicians.”

Taxpayers Help Goldman Sachs Reach Height Of Profit In New Skyscraper

“How ironic and commendable, that this article should appear on Bloomberg, since it was Mayor Bloomberg that, without latex gloves, lovingly massaged Lloyd Blankfein's scrotum in order to get him to remain in NYC. The argument can be made that the obscene bonuses paid by Goldman help keep the city afloat. But hundreds of millions dollars of concessions could have been better spent in revitalizing the manufacturing sector, which could absorb the hundreds of thousands of (optimistically) high school educated adults who are now languishing without hope, but quite capable of lashing out.
New York can not persist unless everyone is earning a livable wage, and we all know what "livable" means here. Bloomberg seems content in retaining a permanent, servile underclass. I love it when Lloyd Balnkfein is invariably described as the "son of a postal worker". So, the inevitable conclusion is that if you are not earning $60 million a year, and you come from modest means, you are inherently degenerate, and any complaint you register is merely sour grapes.”

“Let Palin run the country into the ground, at least that would be the coup de grace to this whole rotten system. I'm still mystified by Obama's corporate allegiances, but it demonstrates a pathology that must overtake any Presidential candidate in this age. “It's my belief when a new president takes office, they (meaning those in whose hands the real power lies) take him into a room and tell him how it's gonna be. Kennedy didn't go along with the program and brought his brother into the line of fire as well. Every other president since JFK has walked the walk. I was never sure of this until I saw Obama's face the day after he was sworn in. He was a different person from that day. If I'm right, we're doomed.”
