“Hilarious. I just logged on and found this. I was just finished with the nasty task of cleaning my kitchen after watching a really good interview by Charlie Rose of movie director Quentin Tarantino. It made scrubbing the broiler pan not seem so bad. You, however, topped off my evening. Thanks for the laugh.”

“You really think the elderly would read news online? I know some would, but I doubt it would be a significant percentage?

I recall my grandparents read daily newspapers. My grandfather even subbed to his old hometown paper AND the Wall Street Journal.

The elderly will be left high-and-dry if there are no newspapers.”

“You really think getting all Internet "news" from blogs is a good idea? Any Tom, Dick or Harry can publish a blog.

I'm not saying there aren't good sources of news on blogs, but very few are that good. We need The New York Times & The Washington Post (among others).”

princessofnowt replied on May 05, 2009 at 18:34:53

“But-- the top journalists, the really good ones- could have free reign over what they report, on sites where they are the bosses, and people could blog there (like this), citing support and denial sources like we do here.

There would be, i imagine, sites that will then pay them to use their material, to get people like us to look at their ads, but the journalists own sites are the host of the most integral part, and we will become fans of them, much like we are fans of authors and musicians.

More credit for the good journalists, and more people will strive to become great journalists as the new stratification becomes possible.

Its just an idea, but I'd like that.”

“Such a split would be impossible, by virtue of the fact that the US *is( very diverse. As the president has said, "there are no blue states or red states".

If you look at how presidential elections turn out with the popular vote vs. the electoral vote you will find that conservatives and liberals exist in all corners of all 50 states.

How do you propose we split that up, round up people and move them to opposite sides of the country?”

tommythinker replied on Apr 19, 2009 at 20:55:07

“Oh that is a real issue for sure. In the case of Cczechoslovakia the opposing sides were already geographically separated, so that made the split much easier. However, many immigrants to the US came from very foreign lands and made treacherous journeys to be here, so surely some of us could be expected to move to a different state :).”
