“I commend your insight but I don't share your optimism that anything can be done about this problem in the hope of gaining control. Not here in North America, and not in what passes as "western civilization". This planet is cooked and there is virtually nothing to be done about it. Might as well kick out the jams because there is no freedom of speech, and nihilism and punk rock depravity is the only philosophy which is willing to face the music with truthful analysis.

“Hold it. Don't cash in your chips...Yo u can build your own optimism by simply dealing One-on-One with people and finding what you have in common with them.
Build on strengths. Small, yet decisive, steps in a positive direction strengthens commitment and brightens the outlook a lot. Giving up the ghost is a very masochistic thing to do.
Give small actions a try.”

“And in the the morally advanced countries ;=) India for one they pull carts and replace the gas/oil consuming vehicles we are so addicted to further reducing the carbon footprint of man on the lands of the earth. By gelding early these animals early after birth they can be domesticated to replace tractors.
Animal husbandry is not just a catch phrase is it actually one of the oldest scientific studies of responsible land management. You are effectively saying that because males are born they have to be fattened, slaughtered, and skinned.
What pray tell would befall the Vickster if your parents kept your sister for milk and breeding; -and YOU were just for fattening up and sacrificing for war and death. Now I admit this is the way many in the south eastern US treat their males but wouldn't it be nice to get sophisticated enough and to gain enough control over your appetites so you don't actually perpetuate this foolishness ?”

“You can get all the COMPLETE protein you need with nutritional yeast, nonfat milk products, egg-whites, and save a lot of money in the process. Meat is not necessary for athletes, except for the iron present in red meat which can be taken in a more direct mineral form, instead of using meat as the inefficient delivery system which it is. Meat generally makes for shorter life because of clogged arteries in the destruction of the endofilial lining of arteries but if you just want to get near 60 years before dying you need to go vegan. But heck some folks like sports cars and want to live fast and die young. It is a matter of personal choice.”

“I bought 10 lbs. of russet potatoes last week and they were delivered the next day from a national chain. They had been irradiated or something because they would not sprout and they were being eaten up by small 1/8 inch worms and rotting right throughout the bag. They gave me my $3.99 back but the sight of the bugs made me want to throw up. How many of those potatoes found their way into peoples' meals ? What percentage of those meals were not cooked sufficiently to destroy the worms so as to allow the worms to get into the bodies of the consumers. And finally, what percentage of those people will die from enlarged hearts due to heartworms and other muscle destroying parasites which plague our profit driven food delivery system?”

“It never hurts to emphasize over and over again that this approach works. There will always be people who due to cultural and industry influences want to hang on to their meat. The human is a very thick headed animal. The health benefits of a meatless diet and the reduction of symptoms is exactly as you describe.
What you neglected to mention is that healthy endothelial cells are destroyed by invasive diagnostic procedures where a camera is shoved through arteries from the area between the legs all the way to the heart muscle. This procedure destroys the endothelials and creates coronary disease where there was none. Doctors nowadays do not think critically. They are not thought to question the wisdom or stupidity of a procedure, only how to perform it and bill it properly.”

“Thanks Larry for using your media access so wisely. I too got the Swine Flu very early on before it was identified. I caught it from my friend who teaches an ESL school in Richmond, Ca. At that time, 21 of 25 faculty members got it late November 2008 through their summering travelling students.
Our cases were very severe and mine lasted from late Jan 09- late May 09. The fever was just as you said -- never getting above 102. I stayed in bed all of February. I received Tamiflu in Sept 2008 from the VA program and was able to resist catching it from my friend it for nearly 3 weeks. Her infection started during Christmas Week. The most horrid element of the episode was the cough and the copious phlegm production. I took Mucinex and went literally through a CASE of Kleenex large size. The cough was violent and ever present. and did not subside for the third month. I am 62 and the flu evidently triggered a complete viral pneumonia response. More people had it than they realized. Berkeley drug stores ran out of tissue.
I received an additional antibiotic (not Tamiflu) from my VA doctor after the third month and that shot worked in the course of the next month. As a sufferer of CVD it hit me particularly hard. I would suggest that all measures be taken to avoid this influenza. If I had not had government provided health care I would have died.”

“corporatism: The principles or practice of corporate action or organization, esp. in a corporate state.
capitalism: The possession of capital or wealth; a system in which private capital or wealth is used in the production or distribution of goods; the dominance of private owners of capital and of production for profit.

There is nothing in these definitions regarding taxes.
There is a lot however regarding the inherent slavery involved in every capitalist application of the profit motive. Profit is theft. When profit is really successful it sucks up everything to itself and we get monopoly banks, (only thee left today >Wells, >Chase, and >B of A) imposing demands and forcing foreclosures where they then take control of more and more property. Pretty soon with this we have one great big American plantation controlled by a handful of people who continue to suck up everything that remains. Soon enough you get small feudal systems of local economies which survive around Banker Kings with private currencies. The rest of the people are abandoned and they have to scatter to beg shelter in other parts of the country (remember Katrina?). ..The banks take over more property.. .control all the wealth and GDP...peop le lose hope return to savagery (have you looked at the Republicans lately?)
and you have the basis for the saddest waste of promise in the universe.”

Price fixing determines prices. Capitalism is based on charging all that the traffic will bear while colluding with others to inflate cost to put in paper pushers pockets. MRI's cost as little as $111.00 in single payer countries to administer while in California and New York they cost $2000.00. Your position supports these paper pushers and has nothing to do with health. The vast majority of advanced technologies you tout came almost exclusively from other countries who have Single Payer systems. They have time to develop their science and technology because they don't have to waste all of their time chasing dollars to eat and stay alive.
It is called Civilization. Enter it.”

In a Capitalistic system there would be no tax breaks for companies that offer insurance. There would be no HMO legislation. Hospitals and Clinics would have to compete in prices against each other if they want to stay in business and people would shop around for the best price.
The reason why MRI's in a socialistic healthcare system is because the equiptment being used to do the MRI is paid by the Taxpayer of that nation. While if you have a MRI here in the US, the hospital that buys the equiptment needs to pay for it by charging the client a fee to pay for the equiptment.
I will never understand why you support one beaurocracy over another. Selecting one paper pusher to replace the other, rather than getting rid of the middle men and search for the best deal yourself. (And you can find lower prices on MRI's if you go to a radiologist center rather than having the procedure done in a hospital, I've seen a center here in Miami charge only $520 for an MRI)”
