billyboil replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 14:52:52

While I totally disagree with his positions on most things, he at least thinks, reasons and argues the way one should when developing policies.
He also rarely attacks the person, just the idea/argument.
Watch Brooks and Shields go at it.......a breath of fresh air, 'cause they THINK before speaking, unlike most other journos on air.”

President Obama and Gay Rights: Forgetting the Lessons of the Campaign

Commented Nov 05, 2009 at 22:32:11 in Politics

“I'm glad to see that Gays are progressive.

Now I will wait to see if they are patient enough to let the man they helped elect do his job and fulfill his promises in the sequence that he sees fit. He can be reevaluated in 2012, if he puts his name on the ballot. Who needs all this grief from so called supporters.

You can always vote republican, or just stay home.
The results will be the same.
Maybe a republican president will put the Gay agenda first.”

Busbydav replied on Nov 06, 2009 at 09:56:30

“Or you can funnel your time and your money into local and state elections with pro gay progressives instead of Obama's campaign.”

FearlessFreep replied on Nov 06, 2009 at 00:45:24

“It isn't the gay community (or the left in general) that's preventing Obama from doing his job. Obama keeps making his own choice not to lead.”

livinCalDemtbubble replied on Nov 05, 2009 at 23:55:06

“Just because I am Gay and Progressive does not mean my choice, in spending time and money, is Obama or Republicans. I can, do and will chose to spend my funds and time on candidates who unabashedly support GLBT civil rights; Obama is not such a candidate. Of course in 2012 he will be nominated for President and I will vote for him. But he will not get one cent of my funds or one second of my time. Perhaps these independents whom he allegedly panders to will support him with time and money. In my opinion Obama has ignored his base, when he sees the consequences he will pander to us, it will be too late.”

nancy50 replied on Nov 05, 2009 at 23:29:09

“Or we could primary Obama in 2012 with someone who knows what it's like to be progressive - Howard Dean.”

Why I Have Some Empathy for Balloon Boy's Dad

Commented Oct 21, 2009 at 12:47:34 in Media

“I have come to the conclusion that 24 hour news networks are hazardous to our mental health.

In order to fill that amount of time they have to sensationalize the tiniest incident. They bring you the breathy teaser about what someone said or someone did and they make it out to be so earth shattering then when they finally do cover it it's almost like an anticlimax, spending an average of 30 seconds on it.

They build it up and don't deliver. It's yellow journalism at its best.

I finally understand why MSNBC plays all those documentaries on the weekends; far better than the continuous loop of hogwash that the other networks run. I just wish they would get off the prison shows and show some educational or historical documentaries.

I now check on the hour or the half hour to see if there are any actual news updates. And I limit myself to Keith, Rachel, and sometimes Ed. And I usually just watch segments of those shows.”

middleoftheroad replied on Oct 21, 2009 at 13:02:47

“So the crap that MSNBC plays on the weekend like "child serial killers" and "inside prison" is better then a guy like Don Lemon or Fareed Zakaria talking about world events? MSNBC is a joke.”

“It's not just about health care AFTER a woman gives birth.

The most important health care should be delivered BEFORE a woman gets pregnant to ensure that she is in good health and will have the healthiest baby possible.

And then then the prenatal health care given DURING a pregnancy is of utmost importance.

How do they reconcile denying health care to pregnant women and yet be against abortion?
It defies logic.”

sippewissett replied on Oct 08, 2009 at 14:35:56

“Why would Kyl care about the illogic of anti-abortion vs no maternity care? As he said, he doesn't need it. He's not faced with the weight of an abortion decision and he doesn't have to juggle a low-wage job with raising a baby alone. Why should he care? Selfish Repug thinking: if it doesn't touch me, who cares?”

“Amen. My family came from Spain to Mexico, then moved up to New Mexico. I can trace my family back in New Mexico to the 1600's. If I ever get stopped for having a brown face, I'm going to have Sheriff Joe deported back to where he came from. I bet my roots are far more American than his.

And p.s., we're in all colors Sheriff Joe. We have dark brown to albino white skin, we have black hair to towheads, we have dark brown eyes to light blue, green and gray. You can't pigeonhole Mexicans, any more than you can say "whites" are actually "white." So when your deputies stop a brown face, they may have missed an illegal blonde, blue eyed Mexican........gasp!!!!!”

Kyl Hit with Local Ads Showing His No-Need-For-Maternity-Care Statement

Commented Oct 05, 2009 at 15:14:02 in Politics

“If you take a moment to analyze his comment; it becomes more and more ludicrous..

Aren't the republicans against abortion?
How are these pregnancies supposed to be cared for?

If he wants to keep cost down, then wouldn't covering abortion make more sense if your main focus is to cut spending? Instead of 9 months of health care followed by an individual with health care needs for approx 70 plus years you would only spend on one outpatient procedure.

Their logic about health care makes as much sense as their present protectionism for Medicare when just a few months ago they voted to phase Medicare out..

And taking maternity care out of a policy for males only works if those same males never marry and include a wife on their policy.
Or if those same males only marry other males.

Boggles the mind if you think about it too much.
But, that's what happens when you try to make reactionary policy instead of thoughtful policy.”
