America Without a Middle Class

Ms. Warren makes great points, but we don't need more acedemics, real jobs and the growth of the middle class is created by entrepreneurs. Stop hindering their ability to create companies and create wealth, and the middle class will grow.”

“Sorry aramos. Your supposition is based on old, tired, stale sayings. I worked in private enterprise as a BUSINESS OWNER for twenty-seven years, always made my payroll, paid my bills on time (net 30) NEVER went to the bank for a loan, earned a class A rating with Dunn and Bradstreet, and sold my business while it was profitable and under my terms. Why did I get out? To teach - Many of my colleagues in education have all the skills and talents to form and run a business, however they feel a commitment to educating the young a higher calling and more worthy of their talents. Quite frankly, it doesn't take much to run a business; and to follow on your standard of cliches, "It all comes down to luck and being in the right place at the right time".”

“So, the banks should be giving more, and more generous loans to existing and developing companies, with the usual business plans, financial and structural models required of success, so they can grow and hire and prosper, instead of taking shelter (and hunkering down with our deposits and governmental aid) and generating earnings solely on mind-boggling, unethically 'hidden' fees, avoiding reasonable risk, and engaging in all those creative, dangerous liaisons of unsustainable business practices. .. I think that Ms Warren is right on the money.”

“"Warren makes great points, but we don't need more acedemics, real jobs and the growth of the middle class is created by entrepreneurs"
1) We do need someone to make these points, and academics, who are skilled in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data, are particularly qualified to do so.
2) Growth is created by technological advance more than anything else. To develop new technology, we need to produce college and grad school graduates with strong scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills. This is the responsibility of academia.
I don't see why academics are a threat to entrepreneurship, anyway.”

The war there is eight years in the making. The quagmire there is hundreds of years in the making. The cultural tension in Afghanistan is not something that gets fixed overnight. I wish we could just leave Afghanistan, but I imagine the President has information I don't. That reason might be military industrial complex approved and it might not. The lack of patience in this country is glaringly obvious.
I am no armchair president. I will be patient. If at the end of four years this President has gotten nothing done then I will not vote for him again. Until then, I'm giving him his chance to straighten out the myriad problems we face.”

“Again.. Maher chose remarkably poorly in contrasting Ali with Obama!!! Ali was considered a lightweigh t... all show and flash... a fancy Olympian who wouldn't be able to cut it with street fighters! Ali is credited with destroying the entire ethic of heavyweight boxers for two generations. New boxers who come into the game or go to the Olympics are warned AGAINST "being like Ali" i.e. don't dance around and showboat.. don't try to PROVE you can take as much punishment as the toughest boxer... and work the body don't just try for fancy and skillful combinations!!! This is PRECISELY what Maher is correctly concerned about and warning Obama against. Ask ANY fight fan or trainer... GO IN FOR THE KILL is not what Ali was known for.. rather he is known for being blase about taking too much punishment in the early rounds and prolonging fights even with lesser boxers. What Maher SHOULD have said is FIND YOUR INNER MIKE TYSON. Go in and chase these tomato cans like Wilson and Boehner around the ring until you can place a lead glove upon their jaw and watch 'em crumble into the ropes! You can float like a butterfly in the debates in 2012... until then... start knocking some of these clowns out in 51 seconds!”
