The Net Neutrality Quandry for Big Telecom: Fight or Deal?
Commented Oct 25, 2009 at 20:55:02 in Media
“Here is where the problem with how the government didn't spend the money on the infrastructure like say most of western Europe, South Korea and Japan. Their broadband speeds far exceed the US with less cost.
For Example I am currently in the UK and pay about $20 a month for high speed broadband. Also I have notice far more broadband companies here than in America.
That is why I laugh when the righties cry about Euro style socialism. I have seen in some areas far more competition with better consumer pricing.”

“One thing I really like about the British Press, is they don't hold back. I wish we had "Question Time" in the US. "Question Time" also has questions by the studio audience. I haven't seen any softball questions on the show.”

“Maybe you just made a slip, but question time isn't for the press. It's for MPs. Other than that, it's not a bad tradition but maybe this wouldn't be the right time to introduce it in the US.”

“I disagree he wants a team like every other sports team owner. It is "toy", something to brag about with yourgolf buddies at the country club. However Rush, like a lot of rich, no matter what race, they think they can have whatever they want.
Rush is going to find out this hard lesson, you can say what ever you want, but if you come close to jeopardize richer peoples money. You will get kicked harder then PAT during the Superbowl.”

I am sure a Republican president will be all about gay issues.
BTW, I know plenty about goal post moving, especially when the state of Tenn. kept telling my late father they were going to find the men that lynched my grandfather.”

“I believe their is feet dragging because Obama is looking for "the big win" in health care. I hate to give righties any credit but they know if health care doesn't pass it will make getting things that look on paper simple to do that much harder. You will end up with congress people who are up for 2010 that are afraid to vote for the end DADT. If there is no significant piece of legislation for them to hang their hat on during the midterms, they know they will be assaulted by the most nefarious anti-gay political ads by the righties. Not all Dems not counting blue dogs come from the most progressive districts. It would turn into Prop 8 on a national scale.
Then we end up with a bunch of self serving, self righteous Repubs and no change will happen.”

"say no to 0870 " just google it.
You can get 01/02/03 numbers for all the call centre ones which you might have got a callpackage for cheap or free calls to these numbers.
or just use a mobile and scrap the landline like I did mate.

“It already hard to get medical personal in sparse populated parts already. I have nursing school classmates who get paid crazy money right out of school to work in West Texas. A lot of the issues the NHS faces the US does already plus more. A lot of the monies that you speak of in taxes going into a single payer system would come from what we would have paid for in private insurance. Before I got married and moved to the UK I was paying 600 a month as a single non smoker. I dropped after a while due to it constantly going up and the fact I worked in a hospital and most of the doctors I worked with were good enough to see me for free.
Monies would also come from reducing military expenditures. We are cutting back on the big ticket items as it is. Also remember the US does not come close to the social programs that the UK spends into.”

“Well I am an American who has lived in the UK for about four years. Prior to moving here I was a nurse on the floor and off the floor for over 15 years. I have found the NHS far better than what we currently have in the US. The biggest thing I have found in direct patient care a medical culture issue. Just as there is a difference in cultures with the countries.
There is mismanagement every where they key in the NHS is having management teams that know what they are doing. I have seen the same kind of thing in US hospitals I have worked at. I will say this that the care that my son had received with his physical therapist who cam to the home and worked with him every week. I know for sure would have never happen at home, no insurance company would pay for that kind of care. I am now fearful that because of his condition that he would be uncoverible when we would return back home.
Sorry after 6 in most cities your doctor’s answering service would tell you if it is life treating go to the ER if not call the office in the AM and see if they can get you in or go to after hours clinic. Then you have to call your insurance to see if they will cover it.”

“I ask my gay brothers and lesbian sisters to take a step back and revaluate the situation. Yes blacks may have voted a large majority against gay marriage, but to reiterate a point someone else said a lot of blacks feel 1) that gay rights aren’t the same as civil rights for minor ties in particular blacks. (which is very wrong) 2) A lot of blacks are social conservatives. 3) the black community is one of the last minority groups that are accepting of gays and lesbians.
I ask that gays and lesbians be patient , and bide your time, remember it was not until 1967 that interracial marriage was legal with Loving v. Virginia. I know 1967 seems like a long time ago but it was not. Remember we as a race humans, that is are work in progress. All prejudices can not be swept aside with one fell swoop. I suggest that don’t take this as a defeat take it is a set back, because that is what it is the right thing is not always the easiest.
Remember we now have a president who in all likely hood appoint judges who believe in the constitution, not destroying it.
I also suggest going after these churches tax exempt status for interfering with political and personal issues.”
