“No more crap. Humans, we don't know everything. Scientists, please use your skills for better purposes. Do these scientists get paid for these conclusions!!
Who cares about Zebra's and flies and or why. Just more "BS".”

Jen Celli on Apr 4, 2014 at 13:42:36

“Scientists are paid for their conclusions because, unlike your own unscientific and purely insipid comment, understanding what happens organically in nature to interfere with, defend from and generally repel predation helps mankind avoid using non-organic and lethal means to obtain the same objective. How do you thrive with such a low threshold of understanding about the education and research?”

Parker95 on Apr 3, 2014 at 20:47:07

“Only someone who is woefully ignorant about how science works, and how the most obscure research often yields incredibly useful knowledge, would make a comment this fatuous.
And the people who know better than anyone that we don't know everything are scientists. That's why they do science. Duh!”

Autora on Apr 3, 2014 at 17:06:44

“They do and I do, because learning how nature works and what can prevent certain things from happening, is extremely useful. If nobody had ever bothered to study mosquitoes (why study an insect?), we still wouldn't know that they transmit one of the deadliest diseases on the planet: malaria.”

Sarah Bonner on Apr 3, 2014 at 16:39:15

“This isn't BS.

An example to how this research can help humans is if it results in an understanding that these large 'biting flies' (particularly ones carrying deadly diseases) are actively avoiding black and white striped surfaces, then the locals who live in these areas can use this knowledge for their own protection -- for example, wearing striped protective clothing while out in an area where the flies breed, or covering entrances in their homes with the pattern to discourage flies from entering.”

PTerrys on Apr 2, 2014 at 14:54:46

“I call it biology. Research shows adults do not need as much sleep as still growing teenagers. They will be adults soon enough, let them grow up without calling them names. Their responsibilty is to be educated so that they will become productive citizens. That's enough to ask of a fifteen year old.”

“Read the article, do some research, it is about biology. Teenagers are still growing and developing, they require at lot of sleep. Why would we make it more difficult for them. Maybe you have never raised teenagers, I have, and believe me if you insisted they go to bed earlier, they will lie there awake. A later start time is a good thing.”

“Lots of adults make the same claim. The whole purpose of HS is to prepare kids to go out into the real world. Well guess what, in the real world, the boss doesn't care if your "clock" is on a different time frame. Of course an entitlement brat like this thinks the world should revolve around her needs and thus is not likely to even bother working unless they are willing to work on her schedule. It's called responsibility.”

“Did you actually read the article. I have done some research, there is plently information out there to back up the reality about the sleep cycle for teenagers. I am a Grandmother and see the fatigue my Granddaughter is dealing with daily . I find it cruel that she should have to get up a 5:30am in order to get to school by 7:20am. I am not looking for a debate. I personally believe that school shouldn't start before 9:00am. Dismissal would be, 3:30 - 4:00pm. As I said in my earlier comment. Teenagers in Boston are starting at 7:00 and being dismissed at 1:30pm. I think that is ridiculous. I hope this later start time catches on all over the country. Just my opinion.”

Shannon Pelley on Mar 23, 2014 at 13:21:32

There are few parents around to supervise or direct activities. It is ridicilous to drag kids out of bed at 5:00 am so they can be in a classroom by 7:00am. If school start times are not benefical to the kids, (everyone knows that), who do they benefit?”

“Teenagers require "Teens need about 9 1/4 hours of sleep each night to function best (for some, 8 1/2 hours is enough). Most teens do not get enough sleep — one study found that only 15% reported sleeping 8 1/2 hours on school nights.
Sleep for Teenagers - National Sleep Foundation
sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics/teens-and-sleep."
I have wondered for years why kids are forced to get up at 5:30am. and be in school by 7:00am. Why Why Why???? Is anyone thinking about the kids when they make school up schedules. I don't think so. It seems to be more what school administrations and teachers want It doesn't work for teengers, it is unfair to pit them against normal biology.”

Shannon Pelley on Mar 23, 2014 at 08:36:37

“she had to be at school by 8, not 7, and could not even manage that. for the 8 1/2 hours listed she should go to bed about 10pm. is that too unreasonable? now they will start at 9, get out about 4 or a little later? homework, PT jobs, extra curricular activities, all that is pushed back another hour as well. starting an hour later did not create another hour in the day, it just pushed everything else (including bed time) later”

d1anaw on Mar 22, 2014 at 21:21:19

Dianarob on Mar 22, 2014 at 20:18:17

The issues we from the sixties & seventies fought for were about "Equality" , where we wouldn't consider or judge anything about another human being but their ,"Character", that has become blurred, and obscured, by the need to label every individual first by their race or gender preference, which has nothing to do with character or abilities.”

KurtMichaelFriese on Mar 15, 2014 at 13:08:28

“Role models make a difference. And when LGBT citizens are treated the same as other citizens, this won't be an issue anymore.

No one notices when a Catholic runs for president anymore. But when JFK was running it was a big deal. They don't notice when an astronaut is a woman, but Valentina Tereshkova and Sally Ride both became great role models to girls. Firsts are valuable. And Jason Collins is giving hope to gay kids that maybe they actually can make it to the show.

The problem is the availability of guns to supply the bad guy market. The more guns Americans have, the more there are for bad guys to steal or buy. Rather simple reasoning actually or is your "astuteness" in question?.”
