“WOW! It MUST be god intervening to save the statue of himself! YUP, that’s the ONLY explanation… couldn’t be total coincidence? Couldn’t be that the statue is made of CEMENT and is, thus quite strong? Couldn’t be that it was in just the right place to miss the devastation? NAH… had to be god. Oh, but that very same “GOD” killed thousands all around the statue, leveled nearly the entire country to rubble, and displaced hundreds of thousands of people… That, my friends, is a special kind of insane, dangerous bizarro logic that allows one to think that a supernatural entity would save a statue to himself AND KILL THOUSANDS, and consider that a “miracle”. This is just one more example of how religion warps the logic of a normal mind.”

duckboard on Nov 15, 2013 at 23:53:32

“Nice vest. Anyway, what about the scores of faithful, who you need to call "warped religious people", who fully understand that it's an example of a strongly built statue and nothing else? Your intense eagerness to brush stroke billions of people shows a lot about you. Perhaps you should examine yourself instead. Maybe your idea that you are automatically logical because you aren't "religious" is symptomatic of issues of your own.”

“Well, have we finally come to our senses? Our government needs to remain religion neutral, according to our Constitution. Forcing our citizens to acknowledge ANY god is ILLEGAL. Putting decalogues on public property, expressions of faith on school walls and on our money, invocations before any government meeting (INCLUDING CONGRESS), or any other government sponsored intimation that there is a superstitious entity that watches over us, was and is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Why don’t we allow Thomas Jefferson HIMSELF to explain it, here, in his famous (well maybe YOU haven’t heard of it) letter to the Danbury Baptists, “ I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, THUS BUILDING A WALL OF SEPARATION BETWEEN CHURCH & STATE.…” Or, how about: "And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Govt will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together." -James Madison, letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822. OK, thumpers, your turn….”

“Our Constitution provides, under (Article I, section 2) that "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments ...” and that, "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments .... [but] no person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present" (Article I, section 3). The president, vice president, and all civil officers of the United States are subject to impeachment. The House of Representatives charges an official by approving, by majority vote, articles of impeachment. A committee of representatives, called “managers,” acts as prosecutors before the Senate. The Senate Chamber serves as the courtroom. The Senate becomes jury and judge, except in the case of presidential impeachment trials when the chief justice of the United States presides. The Constitution requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate to convict, and the penalty for an impeached official is removal from office. In some cases, disqualification from holding future offices is also imposed. There is no appeal. Seems to me that every damned Teabagger that has declared that they want to take down our government, starting with Cruz, should be impeached immediately so that the country can get on with its business.”

“It was the same way here in the begining of the 20th century and if some have their way, they'd love to see it return. Women in THIS country, you those so called Christians, had no rights in the early 1900s. They couldn't own property in their own name, couldn't vote, were considered property of husbands or whatever male relative was living, even if he was younger. It isn't just Islam and plenty of "Christians" still have the same mindset. So do find a way to get over your bigotry.”

If you believe in things that aren’t there, well, let’s let Voltaire put into succinct terms, “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” If you believe in angels, fairies, pantheistic entities, etc. you are subject to performing acts that go against logic!”

“at least from 'organized religion' -- and so many years ago references to reincarnation were removed from the bible (Guttenberg (sp) press in 1444 -- they figured people would get access to bibles and to keep people tithing removed most of the reincarnation references--why would someone tithe to any church when/if they thought they would be reincarnated (ultimate in recycling of souls) --I'm very against 'organized religion' because is 'separates' people--separates Jewish from Catholic, Catholic from Methodist, etc. and of course the Southern Baptist do not accept anyone except another Southern Baptist and as I say - southern fellas will drive 500 miles for a part for their pickup truck and won't drive 20 miles to date outside the gene pool”
