Texas Senate Votes To Allow Guns In Cars On College Campuses

“I do not own a gun. Please do not project your insecurities on me. Although, I have been the victim of violent crime (not in TX), I do not feel that i necessarily need one or need to carry one. I do believe that a right does not have to be based upon a need.”

“This will at least allow commuter students, faculty, and staff to not have to leave their firearms at home while they attend classes or work. While it does not allow a full exercise of rights, it is a step in the right direction.”

“A wee bit paranoid are we??-- lived in Texas for years and never ever needed a gun for anything- ever -as is the case for 99% of the people-- that is except the paranoids. Good luck on that...nothing like living with paranoids.....with guns.”

“I own a gun in a state that has carry permits. I dont find any need to take the gun with me when i leave the house. The main purpose of owning the gun is to protect our home , not to run around town playing cop”

“I'm incredibly interested in how members of our police forces feel about an armed citizenry. In a shooting situation like we have seen play out in the past, the idea of dozens of armed citizens skulking around looking for someone who is carrying a gun... that sounds ludicrous. You can spew all you want about "responsible gun owners," and that they will have to be trained and all that. If any of that were legitimate, you would see a lot less random shootings in households by children, people cleaning their firearms, etc.

What about when the police show up to these shootings, and now they have to do ballistics on dozens of firearms that have been fired. How can they tell who is a threat and who is not? Don't you see that as a logistical nightmare, and more importantly, as an incredibly dangerous situation for our police to be in?”

“Whitman was brought down by two officers and once civilian that was deputized on the scene, who was carrying his own weapon. In fact, much of the return fire prior to his take-down, against Whitman, was from civilians.

fact: the tower is visible, and adjacent to, my office.”

Boston Bombing Suspects Did Not Have Gun Licenses

“so... requiring a license did not stop them from acquiring firearms? How exactly does this support the argument that background checks would make any difference?”

xobamab on Apr 22, 2013 at 15:38:17

“It doesn't it only gives the left some ammunition to continue beating the drum on "gun control" ...gun control in IMO means hitting your target.”

“Because background checks are only one line of defense. Ever watch football? Does the defense only play with defensive lineman? Or are there linebackers and defensive backs behind them?”

“Cause they are implying that terrorists shop at local FFLs and pay for their supplies with bank cards registered to them.”

“You are correct that bullet size does not equate to muzzle energy, but you conveniently ignored the comparison to common hunting rifle calibers. I invite you to compare 0.223 to other rifle calibers. I see some of your other comments acknowledge the fact that it is a lower powered round, and that your real issue is magazine size. Please, if you are going to lower yourself to questioning my intelligence, I will refrain from any further discussions with you.”

“It is lower powered than some rounds but high powered none the less. ”

“Both the assault rifles that police are provided and the semi-automatic rifles that non-law enforcement civilians are permitted (that are being characterized as assault weapons) are generally not high-powered. They fire a bullet of a caliber that is smaller than most handgun ammunition, and are of a smaller caliber than many hunting rifles. But this discussion is besides the point, civilians should be allowed the same protections under the constitution that LEO are provided, especially because officers comprise a civilian force, not a military force.”

OneInEveryFamily on Jan 29, 2013 at 18:05:55

“Bullet size is not the issue when it comes to power.  Power is.  More specifically, energy.  You obviously do not know much about the topic if you think a 223 is not high powered.  It is designed to be able to kill at 500 yards.  That means it is very high energy.  For example, it is 3 times the energy of a 45 acp.  That is high power.”

Texas Loses Entire Women's Health Program Over Planned Parenthood Law

“* medicaid policy is not law. Its a problem of the Federal gov't trying to dictate how the states fund programs, whether or not the federal gov't has the authority to pass those laws.”
