“Agreed. What people do with their pants down as consenting adults doesn't matter. What matters is when these people are HYPOCRITES and then want to LORD it over others with legislation based on their "religious" beliefs.

Would there BE any laws forbidding homosexuals serving in the military, were it not for "religion"?

We need common human decency and human morality to rule, not these ideas from the Bronze Age.”

You said it! This religion and all of the hype surrounding it does not belong in government. Save that for your revival tent.”

“At least Catholics confess privately in a confessional booth, to one person.

The Baptists and other fundamentalists go to news conferences and broadcast networks to "confess". Then, they merely don't recite their list of transgressions......they EMOTE over them and cry out to Jaysus and make a circus spectacle of it all.

The private confessional spares the rest of us, this nonsense.”

“Looking at Revelations from a contemplative viewpoint, do you mean?

Maybe it is mysterious and confusing because John was isolated, living in a cave, superstitious and some researchers believe, may have eaten ergot, an hallucinogenic compound sometimes found in wheat.

Don't stress yourself too hard, trying to "understand" John's scribble.”

“why not test both simultaneously?

Also, my daughter was 100% breast fed, UBER healthy, having not even a sniffle, until her 18 month vaccination. After that, she developed flu like symptoms often, had colds, pneumonia at age 3, bronchitis with complications of asthma.

She is now 20 and having been raised on ALL ORGANIC FOOD and clean un-floridated water, I can happily say she is healthy. She will still get colds once in awhile, but no more than that.

I do also think, however that the theory of the chemical cocktail interfering with our endocrine systems is absolutely the case. Has anyone heard of the area of NYC which has a huge spike in breast cancer in women? The theory is that they all have expensive clothing which goes to the dry cleaners. The chemicals in their clothing then "bake" in their closets and when they wear them, the chemicals seep into their skin. Ditto for antiperspirant chemicals.

Mercury, dry cleaning chemicals, weed-killer, plastics in the microwave....I believe they are ALL culprits! We are mammals! We are not supposed to be swimming in this soup of chemicals all day everyday. No wonder we have health crisises.”

“I so agree with this post! A wife can still be pretty and have a bangin' body but if she is a pain in the a*#, a guy will find even a flirty, fun plain jane more attractive! It IS about how a person makes US feel. That is why we hook up with people in the FIRST place. It is never so much how we feel about them, it's about how we feel about ourselves when we're WITH them!

Additionally, the pressure that men are under to be providers, 50-50 partners with child-rearing, housework etc. can feel colossal, especially if the guy hates his job but can't quit because he is supporting a family. If the wife is b*%#h to boot, another woman who comes on sweet and no pressure can seem like Heaven on Earth.”

What Will You Do With Your Blue Marble?

Commented May 26, 2009 at 09:29:25 in Green

“You are right J, that the Ocean gets short shrift when discussing "Saving the Planet". The whole Green movement tends to keep everyone focused on jungles, forests and endangered species therein.

I like the term you used relative to the Ocean "wallflower".....very evocative and so true!

This Summer at our school we will be discussing the Ocean and our attention will be on sea life. I am going to incorporate talking about our planet as a Blue Planet, like a blue marble....something kids can relate to, from now on.

Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs Have Not Reduced Teen Pregnancy

Commented Apr 17, 2009 at 21:08:27 in Politics

“How do you know that adoption is "infinitely better" than abortion? Not for me. No way I was going to continue with a pregnancy I didn't want. That is medieval thinking.

Your supernatural point of view has nothing to do with my body. Those ideas you've inherited are in your head, not mine.

For me, it is a biological matter, a medical matter, a private matter, nothing whatsoever to do with your or anyone else's belief in the supernatural.”

Azyuwish

How ironic that you use the word medieval with the word abortion.

You are right. it is your body and your soul too and you will have to live with your decision. Our daughter Ally became pregnant when she was 17. Unlike you, she chose to have the baby and give her up for adoption. She chose an open adoption so that she and my wife and I might get to see the child grow up. Ally chose the parents, a wonderful couple who were unable to have children. They had one child already from a previous open adoption. Abby turned 10 this March and is a joyful, happy little girl with parents who love her dearly. Adoption is the ultimate gift and I am proud my daughter decided on her own to give the gift of life. I shudder to think that Abbey could have ended up in an abortion sink.”

Meanwhile space alien dad communicates with home world plans rescue of himself and son, but before they could save him this bastard son from outer space pisses off the locals and get nailed for it. Thinking him dead, he gets walled up, aliens locate, and revive using a beam but there's an unintended consequence when sloppy use of beam awakens all the recent dead. Space Dad and His Son unite to put the undead back where they should be. and the fight between good and evil is born .... see a sequel too.”

“That is so cool. A rabbit next to a robin's egg. Love that. Spring has sprung.

I like the mythology of Jesus rising again as a metaphor. Nothing dies, nothing is born. Objects make an "appearance" here, but of what stuff are they made? They come out of the etheric Everything, the Unified field, the soup of the Universe and form new structures but born? Taking on an apparently new form.

Same with dying. A certain apparent individual passes from view, from our experience, the animating factor disappears, but as that is energy it returns to the Everything that is always already there; the Unified field. That same energy can morph again into something else (some would say reincarnate, which might be a possibility) but the "stuff" that makes up Stuff is all the same....stuff.”

“They didn't question the stimulus package. They as a body blocked it en masse.

They have not tried to work out an alternate plan to send to the President. They are obstructionists and in THIS time and place, in THIS economic crisis, which IS in large degree psychological after a certain point, it IS unpatriotic to put "party first".

Did Democrats put "party first" after 9/11?? This is an economic 9/11, in case you haven't noticed, Rip Van Winkle...where have you been??,”

“azyuwish, the GOP was afforded very little opportunity to go over the stimulus plan. Yes, in THIS time and place, in THIS economic crisis, spending of this magnituded needs to be reviewed with a fine tooth comb to eliminate the waste. As a conservative myself, I am personally disgusted with any member of the GOP who has written in any earmarks for their state. As you say, it is unpatriotic to put party first, but that is what the Dems are doing by not allowing anyone to look at all their wasteful spending. What happened to 5 days to look over bills as promised by The One? How about even the 48 hours promised by Pelosi? They lie whenever they get a mic in front of their faces because it's second nature to them now. They've done it incessently over the last 8 years. They rushed the bill because the President had to sign it, yet that jag-off didn't even look at it until 4 days later? Why is that, have you bothered to ask yourself that? Obama is in over his head and it's showing. He's going to go down as the 2nd worst president in history next to Jimmy Carter.”

Obama Must End the War on Drugs -- or Mexico and Afghanistan Will Collapse

Commented Feb 11, 2009 at 09:18:13 in Politics

“There is major hypocrisy in the DRUG WAR. How many Americans go about their daily lives and smoke a little pot now and again with no harm to anyone? I suggest it is MILLIONS. Then this poor young kid Michael Phelps, has what....14 Olympic Gold medals (Yeah HE'S a slacker!) gets caught taking a bong hit at a party....and now his career is in doubt? He may not even be able to go to the next Olympics?? Kellogg's cancelled his contract?

Let everyone who wants an end to the War on Drugs boycott Kellogg's also and call or write to them to tell them why.

It's all B.S.! Bet your bottom dollar there are execs at Kellogg's who get hammered on their favorite liquid drug...alcohol...way more destructive than pot could ever be.

It's so hypocritical.”

“I don't work for WalMart. I am a teacher in a Private school. I was using them, a classic case, as an example.

Not EVERYBODY is college bound or college material. Not all people are destined for university educations. There are always going to be people who will work at the less technical, more "grunt" style jobs which provide necessary functions in our society. These jobs also need to provide a living wage.

One example is a group known as Janitors for Justice. They have been successful in Los Angeles. The janitors organized and got themselves a living wage. There are some janitors who will go on to college some day and get a different job, but YOU are missing the point.

The socio economic class of workers who will always be necessary to enable society to function (ie. farmworkers who I predict will be mid-century heroes) need and DESERVE a living wage, whether or not they are "college" educated.”

hearsyoursign replied on Feb 02, 2009 at 09:44:57

“And what is a "living wage" pray tell. For you a "living wage" could mean $20,000 to pay for bare necessities. For the spender down the street, a "living wage" may mean nothing less than $75,000. For the person who wants everything, and wants it now, and only wants to work hard enough to be a greeter at Wal-Mart, their idea of a "living wage" could be $1.5 million.

See, now the problem becomes defining a "living wage".”

The H-1B Visa workers are the first ones who should be included in the organizing effort. We need to level the playing field, GLOBALLY.
There IS enough money to go around. The scarcity game is played to frighten people into accepting what they've been told they deserve.

Another economic model is called for. Just looking at "free enterprise" as it is today and we can see it as an abject failure. Just LOOK at Wall Street.
The bonuses which have been given and taken are OUR taxes.

WE are the turnip which is being squeezed for more blood. Banks too big to fail??? Corporations too big to fail??? How about the middle class is too big to fail! How about making a stronger middle class.
