“GO DNC!!!! FINALLY!!!! Say it with meaning and hit them with words that count. I absolutely love the last line: "It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim." ~~~ The DNC won't persuade the truly wingnuttier wingnuts but it will open the eyes of those rational, middle-of-the-road, independents who must be growing increasingly disillusioned with the non-patriotic, non-supportive, totally CRAZY Rethugs!”

“Let's not expend any more energy trying to convince the rethugs how to love and embrace this country. Their denial of any patriotism or any joy for America's shining example to the world is gone. Instead, let's revel in the applause of nation's (and our own populace) for a man whose vision is shared. Let's work to make peace universal, starting on Capital Hill and going throughout our great land.”

“It is so disturbing that this woman hails from the same great state that gave us Humphrey and Mondale and Klobuchar and Franken. MB is just as scary as Pale-in ~ narrow-minded, narcissistic, self-righteous, and hypocritical. They are not leaders; they are fear-mongerers who grow their base through negative messages that make people afraid and uncomfortable. I just hope that people remember that MB does NOT represent the whole state of Minnesota; just one small mis-guided section . . .”

I love that Dave calls her out on it but it also concerns me b/c I know there are so many (like some of the posts here) who don't see the conniving political ditz getting camera attention for her "charity" work.”

“Of course you know what motivates someone, correct. You are the ultimate judge. So, was it political calculation as well that motivated her to choose to keep her mentally challenged baby? Was her son going to the battlefield of Iraq a political stunt too?
There is so much to criticize in terms of policies that she supports, of which I am on the opposite side, but the vicious personal attacks speak more to all of you than it does to her. As I said, you criticize someone when there is something to criticize.
To be honest, ALL politicians are motivated by political calculation in terms of their public actions. In this case, it supports a great cause, so it's a great use of her name in my opinion.”

(1) denial is a very effective in a family system b/c everyone gets to pretend that nothing is happening that needs to be looked at. Alcohol abuse, drug abuse, domestic assault, sexual trauma, emotional & physical bullying -- all thrive when denial reigns;
(2) telling the truth is inconvenient, isn't it? It makes people stop, look, and listen. And, sometimes, keep on denying reality.”

“Survivors of sexual trauma often describe a sense of dissociation. Dissociation is the feeling of being suspended from reality. It is like a psychological escape hatch but the disconnect from what is real and what is not can last a lifetime. Drugs and alcohol just further complicate the picture.
I don't know whether or not to believe MP. And yet her behavior is so consistent with survivors of sexual trauma. She identifies with the aggressor and has a consenual relationship (maybe trying to normalize what clearly was a very sick and twisted relationship???). She escapes the emotional pain by using drugs and alcohol (a trick used by her aggressor who introduces her, by mutual admissions, to the world of disconnect). She tries to warn others (Bijou) but she cannot effectively help b/c she herself has never had models of effective care-taking from parent figures. And now she "tells all" b/c, honestly, what does she have to lose?”

“LETS just call it what it is,DRUG INDUCED SEX, BETWEEN TWO LONELY, FAMILY MEMBERS!!!
No sane father, screws his daughter!!! no daughter, screws her father!!! CONSENUALLY, PERIOD!!!!
This is sick!! If she wasn't on drugs, this would not have occured, without, it being called RAPE. Never trust a drug head, male or female, they will do whatever, they need to get WHATEVER THEY WANT!!! Period!!!!!! I have seen it , through out my own life.
I HAVE SEEN; Straight people have gay sex, for drugs and or money, and the same for GAY MEN AND WOMEN. I have seen strung out women, become prostitutes!!! So this does not surprise me.
What SURPRISES ME IS THE USE OF THE WORDS "CONSENUAL SEX!!!"
Thats what ercs me. Nobody seeks out close family members, unless they are sick in the head. Now I know for a fact that out side of the united States, Marrying a cousin, is not a tabu thing, all you have to do is look at the queens and kings of Europe and most of Asia. But for the most part it is CULTURAL thing.
When this father attacked her sexually, he was really attacking her MIND. Destroying HER CREDIBILITY, as a women!!!!! and for ten years!!! he pushed her deeper into Drug addiction. With him and the drugs, keeping her as a SLAVE, for his enjoyment. She believes that it was consenual, I say, he just made his bed, more comfortable, for himself.”

“It was disgraceful and completely rude to catcall a president. No one (not even repubs like McCain) recalls that level of disrespect. If we can not engage in civil and respectful disagreement, we have sunk to new lows. As a parent, I was appalled that a "leader" would engage in such immature antics. This is not "politics" as usual; this is complete and utter disrespect and has no place in MY government (we are, after all, a nation founded on a government BY the people and FOR the people and I'm one of those people as are you).”

As my family (three sons) gathered to watch President Obama's speech, I was absolutely aghast by the disrespect and utter lack of consideration revealed by Rep. Wilson's outburst tonight. Lead by example, Mr. Wilson, and display some manners. You should be ashamed, embarrassed, and, utterly apologetic for your complete and total lack of class. The only silver lining is that it gave me a wonderful opportunity to teach my boys about manners, civility and grace (as in, "don't ever let me catch you behaving like the representative from South Carolina just did."). That building you spoke in is MY government and your behavior tonight polluted its chambers.”

“Once again, my decision to vote for an articulate, intelligent, rational thinker was affirmed by O's education speech today. It was very validating to hear the President (and father) say the same things our family talks about at the dinner table.
I am frustrated only b/c those who most needed to hear the words of personal responsibility and hard work stayed at home or chose to ignore the speech. I find it tragic and heartbreaking and so discouraging that the views of right-wingnuts are placing a stranglehold on positive, affirming messages about hard work, goal-setting, and personal achievement. THAT is what will sink this great land ~ those who are not inquisitive, tolerant, or willing to see that an "education" is about listening and learning. Those who will continue to blindly follow the Pale-in, Glenn, Rush narrow-minded, entitled, ignorant mindset . . .”

He can talk talk talk (as he has been doing) and continue to think his words will influence the outcome. But his actions are the true test of his integrity and his actions reveal a selfish, narcissistic, sociopathic little boy who absolutely does not deserve a break. He should, as an adult, face the consequencences in his marriage and in his political role and as a father.”

But I think your blame is mis-placed. For all those "old folks in rest homes" ~ they are there b/c their family was not able/willing to have them at home. And for the idea that the old folks are in rest homes to "support the greed of the medical establishment" ~ actually, I'd argue that the medical establishment is only providing a service requested by those same families who either cannot or will not allow their loved ones to die with dignity. Either b/c of denial or mis-guided intentions, family members are often unable/unwilling to "let go". Which makes the family of this precious 13-year-old even more amazing . . . that they are able to honor and respect Hannah's wishes is a testament to their love of their daughter.”

Dean is not only an MD but a brilliant one who can understand more than just the clinical aspects of medicine ~ he understands psychology (hence the 50 state strategy) and technology (hence the emphasis on internet donations). He is a man of vision and intellectual fortitude. Not only as a debt of gratitude but also as a true effort to use brilliant minds in shaping our country's future, Dean deserves a position commensurate with his ability . . . HHS . . . Surgeon General . . . Science Guru . . . Tech Czar.
