Christmas Day Terror Suspect Charged With Attempting To Blow Up Northwest Flight 253

“I sometimes travel with a cane and a large kit of diabetic supplies. You would not believe how easily security people wave me through. It never ceases to appall me. It's like Oh okay White Woman Iowa drivers license with stupid medical issues, does not fit the profile. Sometimes they do not even run the cane or the kit of testing equipment through ANY machine. They were more careful in Europe, I noticed. The U.S. was the worse.”

“We already have this type of equipment it is used in most major US airports when you take an international flight. There is no full proof way to stop an act of terror. What anyone can figure out to solve an issue another can find a way around it.”

“Much tighter screenings, better machines, and like the bar exam, your only carry on is one carefully screened see through baggie. How tough is that? I'd rather do that than give up bathroom privileges!!! On our last recent flight Europe to U.S. the video options were so quality, who needs gadgets.”

“Are you aware that under this bill you cannot be denied buying coverage but you can be denied several types of claims for pre-existing conditions? That your premiums can be way way higher for being older or PEC?
' One of the things I would like fixed is the date when the insurance companies can't deny you for pre-existing conditions and the lifetime cap is gone.'”

“'It forces millions of people to buy very expensive insurance that they cannot afford to get actual health care, so that Democrats can proudly say millions more people are “covered.” Private health insurance companies are what have ruined our current system and are dramatically less efficient than public insurance programs, yet Democrats will use them almost exclusively. It is a massive reward for a history of terrible performance. Instead of reining in the insurance companies, it only enriches, empowers, and entrenches them further.' by j walker”

“'This program is not even a good foundation on which to build later reform. It will be a wasteful, expensive, and probably unpopular program for only a small subset of lower income Americans. That is a recipe for making it a target for cuts by conservatives, not expansion by progressives. This bill could easily discredit the move for true universal health care by being such a poorly designed failure.' by j walker”

“Bingo. More and more people will be pushed down into the small subset of lower income Americans if this bill goes through. My supplemental to Medicare is going up over $1,000 next year for the same benefits and to keep the same doctors I have now. I am now re-evaluating my budget to cover all our taxes and mandated insurance. The most stable countries are those with the broadest range of people who consider themselves middle class, but our middle class is shrinking and shrinking.”
jmpurser replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 16:13:41
“We will have to reverse this before we start on real reform. This "reform" bill uses tax dollars to subsidize the problems while it enshrines the power of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries into law.”

“'Today’s vote in the Senate to pass their health care reform bill was a big win for many people. It was a big win for the drug companies, the biologics industry, the hospital companies, and the for-profit health insurance corporations. They will all get billions of government dollars piled on to their ledgers, and and millions of Americans now forced to buy their products. The vote was also a huge win for the lobbyists who just saw their profits jump thanks to this great opportunity to show their clients just how powerful their hold on Washington really is.'

“'This bill will put roughly 15 million more people on Medicaid/CHIP, but mainly because the private insurance companies did not even want to cover these poor people.
There is a poorly designed tax that will cause many people’s insurance to get worse, a rollback of women’s reproductive rights, and a mandate forcing people to buy low quality, expensive insurance for unregulated private insurance companies. This bill will make the enemies of reform even stronger for the next fight.'

“Jason! I really agreed with you until you forgot to explain how and why those 30 million will NOT be insured. At the very least - we can agree to disagree - explain WHO those 30 million are under the current Senate bill and why many cannot even afford what it will cost them to "buy in" - PLEASE~~~~~”
Kache replied on Dec 23, 2009 at 16:48:13
“Jason would have us believe that those 23 million are all too poor to buy in. But, the bill provides subsidies for those too poor to buy in. So who are they? Are the the 30 million whom already CAN afford insurance but elect to pay off mortgages and college loans instead while they are still young and healthy enough to gamble?”
