U.S. Signals Iraq's Maliki Should Go: WSJ

Commented Jun 18, 2014 at 23:49:43 in Politics

“So now we have no more use of al-Maliki. He can forget about the US giving him much support. You don't think Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the other middle eastern supporters of ISIS are doing this without a wink and a nod from US. We are not about to abandon the largest embassy ever built. We are not about to abandon the oil fields.( Notice what ISIS took over first. Before Baghdad.) We are not going to lose our access to what we fought over during Bush I and Bush II. It appears now that what we want is three states, returning to the old provinces of the Ottoman Empire. The Brits imposed this one boundary state called Iraq after WWI, installed a puppet monarch and defended it with a military force that at one point approached 250,000 troops. Oh well. Without a dictator or a sufficiently large occupying force the country simply returns to its old ethnic boundaries. Perhaps, we have decided that is the only way we keep what we came for. And after this new adventure topples al-Maliki there is still that sticky question of what do you do with these militants with a new name ISIS which we armed and sent to do our dirty work. Wasn't that why we created Al Qaeda to do our dirty work in Afghanistan? We need to study the law of unintended consequences more carefully. Read my lips: No More Blowback.”

U.S. Signals Iraq's Maliki Should Go: WSJ

“Yes. Returning to the old provinces of the Ottoman Empire pre WWI. Once again Great Britain's drawing of arbitrary political boundaries has proven disastrous. I agree Big Oil should pay for its own adventures. Probably someday in the future the cover of state actors will be removed and we will simply have corporate wars.”

“The key word is "nobody". This clip is so painful. This rhetoric so hollow. These claims so disingenuous that it makes me want to vomit. The average American citizen is the "nobody" here. No voice. No power. No ability to get their questions answered, their issues addressed, the needs met. If you live and work on the hill your dancing to the tune of the monied interests that pay to get you there, either as an elected official dialing for campaign dollars, or your a lobbyist turned regulator overseeing the very industries that used to pay your hefty salary.”

NSA Releases Edward Snowden Email To Push Back At Whistleblower Claim

“Yes he stole a whole lot of classified documents which reveal that a agency of our own government is spying on every one of us, without probable cause. The head of this agency lied outright to the oversight committee of congress. In ordinary times this perjury would be judged contempt of congress and would have meant his removal. But no such thing occurred. NSA lied to the special court that issues warrants. They even continued after they were ordered not to. In short they are in contempt of the constitution that protects our freedom of speech. I don't understand your reference to FOX, a totally unreliable source of news and a completely reliable source of the right wing party line.
In the case of Manning, any time someone being tried for treason does not get to speak publicly and appeal to the citizenry at large it is an unfair trial. Chelsea Manning exposed direct murder of innocent civilians by drone attack. Are you not concerned as an American citizen? Do you not feel any remorse? Do you not realize that soldiers acting in such a cavalier and criminal way on our behalf represent you and me. We, yes you and I, are responsible for fielding these cowboys who get off on blowing people away by remote control. Both of these exposures are completely patriotic, in the strictest sense of the word. They are upholding the essence our constitution---against those who would lie and keep secrets from We the People.”

Former Counterterrorism Czar Richard Clarke: Bush, Cheney Committed War Crimes

Commented May 30, 2014 at 13:04:52 in Politics

“Let's be clear. Whatever Clark's position was--- Bush and Cheney lied us into a war in Iraq. There were no weapons of mass destruction. Either Colin Powell was a dupe or a coconspirator. Bush and Cheney actively sought legal cover for torture, an international war crime. Their motive was to get rid of Saddam Hussein, who had threatened the primacy of the US petro dollar by making direct deals for oil without passing it through the US dollar currency exchange, which has for decades allowed us to print money, borrow without limit with no economic consequences.

Every country with a conscience should declare them war criminals. They belong in the dock at the Hague.”

“This is the methodical work of someone who considered all the alternatives and did all he could to expose the NSA's spying upon every American citizen. It has yet to be proven that this giant data collection does anything at all to stop terrorists and does everything to undermine American freedom and privacy of personal communications. In light of how the government had treated John Kiriakou, Chelsea Manning and others, I don't blame Snowden for believing he had prayers of getting a fair trial and an open hearing were he would be judged by a jury of his peers.”

Snowden. It's either that or admit that they have acted against the rights of privacy of all American citizens.”

“So we are supposed take the word, because I doubt that anyone except another economist/ bean counter has actually drilled down the numbers, checked the sources, and verified that what these two writers for the FT allege is true. Whether or not there are discrepancies in the figures is only germane if it totally discredits the thesis, which I don't get from this article. The FT's readership for the most part has a vested interest in the current business model. The rest of society has a vested interest in seeing a more equitable access to capital, a healthier wage structure, a dollar that is not deteriorating in its purchasing power, and a manufacturing base that supports a healthy economy. If you were the editor of the Financial Times your mandate would be to assign a couple of financial reporters to pick Piketty;s book apart. They fulfilled their assignment.”

peacekitten on May 25, 2014 at 05:46:24

“no, we aren't supposed to take their word.    as i said, the fact remains that empirically, piketty's thesis is sound.   all one has to do is look around to see that.   when you have so much wealth concentrated in the hands of the six people at the head of the walton family that it is greater than the bottom 190 million americans put together, which is more than half the population, there is something seriously, seriously wrong that is destructive and unsustainable.   if it's not remedied and soon, the whole system is going to collapse, and then all they will have is a bigger pile of worthless paper than everyone else.  i think their assignment went deeper in that they were supposed to change the narrative away from grotesque inequality and try to make everyone think that what they can see for themselves doesn't mean what it means, not just to tear piketty's book apart.   even if they manage to discredit piketty, which i don't think they will, people can see for themselves that what he was getting at is true.   they might win the battle, but they've lost the war and simply discrediting piketty isn't going to change that.”

“Of course the FT has problems with Piketty's theory and will do everything it can to discredit a thesis, which undermines the business model of the very readership they cater to. It is undeniable that there are inequities in the current system that rival the Guilded Age, that created the financial crisis in the US that opened the door to the creation of the Federal Reserve system. And need I point out that in the 100 years of this semi-private banking system the US dollar, the integrity of which it was their mandate to maintain, has depreciated by more than 90%. Read the book and decide for your self.”

This global shift of power, which we created by our blatant foreign policy over reach, has driven China and Russia to make an unprecedented alliance. These two giant countries which have huge common boarders have been wary of one another for years. Now Putin has out pivoted Obama and we are on our way to a new global currency system, one that will leave the dollar much weaker and our country no longer able to impose our will with impunity. It has only been a hundred years since the banking cartel sold government on the need for a Federal Reserve system. It's days are numbered too.”

“Once again the Justice Department has proved itself to be nothing more than the handmaiden of corporate finance. What is Credit Suisse guilty of, enabling a handful of uber wealthy Americans to evade US taxes. Oh big surprise! And now the usual scenario plays out, a couple of low level employees take the rap. The bank pays a fine it can well afford, and its back to business as usual. We have no real prosecution of senior executives, who are supposed to be responsible for bank operations. We have seen no major criminal prosecutions of mortgage fraud, no investigation of banks front running their clients and in some cases knowingly selling them financial instruments doomed to fail, then betting against the performance of their own products. The largest banks are most guilty and yet have made themselves so large, so interconnected, so much a part of the government bureaucracy that are untouchable.”

“Ding ding ding ding...except they are not so large, so interconnected, so much a part of the government bureaucracy that are untouchable. They run the show, domestically and internationally and have done so for hundreds of years (Rothschilds and such). It's gonna sound crazy but no nation is truly sovereign. We are all beholden to the banks (federal reserve) that we allow to print our money and sell it to us with interest. Lincoln turned his back on the international bankers and started printing greenbacks. Dispense with Lincoln. Kennedy, weeks before his assassination, signed an executive order abolishing the federal reserve. Dispense with Kennedy.(One of Johnson's first acts was to nullify this EO) Saddam, in 1999, changed from trading oil on the dollar to the euro. Dispense with Saddam. You don't mess with the international banking cabal because they mess back...with intent. Here's an excellent article citing the real reason we went to war with Iraq...allthough we did bring freedom from life to many hundreds of thousands of their men, women and children. http://www.globalpolicy.org/component/content/article/173/30447.html
