“I think something like this would be looked upon as a novelty by the Iranian youth, and as a grave threat by the previous generation / leadership. We all know what sexual liberation did to the USA in the 1960s -- now, imagine a Summer of Love in Teheran!

Throw in a bit of weed, and we'll have regional peace in half an hour.”

“Well Cologne, I will certainly agree that the American people are often times too judgemental towards foreign cultures, but I think in this case Western tolerance towards alternative sexual preferences is the superior "value system". Sometimes, our values actually are better than other peoples' values, and there's no reason to be ashamed in saying so.”

“People having sex with other people who they aren't married to? CONSENSUALLY?! How terrifying!

California really can be a wonderful place sometimes... even if it isn't my style.”

'People having sex with other people who they atren't married to?
CONSENSUALLY? How terrifying!'

Never thought I would find myself laughing so hard at one of your posts. My sides are aching!

I agree. It is terrifying, almost as terrifying as a nuclear armed Iran.
Just joking.

An excerpt from one of the interviews which is over the top. How would
this couple be receive in present day Iran?

"They may look like any other married couple, but they are far from it! Kamala lets her husband Michael sleep with as many women as he likes.

"This is my man and I love him. I love him so much, I want to share him," she tells INSIDE EDITION.

In turn, Kamala sleeps with as many men as she wants to. She says, "Because I have multiple lovers, I have more love and energy to share with Michael."

Kamala openly has other men over to the couple's home in San Diego, California. During INSIDE EDITION's interview with the couple, Kamala even kisses her newest lover Steven, before snuggling up to her husband.

Kamala's husband is so comfortable with his wife's lovers, he even lets them baby-sit the couple's 15-month-old son."”

“Cologne,

People in this story were thrown in jail based solely on their sexual preferences. I think that is enough for any of us to be disgusted with the situation. It has nothing to do with cultural misunderstandings and everything to do with religious fundamentalism. Compared to Iran, and many other countries in the world, the United States is an excellent role model -- especially when it comes to the rights of minority groups or people considered socially "deviant" (in this case, swingers).”

CologneCitizen replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 02:22:12

“bermanator,

I know what you mean and agree this one is not about cultural misunderstandings. I was referring more to the point of these stories about what is "right" in our "western value system". IMO there is often an evalutation of our way being superior. America tends to project its self image on the rest of the world and I think this is wrong.”

Try again. Maybe you should find somebody other than the PCHR for your "statistics".”

And actually, his post had nothing to do with Israel's policies and was actually about global antisemitism. He made a legitimate point about how American Jews have had trouble coping with the situation of other Jews around the world. Nobody said those American Jews were any less Jewish than Israeli Jews -- that would be an absurd claim. Try reading before you type a response.”

“Ray, these are the first good points you've made in a while.

Like I've said before, I am not convinced of the necessity of a strike against Iran and I truly hope it doesn't happen.”

bermanator replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 23:33:17

“Ray, if you truly wish for dialogue, you need to begin taking Jewish sensitivities into account. When I call you out for being anti-semitic, it isn't because I'm trying to "stifle the debate" or "deflect criticism", it's because your comments really are offensive to me and the vast majority of my peers.

I suggest you read this article on Zionism and anti-Semitism and at least attempt to reframe your arguments in a manner where Zionists can respond to them without going on the defensive.

bermanator replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 23:20:29

“No, but a real Jew would extend at least a modicum of respect and concern for the well-being of his fellow Jews in Israel, rather than consistently demonizing them as murderers and fascists, delegitimizing our history, and entirely ignoring the Israeli narrative.

CG has no "good will" or "assistance" to offer. A real Jew would.

StJames replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 20:11:01

One need not be Jewish or Muslim to shed real tears for the lives lost in this miserable conflict. Or to mourn the deaths of fellow humans. This conflict will not end until Israelis, Palestinians and their assorted supporters recognize the humanity of all parties involved.”

“I feel terrible for the children of Palestine, as many of them are nothing but cannon fodder for their 'leadership', they have all grown up within a culture of death, and of course, children make mistakes. They have also grown up under the occupation, which of course, can't be easy. But that doesn't mean they should be allowed to get away with attempted murder.”

Sentientbeing09 replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 16:54:28

“Ok.
Ill it answer for you seeing as you insist avoiding the question. Throwing stones at tanks isnt attempted murder.

In 2008 the most common charge faced by Palestinian children detained by Israeli forces in Occupied Palestinian Territory was for throwing stones. In 26.7% of cases handled by DCI-Palestine during the year, the charge was stone throwing.
[NOT ATTEMPTED MURDER]

It is not uncommon during the arrest process for Israeli soldiers to strike Palestinian children with their weapons whilst laughing and humiliating them.
When clashes occur near the Wall between stone throwing Palestinian children and Israeli soldiers, the soldiers tend to respond by arresting any child in the vicinity, regardless of whether that child was actually involved in any unrest or not.

The threshold of evidence required before an Israeli soldier arrests a child on suspicion of throwing stones is so low in some cases as to suggest the existence of a policy of collective punishment, rather than any serious attempt to identify those actually involved in any unrest.

All forms of collective punishment are prohibited by the Fourth Geneva Convention.
In what is usually a terrifying experience, many Palestinian children are arrested by Israeli forces from their beds in the early hours before dawn by heavily armed soldiers.

These children are rarely told why they are being arrested, where they are being taken, and in some cases are not even permitted to say goodbye to their parents
